There are in fact three different minor scales. The minor scale in the video is natural minor. By sharpening the 6th it becomes harmonic minor, and by sharpening both the 6th and the 7th it becomes melodic minor. It seems that these alternative minor scales are in play from 13:55 onwards.
@EDMTips
@EDMTips Жыл бұрын
True, but technically the harmonic minor scale only sharpens the 6th on the way up, not on the way down.

Mario pui the vision uses the borrowed chords from parralle technique for the main melody and chords. The first chord and part of the melody borrows the F sharp which is what gives the tune its vibe (Track is A minor) Just thought it worth a mention as some of these tips work wonders in classic trance.

Excuse me sir, if you are in A minor, 12:20 the notes F B C is a Fsus#4 (Fsus+) chord. 12:40 notes F G C is Fsus2 (or an inverted Csus4) Asus4 chord doesn’t have the note C. There are no major or minor suspended chords since they are lacking the third, that’s why are called suspended 4 or 2.
@EDMTips
@EDMTips Жыл бұрын
That's correct, but I didn't say the chord at 12:20 was Asus4 - just that I was changing that chord (which is F Major - F A C) to a Sus4 chord. Having just listen back though at 12:47, I understand the confusion: I said "Change it back to a Sus 4 chord (as in, from a non-sus chord to a sus chord), which sounds like I'm saying "ASus4"! My apologies for the lack of clarity

Hi Will your video's are great I love the practical approach to music theory. The scale function in Ableton makes it more playful and discoverable way to play with chords. Although the parallel key of A minor is C major like in the circle of 5ths. But thats a small detail because the borrowing from the a major scale works! :) Thanks for all the tips and tricks!
