Really opened my mind more to FM synthesis. I always thought it was just for metallic percussive sounds and trippy basses, but it can clearly do a lot more! I also understand how to program an FM synth now too lol

You missed a very significant FM synth that I had to recommend to everyone, the company is Plogue, and the instrument is Chip Synth OPS7. It is hands down the most accurate software recreation of the DX7. They went through the entire synth including the output converters. And it's inexpensive 😊

Whilst I understand FM basics I have no idea what this hill analogy was about lol - good detailed intro to FM though. I could follow and I use hardware FM synths. + he pronounced TIMBRE correctly :)

Glad you enjoyed it! Our course Breakthrough Sound Design covers FM synthesis which we'll be opening for enrolment at some point again this year. Keep an eye out :)

You got any more FM synth tutorials? Some patch recipes would be enormously helpful.

I'm gonna have to watch this a few times to fully absorb it. As for other synths, Phase Plant can do ANYTHING.

i would suggest trying a synclavier emulation, as a reghen owner i'de love to see you compare algorythme type of fm, and synclavier type. i'm learning the unit but i;'m not shure i can cvross mod partials to create more complex fm "algorythmes", i'de love to see someone confortable with fm talk about this. it seems to me that a yam fm synth doesnt have a larger panel of sounds and textures than a syclavier engine... thoughts ?

I love FM8. Luckily, unlike Absynth IV it still runs on Windows 10 without glitches.

The only issue I have with this video is that it is almost ignoring hardware options. I have a DX9, and I think you could have given more attention to the algorithm used in your examples. Not all of us use soft synths... Which is ok. :)
