There are some great tips there Will, but then every video you upload is just so enlightening. For me the drum tuning tip is the one I am most fascinated about. I can spend ages tuning a kick to a bass (especially when remixing). I wondered if there was a way to automate the tuning of the kick so it recognises the bass either within the drum rack or by way of an m4l device? I realise it must be impossible (ish) with audio though.? ALSO, with the tips you've shown regarding drum rack, it's making me wonder if I wasted money on AD2 (especially when using a launchpad)

separate question - I have been using OBS and Reaper VST plug in - but having trouble with a particular track that has a heavy Saw Serum effect (drum and bass) any tips on how to make it work? or is it simply buggy and don't bother? what do you use to screen record (for PC with Ableton?) cheers

Some gold in this video once again! I use Live Lite, so drum racks are essential to get more “tracks” into a session, with all the benefits of grouping and having more send/return auxiliaries available. It’s time consuming, but it’s my “ghetto style” and I make it work.

Just learnt that you can group up chains within a drum rack I used to load multiple drum racks with each being a specific type of drum hit (kicks, snares, hihats...) to be processed together Now I can finally keep only one drum rack for each track Very informative video as always. Excellent tips thank you! I loved the macro sample chooser tip best but also drum rack send/return. It's very exciting to learn these techniques. If you can, please consider mentioning CPU impact or lack thereof for each tip in future! I'm trying to learn how to best make a very flexible improvisation live set so I want to be able to change a lot of instruments and sounds with hands on controls during the set. I'd love to maximise usable creative options without overloading Ableton.

Great summary video again. I love your summary videos Will. its like watching 20 videos in one video. great job . Its good to know what drum rack is capable of eventhoug I wouldnt use many of these tricks. I dont like over complicating it by assigning multiple samples on one midi signal or randomizing or chocking inside in the drum rack. just my personal choice. But I see how powerful drumrack is you can build the entire track inside of drum rack 😁 But macro sample selector is the most useful tip here actually. Thank you for uploading. you are a great teacher Will. I appreciate you.

Back when I used Ableton 9 and 10, I remember I could simply drag one of those drum kits adg files into the session view, hit play, and it would play that adg pattern exactly as it was made, and I could see the pattern in the drum rack. I also remember I could change the sounds of those patterns in the drum rack, add or remove sounds from it and the pattern would play exactly what I did. Now I can't seem to do this with Ableton 12. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Dang I didn't realize you can group cells in a Drum Rack. I had recently been working on a track and thought, "damn, it would be great to be able to process these two sounds, but not the others. Oh well..." Turns out I can haha.

How could you replace a wave sound with another one from drumrack ? For example, I have a wave performance of a drummer that only have kick on its track (and snare on another and so on). Instead of translating in midi one by one kick drum, is there a way to kind of "side chain" the input wave signal to trigger a kick in the drumrack ?

The only thing I can think is to have it set to "Beats" and not "Textures" or "re-pitch" that;s the only thing I could think of that would do that pitch change. Not sure if it helps with MIDI but I gave it my best shot
