Freeboard height is taken from the water level to the deck line and not sheer line. Plimsol mark is at midships not at the bow as shown
@joaovianna7321
@joaovianna7321 5 жыл бұрын
I did not know anything about it but I thought that mark (Plimsol) did not make sense in front but in the middle of the ship as you say, that way one could see if the ship was stern or bow heavy.

I work as a stevedore "aka longshoreman" . Many new hands always ask, what the white lines mean in the side of the ship?. And many co-worker who have been here years sill don't know. Now I show them this simple video. Thanks for the info keep up the good work. And please do more about cargo and barge vessel.

Freeboard of the ship definitely is not the vertical distance from the water line to the sheer but vertical distance from the waterline to main deck of the vessel which is uppermost continuous deck of the vessel...thanks good work keep it up

Basically incorrect! 1) Plimsoll mark’s position is midships. 2) Free board is distance up to the main deck. 3) Absolutely confuse auditory about loading conception. Conclusion - isn’t recommended for seaman, enough for others.

Грузовая марка должна устанавливаться на середине длины судна. А также горизонтальная лини и ватерлиния должны находиться на одной линии.

wrong, there is only one and is located in the center of the ship (known as Midship section), and the plimsoll line location is determined by calculation of how much weigth can the ship carry, and the document is known as "Stability Booklet", all ships above 24 meters in length should have an "Stability Booklet", regards

This Video has many things wrong with it. The load lines that are been shown is for the Starboard side, and we are looking at the port side of the vessel. PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH THESE VIDEOS SO PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE DETAILS ARE RIGHT.

I think the plimsol line it should be located at the middle ship rather at the centre of the ship plus free board is a reserve of flotation, and it's is the vertical distance from main deck to mid ship draught.

As this ship is registered (and presumably insured) with Lloyds, hence the LR, Iwould have thought that the word 'draft' should have been spelled 'Draught'.

2:59 It is not true! You can load vessel with exactly the same weight independent on the water according to load lines - you should keep in mind, that vessel loaded on denser water must maintain buoyancy even when travelling to regions with less dense water.
@venusseluna9996
@venusseluna9996 2 жыл бұрын
In a simpler sense, its just referring to the ship being in the same buoyancy for the example of physics

- ...and before you or anyone else chips in with 'actually, the plimsoll line does show how much volume is under the surface'... In reply to your detailed feedback I'll not treat your views so disrespectfully by just 'chipping in' or similar. Must admit that I did watch this video in a bit of a hurry leading to my hastily made comment. Beg your pardon, I do stand corrected. Thankyou for drawing my attention as to how and where, allowing me to learn directly and correctly from you instead.

This video has many flaws and the biggest one is that the Marks are in the wrong direction. The vessel is shown Port side where as the Loadline Marks are for Stbd side... Have a look... Serious mariners pls do not follow this

While the video is very good, there are several mistakes which could confuse people. Firstly tiburochako is correct in saying that the marks are placed midships on either side of the vessel. Secondly the load lines are forward of the plimsoll mark not aft as shown in this video. Thirdly is gives the impression that you can load more cargo in fresh water than in salt water this is not true and is all dependant on DWA, FWA and TPC
