Thank you so much for this video! I just added two small Dowiana to my collection. They were shipped bare-root from Ecuagenera. Following the advice of a local grower I potted mine in small plastic Vanda baskets. The medium I used was large Orchiata, hydroton and charcoal. I have each of the pots nested in a clear pot with loads of air holes. This is one of the orchids that I really want to grow.

Fingers crossed Andrea that the re-potting will spur the plant on to more growths and eventual blooming......thank you and have a very good weekend, Ed.

My dowiana is far from that size… hoping it would grow faster but our cloud likes us too much… One day I will need to repot. Thank you for sharing. Yoshi

Good evening Yoshi and thank you for your comment. They are not slow growers and I find them one of the quickest growers among the cattleyas. At least 12 hours of good light and plenty of warmth suits it fine....and the warm water. They don't require very much feeding but when small a bit if seaween extract will be appreciated.......thanks and take care, Ed.

I just had to repot mine as well 😄 I have to admit, although we have warmer temperatures than you do, it is definitely not as warm as it should be 🤔 hope your temps rise soon 🥰

Well it touched 18c today Nina......our temps in summer are comparable to your winters but they both have their pros and cons. I watch all your videos but been too busy, or lazy, to make a comment.....I will try and rectify that!! Take care and have a lovely weekend, Ed.

@@EdsOrchids its been the first proper warm day here today, Ed! The way it is supposed to be, but... unfortunately we had our first fire in the hills, which is not a good start for the summer, in that regard. Several towns were evacuated in their entirety... luckily it is no where near us to cause any damage, with the exception that I just cleaned the patio and now it is covered in ash 😓 champagne problems compared to what is going on in the hills 10 kms away. I really appreciate your time watching my videos, thank you, Ed! I have found that, running a channel makes it harder and harder to be proactive leaving comments, but watch the videos and ads... that I still do. Your support is very much appreciated 🥰

Ed, I want to ask you about watering Cattleya when in bloom. Do I stop watering it altogether or do you keep on watering? If you stop watering at what stage do you stop.
@EdsOrchids2 жыл бұрын
Good evening Terry. I would continue watering when they are still in the growing mood but always let them dry out completely before watering again. Don't water as much after flowering, say after 10 days, and if you are meaning dowianas they will require a dormant period before new growths begin to appear. Hope this helps a little...take care, Ed.
