In her talk, Theresa explores the importance and advantages of an interdisciplinary learning spaces over the single-subject classroom environment. Based on her experience doing genetics research, Theresa saw how real work on big problems is not and cannot be done based on the single subject learning model used in high schools today. Because meaningful and important work is nearly always interdisciplinary in nature, she calls on schools to develop interdisciplinary learning spaces.
Theresa Lim is an 11th grader at Sacred Heart Preparatory in San Francisco, California. Theresa loves exploring the intersection of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This year, she carried out an interdisciplinary research project combining her passions for biology, computer programming, and statistics and gained important insights into the importance of interdisciplinary learning. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Fantastic presentation! Thank you for your hard work and insights and good luck to you on your journey. I'm sure you'll bring enlightenment to many. I'm a 56 year old college student who is going into my senior year course in interdisciplinary research. After finishing my initial careers I am back in college to learn a new path. I only wish I had learned your points long ago and am grateful for it now. I couldn't agree more with you in all respects.

She had my attention right from the start, 5 meetings per day with 2 mandatory 30m breaks. That got me ! Our traditional school system needs to change. And the change starts with me.
