Edmonton's loss was Britain's gain. No 189 will run again under the wires in April 2010 with the world's largest collection of trolleybuses at Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum in England.

Chicago retired its fleet of electric trolley busses in 1973. My favorites were the Marmon Herrington busses made in 1951. The were fun to ride in, and had FAST accelerations.

I use to ride the electric bus up and down Jasper Ave. in the 80's! I loved the hum or the growl of the diesel buses.

I was a regular on the 120 trolley as my apartment was on 92 and Jasper, there was that one driver who was pretty cool , forget his name but I can still see his face, RIP to the trolley system. 🙂

I used to ride the trolleys in Edmonton. I recall how the connectors to the power would disconnect and the driver would have to get out and re-connect.

I like trolley buses. They are fun to ride, and I like the sound they make. Toronto got rid of their fleet back in 1993. Hamilton was the first, I think, in 1989. I don`t know why so many cities are retiring them. I think Vancouver is the only one left, and San Francisco in the U.S.

Calgary got rid of the trolley buses in 1975 and brought out the light rail transit 6 years later and keep expanding it. Seattle has some trolley buses running around their city.

I remember when the cables on these buses got unhooked from the overhead wires. The driver would have to get out and re attach the wires. These buses were warm in the winter, especially in the back, next to the metal parts that covered the rear wheels.

I loved riding the trolleys - looked forward to taking the 5 or the 1 and enjoying the quiet "whoosh" and fast (for a bus) acceleration. I know the wires are ugly and the arms coming off were a pain for the driver and other traffic. Makes me wonder if there isn't a better way to do electric buses now - wireless power/NFC or something?

In an era when the new wave of governing leans towards hybrid power with batteries the future was already here with these electric buses or trolleys as you call them. The only thing unsightly are the wires above, but at an environmental level they are great, of course the people who use them can say otherwise. Here in Australia the government would rather tax everybody for c02 rather than have a brilliant system like this. Cherish this system as it's brilliant.

Why do cities get rid of trolleybuses? They are the answer to the environmental problems of today with zero emissions and quiet operations.

red troleybus could not push but do another!
@andrewwoolner98458 ай бұрын
One of its poles got stuck under a breaker and lost power. Simple solution would have just moved the pole to another “live” wire but they chose to push it.
