A student decides she needs a decent grade after blowing off the semester. Teachers love this student.
When it comes to the end of the school year, grading finals and research papers can be miserable enough. The inevitable student that pulls in after a 2 month bender in Slacker City makes a professor like me want to stab myself in the brain.
Teachers can relate. If you can't, you will soon. Students are better off to just walk in and say, "I blew it. Can we fix this at all." Save the stories. Spare the excuses.

@@cancelledopinion2158It is super competitive. However, once students are accepted into medical school, they sometimes think that they don’t have to impress anyone anymore, and may slack off as a result.

My grandmother legitimately died during my second year of college. I didn't use it as an excuse for my failures, but I did spiral into binge drinking for a while. While I think it's lame for people to claim their grandparents or whoever died a hundred times throughout their college career, it's another thing entirely to assume that everyone is lying.

I love this! I am a professor at four colleges and you would not believe what we have to hear. I show this video to so many classes I teach! ha The one about Abraham Lincoln reminds me of when I was in college and a student got up in speech class and gave a speech about our first president-Abraham Lincoln. True story.

I can't imagine profs that actually give extra credit. Is that actually a thing in some universities or do some students think they can ask for this? Because every one of these I've seen the students ask for extra credit. I feel like asking for extra credit to go from an B+ to A- at some point just to see what they'd say.

criticalthinkersarescarce Smith Really? I've had a few, but mostly for one thousand level classes. Although, once, for a junior level class, the assignments added up to 120%, giving me some leeway to screw up.

Even if this teacher gave extra credit, she probably wouldn't even do it or do it poorly. She just wants to have the feeling of knowing that even if everything is going wrong for her, there would always be some safety net that could save her any any point.

When I was in high school I would ask myself why a lot of my fellow students are there. I once took a physical science class when I was a senior, it was a sophomore level class. I was amazed how stupid some of the students in the class were. I know this is from college but some students literally do not care about learning anything.

Makes me really feel for the professor. What's worse is working *with* people like this on projects! They are always "busy" and don't contribute sufficient work. Thank God for peer reviews. ;)

I really wish more profs were like that....All jokes aside, personally I think that is part of the problem in society today. Over time there seems to be this constant growth of self entitlement and whether that stems from the parent, or if it is picked up by the kid I am unsure but there really seems to be an increase. Now, educators can't even look irritated without someone freaking out. No clue what there is to be entitled about exactly and not going to waste my time trying to figure it out :)

Of course it's not his problem...neither is anything of the student's life outside the classroom. Either the student makes the classes scheduled or he doesn't. If he doesn't - he gets to take the class over again. Too bad. Life is rough. Stop hoping your teachers will make it easy. Hint: They already do.

@purplewowies We all do, but that's why this video was made... Students will have these sorts of discussions at the end of the semester instead of working something out. It raises an eyebrow on so many levels because it's still their responsibility to work something out if special circumstances exist; since the teacher is taking care of hundreds of students it's the student's job to make personal contact. If the teacher makes this difficult then we can say the teacher is bad. But not before.

A students are usually those who know how to know (KH2K) and apply it B students are generally those who KH2K but don't consistently advance it C students often don't KH2K, they do great in certain areas but not in other areas D students often don't KH2K, get confused and frustrated leading to disinterest F students often don't care to know Armis is great for C and D students because it provides a process to learn how to KH2K. Knowing how to know is the key to meaningful intelligence

I found this while writing an e-mail to a prof about blowing off the last two papers we had and asking if it was possible to still get a C. I really just hate the class, but I'm spinning it like I'm busy with work and all that. I thought a D would still count as passing, but apparently not in the stupid core required class. FECK. I hate grades and papers and myself for being so lazy and unmotivated and going to college for no good reason. Rant over...

That doesn't mean this video has no validity. A lot of students do grade grub and grab for excuses, and all of the comments on this video should tip off that this isn't TOO far off the mark.

@mochafudgetruffle I'm a very successful full time student at an accredited university in Alabama. I am on a full academic scholarship, and it is such "black and white" thinking that has allowed me to be successful throughout my academic career. Yes, there are bad teachers out there, but that does not place the responsibility of the student's success on the teacher. I hate seeing teachers get blamed for mediocre work ethic displayed by many students today.

This depiction seems very typical of college students. I remember last semester a child, and he was a child, who came to class with his pillow and blankie. The adolescent proceeded to ask me why I don't like him...I am thankful to be free of people like that for now. Surely it will be a similar situation as I continue on at university. Why anyone would pay $239 per credit hour simply to fail, I certainly don't know! Someone has to change our oil and make hamburgers, I certainly won't.
