Great tut, but the sound is very easy to know its Sine waves + FM Synthesis pluck w/ low pass filter....it would be interesting to see you apply this method to a much more complex bass sound that you don't immediately know upon hearing how exactly it's made....

Perhaps we can do an advanced/bass design one some other time :)

Good to see you join the EDMProd team John. Great tutorial - useful to break the process into these steps.. I think this will be useful for preset recreation as well, helpful to learn the ins and ours of all those synths I have and which I still only know 20% of the features!

Thanks. Really enjoyed your teaching style and useful tips on how to analyze something. Checklist style method really helps. And resampling to audio to compare wave forms is a slick move.

No criticism from me at all in fact, many thanks for showing how to find the tempo of an imported track. I always found that bit tricky

You're like the MAD Mix Professor. Skillex probably used a bought sample and just tweaked it. This video is misleading people to waste their time.

No. Skrillex has been making these sounds with Native Instruments FM8. He's quite good at it. In terms of synthesis though this is not such a difficult sound using only one carrier and one modulator. So there...

i'd bet skrillex used operator or massive for this. i think this video teaches people how to improve their skills. it teaches people how to think straight. it's simple, but effective. :)

Nope, you have a shortcut mentallity. There is literally video evidence of skrillex sound designing. There weren't any dubstep packs back when he started the brostep movement. That was all from scratch in massive and FM8.

We're all for using samples in your music btw. But there is a 99% chance that Skrillex designed this sound himself.
