What a fun visit! I LOVE red transferware and in 40 years of thrifting I have found one lonely bread plate but I have it proudly displayed amongst my other treasures. This visit today was quite educational for those of us who are on the hunt. Can’t wait for the next visit but then again I always am excited for your visits!!!:):):)
@erin.v.m657Ай бұрын
I have 20 full sets of transferware.It's become a ....problem. lol. Mostly from thrifting and estate sales. I think it mainly depends on your location. And luck I suppose.
@vickiulrich6694Ай бұрын
@ I do agree fully and I’m in what I call the barren desert of thrifting. But you know what they say…the thrill of the hunt is almost as sweet as the treasures! I am if nothing else a true thrifting enthusiast only I no longer shop Goodwill because they are just to pricey for what they offer. I now shop Habitat for Humanity so at least I’m helping someone who is working toward home ownership as I hunt for my treasures. When Hunny and I take a day away and check out secondhand and antique shops I do find some real nice treasures but sadly no red transferware but I always hope!!!:):):)

Try ebay, you can find transferware all day long!
@vickiulrich6694Ай бұрын
@ well now…I immediately went over to the eBay website only to find strawberry fair red transferware. My kitchen is strawberries and I’m thinking my pocketbook is going to be some lighter at the end of this day! Jeri, I have only ever heard of it as being a place to sell but I guess it never registered that if someone is selling there also needs to be buyers! I’m honestly not to intelligent when it comes to technology but today I was a VERY fast learner. I also seem to think pink and red transferware are one and the same now that I’ve opened up the eBay website. You now have opened my world up to all new possibilities and I can’t be more excited. So now I just need to keep my head about me as I hunt for I see different prices on the same items from different sellers and I only glanced. I will forever think of you every piece of this treasure I bring into my home…I’ll leave a cup and saucer on the tea tray just for you as a thank you for opening this wonderful opportunity for me to finally grow my red transferware collection after all these many years!!!:):):)

Love your videos. I made these cinnamon ornaments when I taught school every year before Christmas. Children loved making these; made my classroom smelled so good. When I made these, I used a Ziplock bag, cinnamon, and applesauce. Mixed them in the bag, rolled the dough out, and children used cookie cutters and a straw. We had to air-dry their ornaments., and used yarn for hanging. They always turned out beautiful! It was a wonderful memory for my children who didn't have much.

Jeri, I adore your videos. I love the soft warm light in this one, like warm candlelight, as if I was sitting there right with you, at the table, learning about transfer ware. I’m slowly sifting through my Mommy’s dishes, and learning about those also. I find out what they are, write down all the info, dates and names. There are so many different ones, which tell different tales. As I do this, I also find myself picturing them on the table of my Moms early life, and my Grandmothers lives. I wonder what their houses looked like, their table settings, and what they served in them. As I find ones that had been repaired, I can almost see the scene of when they were dropped, and how upset they must have been, as some were only pieces of sets that they had, but their most valuable pieces, as they had been gifts and not purchased by them, as they wouldn’t have not been able to afford them. When I look at the clock, five hours have gone by, as research does, and I have to snap back to present times, and try to reclaim the rest of the day, and move on, with my tasks at hand. It seems, the more research I do, the more I love to do it. Thank you!, for such lovely videos, and the upcoming Christmas’ in Edwardian times. 💜 ~ Jerri

Well, that was fun! I am going to make some of those delicious smelling ornaments! I have seen them before but never knew the recipe. Thank you! I am exited about this series, Jeri! I love the Edwardian Era! I live in in the last settled part of our country. I am in the Texas panhandle and cattle drives passed through here, carefully, heading up from south Texas to Colorado or Kansas to meet the rail so the cattle could be shipped back east. We had a couple little towns spring up, here, in the mid to late 1880's after the last of the indian wars. One town was called simply "RagTown". They called it this because the whole top half of the buildings in that town were made of canvas, like a tent. There wasn't hardly any wood in this area so, they used what they had. Those were the humble beginnings of Amarillo, Tx. It is amazing to me that this part of the country was just getting started in the Edwardian era. Our oldest larger homes are Victorian and Edwardian styles. It was the newest style and those cattle ranchers wanted the nicest and best for their wives! Most of the homes weren't that fancy but they were built well. Anyway, I always think of this town in it's beginning stages when there was electricity back east! I hope you enjoy creating this series as much as we will all enjoy watching it! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! See ya next week!❤
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollowАй бұрын
That is such an interesting bit of the past from your neck of the woods, love it! The Edwardians were the first to have electricity in their homes, but this house didn't have it until the 1940's, it still had gaslight! In fact, there was no indoor plumbing in this house until the 1950's... outhouse out back.
@mariankay6482Ай бұрын
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Wow! That was a back hills house! When I was around 9 our 10, I went with my next door neighbors to a home in Oklahoma that still didn't have any indoor facilities. They had running water in the kitchen. I had to go outside and check for spiders and snakes before doing anything else! And, they brought in an aluminum tub for our Saturday night bath! It was in the kitchen! They heated our water in a big kettle and that was that! This was almost, if not, 1970! My mother kept the letter I mailed her while I was there. I am sure she got a big kick out of my writing to her about the outhouse!🤣

They cinnamon ornaments aren't necessarily Edwardian, but I wanted to get the scent of Christmas in the house. The molds, however could easily have been in an Edwardian home because they have been around since the 1600's.

Beautiful! My mother always made similar ornaments to yours & it brings back lots of wonderful memories. I have a rather large collection of the red/pink transferware which I purchased on Portabello Road in London & brought back in my carry on luggage back in the mid 90’s…before TSA/9-11 packing issues😅 it was SO heavy! Each piece survived & I have SUCH great memories of shopping with my mother on our girls trip to the UK together. She passed quite early of cancer at age 70….so I’m very happy we made so many great memories together early on in life.❤ Each time I bring them out I think of her.🥹 Thank-you for the lovely video! Loved this transferware history!! I have antique tea cups of the Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles, and a more recent reproduction of a whole dinner set in the Blue and White, i got such a great deal on them years ago and now they’re so expensive but I’m always on a look out! Our home was built in 1904 and I look for things to help make it look like what it could have been when it was built. Over the years either things get removed or they break. We still have all the original wood windows and i love them!

I made those with my kids when they were little years ago, probably 33 yrs because the youngest was a baby then. They were so easy and smelled so good!
