People who only consider Toyota brand vehicles either have wild imaginations about how much time people in 'lesser' brands spend at the mechanic's shop or were all very unlucky and owned some truly horrrid Malaise era junkers. Some Toyota vehicles have been class leading or class competitive but some at times have not been. For all the supposed enthusiasm for owning the same care for 15 years because it's so reliable, there have been a LOT of Toyotas that I wouldn't want to own for 5 years let alone 15. These include the Toyota Corolla back when it had a 3 or 4 speed automatic transmission years after other cars moved onto 6 speeds. Or the early-mid 2000's Tacoma's which were reliable but pretty horrid to drive. Personally I've owned 4 GM cars, 1 Volkswagen, 2 Nissans, 1 Ford, and 1 Subaru and none of them were so unreliable that I would even consider the reliability to be a big factor in choosing to buy or not buy the same brand again. Most of them were with me past 100K miles and none were ditched early because of mechanical issues. Would all of them have been effortless to keep running to 300K miles? Probably not, but honestly, when I get into my mother's 260K mile old Camry I mostly feel like I'm in an old car with outdated crash standards, a floaty floppy ride and a stereo with a CD player that hasn't worked in 150K miles. It hardly makes me green with envy.

If MPG's are your ONLY concern, then certainly you should buy the RAV4. But all of these rigs will be pretty reliable. And not everyone wants that noisy, cheapo Toyota interior or the CVT. The Kia and the Honda have a physical connection to the rear wheels, which will make them superior in snowy weather or light off roading. That's why their MPG's aren't as good. If I'm driving a car for 10 years or so, I want to enjoy the interior and features as well. The Toyota just doesn't cut it in that regard. Still, to each his own. Lots of good in all these cars.

Since they went to the same fuel pump, there's a far better metric: the _percentage_ increase/decrease in fuel cost. Remember, the higher fuel prices rise, the more $$$ that % will represent to your bank account. E.g. If fuel goes from $1/gal to $10/gal, you're paying +$9/gal. But if fuel goes from $10/gal to $100/gal, you're paying _+$90/gal,_ even though the percentage change is still +900% in *both* cases! Kia's are well made and reliability of these cars are not going to be an issue until 12, 15 years into ownership and even then Kia is up there in reliability. When I'm buying a hybrid my main priority is to get the best possible fuel economy and when I buy a car in general my main priority is reliability/longevity (I keep my cars for 10+ years), so my top pick is the RAV4 followed by the CR-V. On the other hand, I wouldn't buy this or any other Kia/Hyundai product since they don't last nearly as long as either Toyota or Honda and they have experienced many quality issues, some of which pretty serious, over the past few years.

I'm still considering the outdated Toyota because of reliability. These are daily shuttles and I'm tired of taking my Subaru to the shop consistently. $11k in maintenance over 140k miles is just too much. My 2006 Honda Odyssey lasted only 100k miles before needing more work than it was worth.

Toyota rav 4 For me is 5 ⭐️. Driving for hybrid in 8 years. Toyota now is in the highest peak of improving hybrid cars. Normal ICE brand will offer car 2-3 years warranty. Toyota will offer more than 5 to 10 years warranty. I don’t mine about advance spec info entertainment ,power and performance or luxurious interior exterior design. (Destructible in daily normal descent people driving). The importance are the driving factors. Quality Reliability Efficiency Availability ( parts) Affordability ( parts) Maintenance cost( less and cheaper) Safety ( high tech advance quality) Handling ( smooth and relaxation ) Driving( long distances and city drive) Long warranty Range contentment comfort safety smooth and relaxing to drive. As of my experiences with hybrid cars. No anxiety of range and charging coz mine is a full new hybrid.😁

The rav4 hybrid does have 1 thing the other 2 doesn’t: a spare tire (Jokes aside if I wasn’t looking for a more power vehicle I’d go for the CRV despite wanting a spare tire because paranoia, the CRV is a pretty good deal for what you’re getting)
@johnd96052 ай бұрын
Remember that your spare tire will take up a couple cubic feet of space in your cargo space. You DO travel on longer trips with a spare, yes? The Rav4 has one under the floor as expected. For the Honda, you'll have to toss one in the back in your cargo area, as the battery is in the "spare tire well" (aftermarket). Not sure about the Kia.

Why does Kia insist on the wide console which reduces legroom and comfort. See drivers leg at 3:26 - it’s vertical. Does anyone sit like that? Comments please. I have an IONIQ5 which defines comfort with no foreword console. But, I’d love a Sportage as a winter driver - EXCEPT FOR THE USELESS CONSOLE.

Prefer the Honda CR-V looks wise but the RAV4 isn't too shabby either. I think the Toyota still puts on a good showing when compared with these much newer competitors. The fact that the RAV4 still has the best MPGs makes it a winner in my book. On the other hand, the Kia is too criminally ugly for me to consider.

I want a Vehicle that is not overtly complicated. The More bells and whistles a Automobile has, the more there is too go wrong. Is there a option with out a Infotainment Touch Screen? Also, I want an option that has a Key with a Keyed Ignition. The Absence of these Physical Security features and only having Electronic Locks and Ignition is not good. The Best Security is a multi leveled system. In addition, I want a Manual Parking Break and things like a Oil Dip Stick are things I want in a New Vehicle. I want Regular Buttons, Switches, and Knobs for the controls in my Vehicle. Being forced to Navigate through Menus in the Screen is distracting and dangerous. I have been looking for this. I have not found it. I have found my self being less and less interested in New Automobiles. If this is the Case I will not be purchasing a New Automobile at all. The Laws need to change. All the Saftey features in the World will not solve the problem of Not paying attention to what is going on around the vehicle. Better Driver training is what is needed.

11:58 Not correct. Wireless Android Auto is available in many Kias. However, in their infinite wisdom, Kia locked top trim models out due to a contractual obligation to the third party company that created their proprietary navigation software. Did Edmunds check spare tires and towing capacity? I know that the CRV hybrids only tow 1000 lbs, and have no spare tire of any kind. Instead they give you a repair kit, which for anything other than a small puncture is useless. Better hope you have cell phone reception if you gash a sidewall and have to call for a tow. And, if it's after hours at the tire shop, you're dead in the water until the shop opens. Toyota has a spare and tows 1750. Have not checked on the Kia. I'd be interested in the CRV if it had more towing and a spare. Toyota gets expensive fast. Hard to find many on the lot that don't have the option packages stacked on, so the XLE Premiums in my region are running in the 42-43K range MSRP. In Consumer Reports, the Kia isn't bad, although slightly below the Toyota and Honda. As noted, the RAV4 is due for a revised model soon.

I don't plan on towing with my Sportage, but it does have a compact spare tire, which is one of the reasons why I bought it. Ironically, the Tucson does not.
@scottanthony34266 ай бұрын
@@Briguy1027 Thanks. Good to know that detail. Who would have thought that? I thought they were basically twins. I don't plan on towing anything big - just occasional short trips with my utility trailer to haul yard debris. My trailer isn't light, so I don't load too heavy for my current ride, which has 1500 lbs towing. The gas only powered CRV will tow 1500 lbs and does have a spare tire. I guess they had to eat the spare tirewell space with hybrid hardware. In general SUV's are morphing towards tall AWD sedans vs the "all weather capable" UTILITY vehicles they started out as. Can't even get fog lights on some of them now. Part of the motivation for buying an SUV vs sedan is the "all-weather capability", and in my book, that ought to include fog lights.
