You did Edward justice. He was described by most chroniclers in his youth as being extremely handsome and very tall. When his bones were exhumed, his skeleton was measured, and it was determined that he was about 6 foot 4 inches in life, which for the time period was incredible.

The pigments used to paint blonde hair in these old portraits had a tendency to darken over time. It’s difficult to gauge what the original would have looked like. Edward IV and his brother Clarence were also supposed to have been blonde, IIRC.

@@herbwitch5681 Edward and Elizabeth's 3rd daughter, Mary died when she was 14 and was buried in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Her tomb was opened in the early 19th century and she was seen to have long blonde hair.

Unfortunately, there are no portraits of Eleanor of Aquitaine that are definitely known to show her as she really looked. The few depictions are not very realistic because real portraiture had died with the Roman Empire. There is "her" effigy on her tomb, but it doesn't necessarily look like her. At that time, tomb effigies were meant to show the dear departed as they would look at the age of 32 (because that's how old Jesus was said to have been at the age of his crucifiction and therefore it was the "perfect" age that a person would be in heaven). The problem was that Eleanor was in her 80s when she died, and given the lifespan of less privileged people in the Middle Ages, it's a safe bet that the sculptor who carved the effigy had never seen the young Eleanor.

Yes, although I don't think she had dark brown eyes. Edward's appear to be hazel in his portraits and Richard's were blue-grey. There is only 1 painting of Elizabeth from which the others were copied and they just look indistinct.

@@livenotonevil8279 It could be this website Artbreeder, which allows you to compose artificial faces so that you can alter images, one of the features allows you to "realify" artworks, which seems to be the case here... another is that you can join two images to see a possible likeness for their children, very fun stuff to play around with, though I use it mostly to create characters for my novel.

@@susanmccormick6022 According to Polydolle Vergill, Henry VII was high man and his wife, Edward's daughter was also high.(she has 168cm). But, while Edward was over 190cm, Henry VIII was 182cm. And I think, Arthur Tudor is more similar to Edward IV in terms of face, not so assertive character (French and Burgandy documents says. )

Before he married Elizabeth, he was well known as a player, in the modern parlance. The remedy for eating too much and feeling blah in those days or having your gut upset the day after you tied one on (things he did regularly) was an emetic.

I’d like to see you do Anthony Woodville, Elizabeth’s brother. He was Edward Vs guardian and uncle. He was arrested by Gloucester whilst escorting the young king to London, and later beheaded at Pontefract castle in June 1483. There is a head and shoulders painting of Anthony, Earl Rivers dressed in his Garter robes if you search for it.

Great job, even if i believe, due to the strand of his hair we still have, Edward´s hair was more light brown reddish. Would love to see some more figures from the Wars of the Roses. I know we do not have portraits of the most of them which is pity.....

Most royal portraits from 15th and 16th century underwent darkening of pigments and hair turned dark brown even if person was blond! So it is totally possible Edward's portrait darkened to much darker brown than he had. For example Mary Rose Tudor's marriage portrait shows raven hair, but two other portraits of her show brightly red hair, even some of Henry VIII's were victim of this and depict him with brown hair(though rather lighter brown, not dark brown which was typical for that darkening).

Your portrait of Elizabeth shows a beautiful woman. She was described as very beautiful, but with blue eyes and pale blonde hair ( people then called the colour of her hair as "silver gilt" ) . I presume that the paint on her eyes has darkened with age and it was originally blue paint. Old paints darken with age.

@@panagiotisconstantinou Sorry I didn't mean to criticise, I was tired and it was late and so I was just commentating on what historians said and wondering about what the colours they described meant in those days, because sometimes the words they used to describe colours are different to today's, and also that paint darkens with age, so the colours we see on old portraits is often not the same as when they were painted. I did give you a compliment, and wrote that you showed her as beautiful.

In reality, Henry wasn't really of the House of Lancaster, he was of the Beauforts; he needed Elizabeth's claim to bolster his barely existing one; and he "united" the houses by killing or exiling every male member of the House of York while marrying the women off to himself and his men.
