Problem with the AMG GT (and SL) is that V8 made 603 hp like 8 years ago in the S63, and today it makes 469 hp or 577 hp depending on GT55 or GT63.

I would say the weight distribution plays a huge factor too. Rear bias for the vetted helped with braking and acceleration. The merc did do better on cornering Gs (surprisely). I assume the near 50/50 weight distribution helped with that.

Turbo s or eray. Those are great daily drivers. Im a huge corvette fan. And we tend to give credit where its due. Eray is better in Its ways but the Turbo S is quicker Than the Eray and faster. Oh well 😂

The tires definitely would have helped, but the Z07 aero actually slows it down in this type of race, the non Z07 version has less air resistance in the quarter mile. On a track however the Z07 package really shines.

@ it slows down it’s top speed but would help with slowing the car down and getting it turned back around while allowing the driver to stay on throttle longer and sooner. They would not be getting anywhere close to max downforce at 186mph. It may not make much of a difference unless you have long high speed sweepers but the stickier tire, lighter wheels, and brakes certainly would.

Despite the disadvantage it has on paper, the GT 63 performed quite well here, particularly with that shockingly high grip in the turn. 1.39 in the corner, edging ahead of the track-focused Z06 is seriously impressive. I'm willing to bet the impressive handling is largely due to those brand-new pilot sport S 5 tires, which are a generational improvement over the PS4S run flats on the Z06, which are already great tires in their own right. Equally as impressive as the GT 63's handling, however, is the Z06's launching. The GT 63 is a great launching car, however the Z06 was only a 10th slower to 60, even with worse tires and rear wheel drive. 10.9 on an unprepped surface with rear wheel drive is really impressive, especially without the Cup 2Rs.

I think it comes down to what type of car you want if you're cross shopping these two. I'd take the GT63 for a "daily" and the Z06 for a "fun" car. They both have some crossover there, but if I'm taking the keys for a fun day out driving I'm taking the Z06 because that noise is glorious. That's exactly why I want a 911 GT3 touring, for that 9k RPM screaming sound, but something a little understated (I don't like lots of attention) and that can pretty much do anything.

It would be an interesting test to see, but the thing about RWD Mercedes if they don’t watch very well… I had three different AMG’s, and not one of those things could launch worth a crap. From a roll they were great, but off the line anybody with decent launch control was going to embarrass it. Basically it’s too much torque for two little tire and they do not generally come from the factory with an LSD on the back.

The lack of an LSD on those cars was definitely a big frustration for me… Something that comes standard on a mustang GT should come standard on an AMG, ugh… but man from a roll those things don’t fool around. They were fun cars, was actually eyeballing the previous AMG GT when I decided to give the C8 a try. I think from a roll the previous gen GTR would do very well against the Z06, even the GTC would run it very close. Quite a bit more tail-happy on a circuit, though. I love them, just beautiful cars.

Race 1 vs. Race 2…. No mention of the incredible difference in launch between drivers. The driver that was asleep at go in the Z06(race 1)then somehow made up time going into the turn catching the Merc in race 2. Makes you wonder how much better this show would be with consistently good drivers. They both had unacceptable mistakes for the purpose of this show.

Same horsepower I would say if not even more for the Mercedes… I owned three AMG’s and they dramatically underrate their power, as with BMW and Porsche. This Mercedes weighs 600 pounds more than the Z06, no way it could physically hang that well with 100 less horsepower and 600 pounds more weight.
