I own a cx5 for 2 yrs now, no regrets only more love! The 2 others looks old now but the cx5 still shine. 7.1L/100km on the highway around 10 in the city for a 8.5L/100km combined. The heavy right foot is never easy on gas when you are having fun driving in those 3. Cargo space and gas mileage aren't always deal breakers. But looks and feel never gets old!

@Tsalinger5 жыл бұрын
I'll take a RAV 4 over all of them. Honda turbo and CVT have some known issues especially in a heavy platform. The Mazda is showing signs of tranny slippage and gear hunting its also too cramped. As time goes on the motors are becoming suspect because of their sky high compression. On the other hand a Rav SE can out handle both with ease. As for AWD hands down the Rav as its the only one that can go 50/50 front to back with its lock up and Toy dependability. Now comes the aftermarket support. You can lift a Rav 2.5 inches for 400 bucks without disturbing the handling. The list goes on. Toys are made to customize without braking the bank. I wouldn't buy a new Rav with the 8spd until they work out some issues but they still offer the bomb proof 6spd. I buy mechanical's first the rest is just fluff.

Love my '18 CR-V LX ! I purchased it 6 months ago for $23594 (pretax) near Cincinnati Ohio. Dealer gave me a great deal because no one wanted a black LX AWD and it had sat there for nearly 3 months. I am so happy I did not get the turbo due to the oil/gas mix problems going on with that engine. Great handling, I personally love the CVT, cavernous back seat, excellent storage for the size, and excellent gas mileage. Feels like the power is always right there. Seats are very comfortable. I just took a 117 mile round trip and got 42 mpg down and 38 mpg overall for the round trip! This was 90% highway with some rush hour crawling. No fancy semi autonomous gadgets on the LX and thats why I love it. Simplicity at its best. I am a 40 year old male with no kids and may not fit the stereotypical group for this car but I really do love it so far. I highly recommend and make sure you break it in as stated in the manual. First 600 miles no speeds over 70, no hard acceleration, no hard braking. My gas mileage improved tremendously doing it and the car just seemed to come together for lack of a better word.

I leased a 2017 CRV EXL in March of last year. Thus far it has been totally reliable, comfortable, reasonably quiet (a different tread pattern on the tires would help road noise), controls are intuitive and work well, acceleration from a stop light and in passing are good considering the small displacement of the engine, braking is excellent, the emergency braking, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control are excellent. I really like the car but I want to see if Honda will bring a hybrid crv to market before my lease expires. Overall fuel mileage is 28,7 with a high of 35 MPG at a steady 65 MPH on a trip over to Bend, Oregon. Most of my driving is in town it it still has acceptable fuel economy. I drove both the RAV4 and the CX5, along with the Ford Escape, Equinox, Forester, Volkswagen Tiguan and the Honda with all the room inside, comfort and fuel economy was the best bang for the buck.

My 2014 CX-5 gets terrific freeway mileage, as I often drive from San Diego to Riverside. I get 33-37 mpg on those drives, if there isn't much traffic out. AMAZING. This crossover is frisky and accelerates nicely - as the freeway entrances I have to use in Corona, Menifee and Oceanside (where I reside), are often short as heck. I feel like I have 5 car lengths to be up to freeway speed, and believe me, the CX-5 handles that! I got the 2.5L 4-cyl. engine after reading reviews on its get up and go, and am not sorry I did. It also can hold 4 15" tires in the cargo area with the seats up. So great fuel economy, fun to drive, and no problems in over two years of ownership (bought it used as a 2-year old, like I do most of my vehicles). Another reason I bought this SUV is the crash testing rating was Good on all counts, important with 7 grandkids I haul around at various times. All in all, I love the bright red, and only wish I had the roof racks on Scarlett.

I really enjoyed the presentation from three well versed experts. Unfortunately one not small detail was left out. CRV four doors open 90 degrees. I know. I'm on my second CRV. On a side note, I really enjoy the 2.4 liter naturally aspirated LX AWD model. My thoughts on the Honda CRV: More power, better handling, Higher gas mileage, Increased space, And even better build quality. Everything feels more substantial with this new refresh. I do like the looks and sporty handling of the Mazda though.
@skifree06 жыл бұрын
I don't really think build quality is that good on the crv's. Hondas in general have always had a panel gap problem and having bought a cx-5 that's still made in japan....my god the tooling is good, and it puts my civic to shame.
@Obie3276 жыл бұрын
skifree, Owning a few Honda's myself.. I can contest that build quality is fine. (except the questionable build quality of the 2012 Civic) Never had anything break or fall apart on any of my Honda's. I was given a used 89 Honda Accord LX with 204,000 miles and everything still worked. (no oil burning, trans shifted excellent, power switches/gauges perfect) Quality to me would be how long it lasts and durability. I also live 8 blocks from my Valley Honda dealership and they just take me in for service by simply driving into their maintenance drive through garage. Build quality is excellent and Service/Maintenance is exceptional. So having my 2017 CRV LX is like having my cake and eating it. P.S. My 2012 CRV LX AWD was almost flawless for the 5 years of ownership. (parking switch recall being only unscheduled visit) Not trying to be bias..., But I'm intimately informed that Honda has a few descent vehicles in their lineup. I've test drove most of the vehicles. One thing that I don't care for or like is all the tech packages, So I buy the base LX models. Enjoy your Mazda CX-5 and keep in touch if any problems arise. Thanks

Absolutely no problem with what you said, but that isn't build quality, that's reliability. And having owned a honda myself I have no issues with that. build quality in the automotive world refers to the craftsmanship related to it's construction. It's about panel gaps, seal placement, panel alignment (if the doors are crooked for example). dash creaks and rattles. The 2 are not realated, You can have excellent build quality with crappy reliability (take a BMW or a merc). And your honda (and mine) is an example of good reliability but not so good build quality. TLDR is your point is perfectly fine, just your wording gives the wrong meaning that may need to be clarified when others look at it with the other meaning.
@Obie3276 жыл бұрын
Skifree the build quality is fine on my CRV. Panel gaps/refinement or what you see is the view the individual discerning person . Build quality and reliability go hand in hand. My CRV is 1 year old tomorrow and no rattles or squeaks since bought new. I'll give you and example from a Russian video i saw. He had his SUV articulated in the air simulating if you were stuck in a ditch. When he tried to open the doors they were stuck or if open they wouldn't close (body twisted) This was a new cross over mind you. I give props to the engineers who build and designed my vehicle .
@skifree06 жыл бұрын
But by relating build quality with reliability you run into a situation that are excellently and reliably designed and poorly constructed. the CRV is a fine vechicle that is certainly more reliable than it's luxury german counterparts. But say that it has better build quality than a bmw or a merc or an audi, and people will just question what you are saying. Get up and close with a german car's construction and they are in a world of their own. That's the reasoning for splitting the 2 up. build quality is not how it is engineered/designed, its the execution of the design (whether it be reliable or unreliable) into the practical world. it is perfectly fine if you don't care about panel gaps and fit and finish. A LOT of people don't. But you can't say it has good build quality, as it leads people into thinking it does have better construction quality that it does.

Cx5 is classy looking & fun to drive. The Honda is boring through & through and ours has a very uncomfortable ride for back seat passengers. The Toyota does not make a statement but is dependable. I think I've settled on the Mazda.

Cx5 all day! 3 plated clutch automatic transmission, hemi dom pistons, ultra high compression, skyactive technology, better suspension ratios, Audi shared AWD system with WSS sensors, brighter LED headlights than Audi, list goes on! Holds better turns then Camaros

I purchased my new SUV a month ago and I have included all 3 SUV's in my test drive. The comments in the video pretty much aligned with my test driving experience. Each SUV has its own strength and weakness. I picked the CX5 over the others because of its power train (non-turbo and CVT for reliability concern), best in class interior, exterior, class leading NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) and outstanding driving dynamics (minimum body roll and steering is more connected to the road). Yes, it's not the most fuel efficiency (26 of CX5 vs 29 of CRV for combined mpg) and as roomy as the CRV , but not all SUV buyers need room for a family of 4 or 5. A lot of aging boomers buying SUV for the ease of getting in and out, and as a matter of fact they do make up the bulk of the car buyers nowadays. You cannot go wrong if you select any one out of the three for the right attributes. Yes, the 2019 RAV4 will definitely be vastly improved but I am still not sure about the exterior styling going by what has been released. I have to see it in person.

Don't get me wrong, I love cars that are sporty and can drive well around bends. However, as a family man logic has to come first and the CRV is easily the most family friendly. I am over six feet tall and had ACRES of leg head and shoulder room both in the front and back. The cargo space was also so generous. Looks do play a role as well obviously. The RAV is not good looking in my view leaving the Mazda and CRV. The boy racer says Mazda but the father and husband says CRV. Also I was very surprised to see that the CRV outperformed the Mazda in acceleration and braking. Great comprehensive comparison guys, thank you!

they haven't do the lateral G test. The CX5 is not for the acceleration but for the suspension set up to minimize body roll in traditional SUVs so it should have the best turning. But yea, that chassis from the CX5 is actually very very old. Even older than the Rava actually, it just been refined for since the first gen CX5.... they just keep updating the front looks and interior of the car like the mazda 6 which the chassis are not updated.... yes, it is an 8 years product now.... lol

Because i didnt need that big space like crv for every single day going to work or shopping etc. its stylish , luxury and comfort . Unless i got few kids, always going out for outdoor activity, really in need of huge space. Cx5 is better choice for me 😁 stylish and comfort for my daily basis. And still got lots of space to carry big item.

I just finished EXTENSIVE, multiple test drives of the 2021 CX-5 Carbon Turbo AWD and comparable and HIGHER priced New Tucson, Rav4, CR-V, Bronco Sport, Outback, Forester, & Tiguan. The CX-5 is what I bought and there wasn't even close to a second place enough to consider any of the others. At $33,335 it was a STEAL compared to the $38,000+ alternatives. About Me (if you relate to any of this, try the CX-5 Turbo): Ohio, 40, 8 year old kid, we do sports and adventures, weekend road trips, ball games, I like to drive, have had sports cars in past, value quality/fit & finish over lowest price possible, wanted a utilitarian vehicle for family stuff that didn't LOOK like a utilitarian vehicle for family stuff, high value for the money, I like tech but don't need the car to drive itself. I tried the Mecedes, Audi, Volvo & BMW equivalents to see if the jump in money was worth it.... NO. NO NO NO NO. The CX-5 Carbon Turbo was literally just as nice inside and out as those and wildly less money. It GLIDES under acceleration and has the same premium feel. LOVE IT! I have had BMW M3 & X5, a Corvette, a 3 series, & even Hyundai premium trims and this Mazda is WILDLY nice. Shocked every time I got in. Car is super quick and didn't at all feel like I was driving a fat, heavy vehicle. Handled like a sedan, brakes like a sedan, 100% and super super easy to get in and out of. Could not be more thrilled compared to the other options. WOW!

@normt54636 жыл бұрын
wasabi9111 the RAV4 is the most reliable here along with the redesigned Chevy Equinox at about 13 repairs per 100 according to Truedelta. Currently the CR-V since it's redesign in 2017 is the worse but they continue to charge top dollar
@tekz64356 жыл бұрын
Nah, shouldn't worry abt Toyota even in its first yr as it is pretty reliable with high resale value you can't go wrong! The exterior styling will be new but most of the integral parts and underpinnings will likely be the true, tried and tested reliable pieces that Toyota will use. Same as with most of their other models that's why they've been known to be a reliable brand coz of this strategy.
@Wasabi91116 жыл бұрын
Tek z that’s what I’m hoping. This will replace my mother in laws 2004 rav4. It’s been absolutely reliable and she refuses to replace it. But that car is like a tin can with no safety features. I finally convinced her to replace her car but don’t want to be at fault if her new rav4 is unreliable compared to her current rav4.
@EMichaelBall6 жыл бұрын
I'd actually get a used Hyundai or Kia. They're really reliable as of late, but still depreciate off their old reputation. If you use Carfax and KBB right, you can get a three-year-old Tucson or Sportage for about half the cost of a new RAV4.

Love the looks of the Mazda, but after doing some research I took it off the list for 2 reasons: 1) no hybrid version and owners are saying they aren't getting the mpg promised on the sticker, and 2) a lot of reports of issues with the paint - chips, thin paint, etc. It's a shame because it's definitely the best looking of the 3. On a day to day the CVT is a great transmission. Some tester can not put in there head that it is not a sport car transmission. As for fuel economy you can not beat it! It is also smooth! I've got one for 4 years and I enjoyed it. It is funny that the testers never floor the gaz to hear the engine noise with the other transmissions at full trottle. I would choose the Honda or the Mazda.

He nailed it. If the CVT isn’t a deal breaker, it isn’t a deal breaker. If it is, it is. I was dead set on getting “The CRV” but agreed to drive two others and we chose the CRV, Forrester, CX5. The choice is clear. We had to raise our voices quite a lot on the on ramps with a CVT. The slingshot affect really ruins it for me. The CRV is hard to see out of too. I don’t own a CRV and never will. Forrester was a very close second. I do a own a new “non CVT” and I’m happy with it. Though I really hope they can iron out the transmission in these cars, and get some new Honda designers... I’ll need some more choices in 7-10 years. Side note, I stopped reading the comments after the only dig on CX5 was “more frequent synthetic changes”. lol. I’m so happy I’m at a point in life where I can afford to take care of a brand new car - one extra time every two years. LOL. And that I don’t have to scream at my wife whenever accelerating. Note to all CRV drivers, not all cars are loud. Lastly, we’ve never come close to filling the “limited” cargo space. No kids, just a small dog. It holds enough for all our road trips, grocery, occasional lumber, and camping supplies. Not sure what more I could ask for.

I'm a Toyota fan, once getting 500 hundred thousand miles on a 1.8 Corolla, and with that being said; there's a reason why Toyota is "a safe choice" to quote you guys; however, I really feel the new 8 speed transmission Rav 4 will silence a lot of the complaints suggested within this video segment, as well as, I feel that Toyota makes a way better CVT than the competition displayed here. Furthermore, the exterior paint on any Toyota is far better than Honda's, even their Acura line, and I also feel that Toyota takes longer to test their products; thus taking a longer time to release a new, revised version of any of their lines.

If you care about driving and are not too lazy about basic maintenance, get the CX5 (I think better seating position and interior feel will outweigh the slight cargo capacity disadvantage in real life, most of the time). If driving quality is not a priority, but reliability and practicality are, get the RAV4 (especially considering the possible decrease in price with the new model arriving). Honda is out of question in this one. The only thing it has going for it is the interior, both in terms of size and comfort.
