At the speed she was going down head first, if she had hit him in the legs, not only could she have severely injured his legs, knees or ankles, she could have gotten injured as well. Head, neck and shoulder injuries were a very real possibility is she hit him. At the rate she was sliding down that slope, she was just a 120lbs cannon ball. Now instead of just one person sliding down the mountain, you have two and both with possible serious injuries. She wasn't sliding towards rocks or a cliff and had a better chance of survival the further down she went since the incline was less severe below them.
