1939: Edna May was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role as Widow McKlennar. Set in New York's Mohawk River Valley during the Revolutionary War, John Ford directed. Here, she makes her irrepressible entrance! A wonderful movie, John Ford's first in technicolor. With Claudette Colbert and Henry Fonda.

In this scene, particularly, Edna May Oliver's performance may indicate a notable influence on how Fonda portrayed older characters such as "Henry Stamper" in "Sometimes A Great Notion" or Norman Thayer in "On Golden Pond".

One of my favorite movies from childhood. I love Edna Mae Oliver as an actress and what a character she portrayed in this film! Tough, determined, spunky and a bit naughty mixed with compassion and fair mindedness. I couldn't help but admire her character as a girl and do so even now that I'm an adult. Great stuff, thanks so much for uploading!

This lady looks like someone to never cross, but, if you are upfront with her, she will be with you.
