We played this for our mother when she passed away. We looked at songs to play for her service and I ran across this song. I had never heard it before. Pretty much took me to my knee’s at 60 years old. I was asked to speak at her funeral and I added his words ( a heart that’s been broke is a heart that’s been loved ) to my speech about mom. After I spoke this song was played, our minister was sitting directly in front of me. He had never heard the song before and I could see him listening to the words. By the last chorus he was saying the words to the song. When the funeral was over he came and talked to me about what I had said and what a wonderful song. I must have listened to it a 100 times before her funeral with the thought that if I heard it enough it wouldn’t hit me so hard. I was wrong…. 10 months later and it still hits me. What a song and what a performer…. Simply the best!

The saddest and most heartfelt moment is during the songwriter film, watching him play it to his dad for the first time, fighting back the tears, sippng his coffee and staring into the cup, when the song ends, glancing up through teerful eyes looking for approval from his father who himself, off camera is probably fighting back tears himself. brought tears to my 50 years old eyes.....Ed, your grandmother will beso proud.

The fact no guitar was used shows how vulnerable he was allowing himself to be. I just lost my grandmother and randomly found this performance, but damn does it resonate with me. It's a great feeling to cry and laugh at the same time. I, like Ed know our loved ones are in a better place. It doesn't change the hurt we have from them no longer being present, however, we take comfort in knowing we'll see them again and they are watching us above. Hallelujah indeed.

When you do those things, your mum is not dead. She's alive in you. Well done, good and faithful servant. God bless you, Robert

His grandmother is the one who died. He wrote this song from his mother perspective. Your comment is beautiful though.
@rev57743 жыл бұрын
@@-.a9942 Thank you for your helpful note. I actually knew that fact about his grandmother's death. Interestingly I also learned that Ed calls both his grandmother and his mother "mum". At first I thought it was his mother because of his use of "mum", but later watched another video where he shared it was in fact his grandmother who died which explains why I used his word, "mum". One of Ed's best songs, I think. Blessings.
