Trivium - Forsake Not the Dream @ The Wiltern Los Angeles, CA 2-7-2012

At his Lake Brantley High School talent show, guitarist Matt Heafy performed a cover version of "Self Esteem" by The Offspring. Vocalist Brad Lewter noticed Heafy and asked him to try out for his band. The pair went over to drummer Travis Smith's house where they played Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Impressed with Heafy's performance, they accepted him into the band known as Trivium.

It's not all that consistent, compared to their earlier albums, but some songs in it are amongst their absolute best to this day.

@NZGuitarGuy has a point mate, it's not quite a pinch harmonic, as I can do those anyway, it's also very difficult to get a decent pinch harmonic from the B string which is the the string he does the bend on, it is almost like a half harmonic, so I'm just assuming he just brushes it with his thumb slightly.

I love Nick but dang, I wish he would just let the song breathe a little. He is constantly rushing through everything way too fast in this performance. I think his wild inconsistency playing live was the main reason Trivium decided to move on from him. It certainly isn't a lack of talent or writing creativity. In Waves sounded amazing and the drums were very well written and performed in the studio. But live, its very uneven.

You can pinch on a B string, it just doesn't sound like that. it's a different tone. But if you're blasting full volume out of a tube amp with good mids, a bend with vibrato like that will usually shriek like that on its own

Im sorry but this video proves how much better of a drummer Travis was than nick. Nick speeds up the songs too much live and cant keep a steady tempo. he was playing it too fast and corey was trying to keep up when he played the solo. Also sounds like he might be using triggers but i dont know...

Yes he is using triggers, that's why every bass hit sounds perfect almost like a click, it makes it cleaner. Triviums songs aren't fast enough to need it, they're common for extreme metal, dummy borgir so the constant double bass notes don't muddle up. If nick wasn't using them you wouldn't hear the improvisation as badly
