It gives a look that just cannot be replicated with the cameras of today. If you want to be a truly well rounded photographer I believe you need an old camera like this in your arsenal of cameras to use, as it gives such a different character. The pictures from cameras like this and the original 5D classic are just beautiful, and are still very relevant today.

@@MercedesBenzGKlasse I don't necessarily disagree with either side as I have both an A7IV and D700(which is praised for it's color rendering) but I have done blind tests where people have believed shots taken with my A7IV were a D700 or 5D Classic. I wouldn't do that on the regular as it can be slightly time consuming but it can be done rather easily. Plus if I want that look I'll just shoot with that camera.

@@TheRebelBagel I have experienced something similar. I have the 5D classic, and since I had it my photography with the M50mkII has improved tremendousl. Now I can make the colors / texture of the M50 very similar to the 5D classic... (not always, but more often than I expect). Yet, it took the 5D experience /lessons to teach me how to get there with the mirrorless.

If you are into CCD sensors, then the most epic one is the one in the Nikon D200 or Pentax K10D. It was the same sensor, and has all the things you like about the CCDs at 10MP. Even better, DxO Deep Prime also supports those sensors, so you get a significantly better image out of them, with practically no noise. I was amazed how my 10 year old photos look now, with the technology of today helping to mitigate the shortcomings of the technology of yesteryear. Give it a try!

Nice to see new content. Shooting portraits with a DSLR and CCD or early CMOS sensors give a different look of what is seen in over processed images today. I may rebuy a 5D just for that reason. I used to have this one, that CCD sensor had quite unique colors, only 4.1Mpx but weak low pass filter, so pictures has been really sharp. Here pictures after basic conversion from RAW look instantly like from magazine. I remember my huge disappointment from 1Dmk2 where was really strong low pass filter, so pictures looks almost like out of focus, they somehow fixed this in 1Dmk2n.

@PerfectNormal Hi, I have also MK2n, and picture is perfect, but I suggest to shoot everything into raw, then convert it in Adobe camera raw. Just one heads up, be carefully with AF to set to 45points, sometimes it really makes soft focus, if you choose one particular point focus is really sharp.

I recently bought the 2006 EOS 1D Mark II. I really love it so much. It isn't as fast as newer ones but its still great to use. I bought it on EBay for under $200. I like having two slots for memory cards. I did find out that it is hard to find batteries, however. I mainly use it for outdoor landscape work. Its sure a heavy camera but it's nice to know it's well made. Now I want a Canon 400 mm f2.8. lens. From the same seller I bought a Canon EOS 1N film camera for $69. I do a lot of b&w film photography. It sure a step up from old EOS 630.

I think the few shots out of focus might have been the lens, and not the camera. I had the same issue with the Nifty fifty lens (50mm F1.8), a good many times it just missed focus on both the 20D and the 5D classic. This never happens with the EF 85mm F1.8, EF 24mm F2.8 IS USM, or the Sigma ART 35mm....

I bought the canon DC-E1 battery adapter with wall wart. I have a portable lithium Ion battery pack I can carry in a backpack to shoot for 3-4 days of continuous high fps shooting. Third solution is 8x 18650 3000mah samsung cell battery pack with 13v regulated output. This is a hard case that screws into the bottom tripod thread on the body and connects to the DC-E1. Fourth solution is using 3x18650 3000mah cells installed inside the OEM battery shell with a dc-dc regulator for 13v output.

highly recommended imho. It's a great camera. Not only was the original 1D CCD sensor based, flash sync goes all the way up to 1/500 second and shutter speed all the way up to 1/16000 second. Yes, you read that correctly. High ISO performance is very bad compared to modern cameras though. Up to ISO 400, usable, but I'd recommend some NR software like Neat Image (the images clean up great, even at higher ISOs). Out of the camera though, only go up to ISO 400. I regret selling my 1D back in 2007 when I upgraded to the Mark IIn, which is inferior in terms of image quality imho.

I used the original 1D for years until the 1D Mark IIn came out. The biggest and most consistent problem I had was that violet would show up as dark blue. Normal purple (red+blue) on the other hand looked perfectly purple. Unfortunately one team I shot for wore both purple *and* violet things and that made it impossible to correct the violets without turning the true purples into some kind of incorrect reddish purple. In some extreme cases I had no choice but to select the violets manually in post to fix them. Ugh! Of course there were also the rainbow moires due to the weak antialias filter but that didn't happen too often. When someone was wearing something with a dark/light pattern (like black and white plaid) I knew to take lots of shots because there would be some rainbows in them and, with some luck, you'd get some shots that wouldn't require too much work in post. Since there was no way to magnify the images in camera, you wouldn't find out until you looked at them on a monitor. Also point expansion in AF really didn't work for sports (at least not for me). I could feel the delay it was causing my shots when it started using surrounding AF points. It was best to use the single center point and do everything possible to give that one point what it needed to focus properly.

Have you ever used Tamron SP lens on it? I tried my 35 1.4 and 70-210 , neither of them worked. Wondering if it was only my case?

this camera is very similar to the finepix S2Pro and with the advantage of using battery and not the traditional AA that finepix uses... I want to take this moment to say that your work as a photographer is really very good, I loved your photos, congratulations! PS: any errors in the text will be the translator's fault (lol).
