Edvard Munch: A collection of 1640 works (HD) *UPDATE
(added over 1400 new paintings than previous video)
Description: "Edvard Munch was a prolific yet perpetually troubled artist preoccupied with matters of human mortality such as chronic illness, sexual liberation, and religious aspiration. He expressed these obsessions through works of intense color, semi-abstraction, and mysterious subject matter. Following the great triumph of French Impressionism, Munch took up the more graphic, symbolist sensibility of the influential Paul Gauguin, and in turn became one of the most controversial and eventually renowned artists among a new generation of continental Expressionist and Symbolist painters. Munch came of age in the first decade of the 20th century, during the peak of the Art Nouveau movement and its characteristic focus on all things organic, evolutionary and mysteriously instinctual. In keeping with these motifs, but moving decidedly away from their decorative applications, Munch came to treat the visible as though it were a window into a not fully formed, if not fundamentally disturbing, human psychology."

Most people who know about the art of Edvard Munch...have only ever known/seen such universally famous masterpieces as: - The Scream! - The sick child - Puberty - The day after But, with the help of this 'one' video...I feel I have gone and discovered a whole entire 'new' world...of Munch 'masterpieces'. I am so deeply grateful...for the person/or, people...who have gone and uploaded this video collection...all I can say is, well and truly, GREAT...witnessing seeing the splendid colours/overall design/control over perspective/proportion/figurative people/and, of course, not forgetting his remarkable 'psychological insight' into people's character, as well/-etc. Quite honestly, my praises can only just go on and on and on...; such beautiful works, wow...revealing, endless...'masterpiece after masterpiece'...I confess that I watched it all day/night long...pausing before this one/or, that one...which I truly couldn't resist seeing...! ;-) Right now, I'm still in the process of 'thinking' about buying a book which can tell me lots more about this artists life/relationships/influences/work/times/-etc.

His works remind me of my naive paintings during elementary. It's very interesting that he had used oils, yet his works are so bright, simple, full of life.

I don't agree, exactly. He had many famous paintings (or 'series' of paintings): The Vampire, The Sick Child, Jealousy, The Voice, The Girls on the Bridge, etc., etc. At least they are well-known by those interested in 20th-century art. Then, one top of this, he has ONE 'mega' famous image, "The Scream." Recognizable on a scale beyond what practically any other 20th century artist achieved for ONE IMAGE. Even Picasso can't quite claim this.

Never thought a slideshow would put me through so many emotions. Great music choice too. Kevin MacLeod - didn't expect that! Munch's art has a special place in my heart. It's thought provoking and it captures a particular essence that has such a special mood to it. I went to a Munch art gallery in Oslo and it was an incredible experience. One thing I'm fascinated about, among other things, is the way people and things melt together. It's not just arbitrary, it captures a feeling: I think, either a mood he had while drawing or the feeling of the subjects of which he empathized with. Also the pieces about grief has this melancholia and darkness that's hard to describe.

So many facets to the wonderful diamond of his work that I am uncertain as to the descriptive language I yearn to use. Therefore,I purpose to go back and peruse this gallery yet one more time. For somebody who's mainly famous for only one painting, (actually there were half a dozen here that I recognized,) arguably not necessarily his best, when contrasted with the quality of rest of his output, he was astonishingly prolific and it's taking me ages to do full justice to this vast collection. Too much for one sitting or even several sittings; but well worth spending the time.

I have watched this video in its entirety maybe 12 times...but I usually only watch it for about half-an-hour at a time. Even after so many viewings, I can watch it again and see paintings that I don't 'remember' or maybe didn't really appreciate before. I think the human brain can only process so much at a time. Of course I really liked Munch before, and seeing this video has made him my 'favorite artists!" I was familiar with roughly 300 of his paintings before stumbling on this video...which means there were some 1300 I had NEVER seen!
