I traveled through southern India like Keith did. It brings tears to your eyes. The government provides the school uniform. This is the best set of clothes these kids own. Many of them are barefoot. And yet? No complaining, bitching or discipline problems.

The main problem here are the politicians who pay the citizens to vote for them....well the school in the video is a government school.I live in Tamilnadu and I know the current scenario...the government should take the responsibility to educate them.This talk in the comment section is a little ad nauseam,it's not the fault of the teachers.I have lived in Australia,all the citizens go to government schools as the government schools are far better in education and infrastructure compared to public schools.So people in the comment section commenting about south Indian schools know what is happening here and then commment in south India the starting rate of the fees in a public school is about 60000 ,everyone can't afford this price so they turn to this rubbish school started by irresponsible people

I am from India, more specifically from West Bengal. My home is beside a slum and people from the slum used to work as maid in our house. Sometimes their mother used to bring their daughters, from them I git to learn how they are taking their education. One of girl said that she sold all the books her parents gave, to get achaar (pickle) and skipped classes to make romance with older boys from the slum (gangsters). It kinda funny but also sad to hear. As you may be aware of, South India is considered to be really educated state, from literacy rate to sex ratio is favorable in South India. But that aside if you go a few classes higher like where i am class 12 currently.....the education system is in shambles. The transition from class 10 to 11 is such a big difference especially in science stream, that you will need expensive tuition or coaching classes. I dont know about US education system, but I just wanna tell you that no one is perfect, even our education system is flawed......even our teachers know that.

I have taught in India (for around 7 years)and although my class strength was in 50s, I never ever had a discipline problem. My pay was low, but there was a lot of respect for me as a teacher. Compare it to my life as a teacher overseas (teaching for last 16 years) my class strength is around mid 20s but boy I sometimes feel so disrespected as a teacher. There is a constant whining, complaining and rudeness. It was a cultural shock to me in the beginning, infact I had to relearn and my approach is more focussed on maintaining discipline and trying to keep my students out of drugs. Breaks my heart when I see capable minds going down the drain due to lack of discipline and a sense of entitlement.

I know one thing for sure this country will not be like this for long, the determined youngsters of this country will bring about the change, with our coming-of-age we will kill the negligence and reform the stupid system along with the passing of the people from the previous generation. It's three in the morning, I let myself get a little emotional but I'm serious.

@@kumo206 you're considering India poor because of per capita income, well I'm talking about human resource. India currently has some of the best skilled engineers and doctors and these aspiring kids. By money , yes we are poor, but not by human resource. Just a matter of time, soon these human resources will make India richer in terms of money also.
@kumo206
@kumo206 2 жыл бұрын
@@anshumansharma4566 first of all, as you said we have abundant human resource but are we capitalizing them efficiently? No. How many kids do you think truly want to become doctors and engineers? Many of these children don't want to become doctors or scientists or whatever their parents want them to become they have their dreams but are crushed largely because of the financial situation of their family. I hate this about the Asians (things have changed in many other Asian countries but it's still there), specifically Indians where people disregard any other profession other than the white collar jobs, Why is that? And how long should we people be the worker bees, we need innovators. Yes, we have lot of skilled workers and most of them are working for MNCs. It's the foreign companies that's reaping the benefits off our workers. Now when I said our country's poor I didn't only mean our economy, our street hygiene is poor, our public transport? Over priced and under maintained, healthcare, well it's better than america's but then many African country's health care is better than that of the USA(in terms of cost); when you compare our healthcare with the Canadian or the Scandinavian healthcare system it's poor, our schools and colleges obsolete except a few in the metropolitan cities. Our teachers are not proficient enough. The only thing I learned from 14 years of going to school is humility, (I had to learn it the hard way) which is very important but, is that all? Our air will turn toxic sooner or later if we keep going doing this this way. And our population control, abysmal (are we even trying?). We are not taught to think for ourselves, and what does the government do for the tax payers? Im not going to blame the politicians or the people but ignorance and greed. We need to diversify, we need more people in the creative fields, from live action movies to the animated series that the kids watch are bad and biased in many ways. We need to stop making masala flicks and make some thing that makes people think and do them good all the while entertaining them. I do agree with you that this country will change for the better and let's make it better together.

Respected Sir, I respect the motivation and hardwork you are doing to improve the quality of education in your country. I am a teacher myself and from my experience i feel it's very important to have the following qualities in a classroom for effective and Quality learning: • Discipline among students (50% of which depends on parents and 50% depends on the environment of the school) •let kids be kids (by not restricting their imagination) •Balancing the Work Load (Homeworks, Assignments,projects) •Motivation- Very Important factors , as it can change any student . One speech from a teacher can really change a student life) •Determination: The will power, the hungerness to learn and to teach. • Technology- We see kids nowadays are too much dependent on Internet for their homeworks, Assignments or projects. Hence losing creativity skills. Also Addiction in Computer or Mobile Games or Social Media can also ruin the beauty of Childhood and the experimental age of the child passes without being any productive. I wish you sir a very Good Luck and hope you could succeed in your mission.

+keith ballard each country has its own edge in some field ,when it comes to education no one is anywhere near to Indians in terms of our will, love nd respect for studies but the unfortunate thing sir is our education system which is like a child abuse. Here in India we are told things and we are told a lot of things without any focus on how can we imagine a problem nd its solution we are told newton`s laws, ferrel ,tesla with no practical demonstration of how it works,with no reference to how that scientist thought nd came to this conclusion , as a kid we indians solve a lot of problems on maths, physics ,learn a lot of english vocabulary etc etc bt we have no idea what exactly is euclid`s geometry,how brahmagupta gave us trigonometry, why two minus make a plus ,we are made to cram english vocab without anyone telling us its relation with latin so that we can genuinely understand the meaning of those words,we know our national anthem by heart,we also know who wrote it ,what is meant by it bt we dont know why does a nation needs to have a national anthem ,how and from where did this concept of national anthem started etc etc as a kid i have done all this half sided crammy stuff i loved doing physics nd maths bt it was only when around 5 years ago(i had passed school by then) when cheap internet with a reasonable speed became reality in india nd we see the ocw lectures of teachers in america we realize all our basics about every subject are flawed we here in india despite studying a lot do not understand the real and complete thing ,yes i know majority of americans are also not clear on their concepts bt as i said earlier despite our ability and will to study our politicians have done nothing for education in past 68 years i wud say education in your school is far far better than ours

Just because these kids are helpless with their situation does not make it right, they definitely deserve better facilities.

3:30 that is a traditional practice to tie your answers sheets and additional paper, we use strings not because staples were costly! By using strings to tie the teachers can flip and view the paper thoroughly, easier then correcting a stapled papers We practice this through out the south india, and we don’t use any needles to make that hole we used a stapler like thing called punchers. Finally staplers are so cheap in india you can get a stapler from a local shop for 50 rupees(less than a € or dollar) and the pins are just ₹10

As an Indonesian, this video reminds me how we also have a classroom for poor kids that's taught under a highway in Jakarta. I must say it's sad whenever I come across articles about poverty, especially if it has something to do with children. It's sad how most of them wouldn't be able to get educated due to their parents not having enough money, and they're probably gonna end up being unsuccessful just like their parents and continue the cycle of poverty to their children and offspring (If they ever have one). I must say, if you come from a first world or developed country, you should be grateful, because as bad as your education system can be, at least you don't need a hard time going to school like these kids. Anyways, since this video was made in 2011, I hope these kids have now grown and live a successful life, amen.
