Edwards served as the Governor of Louisiana from 1972-1980, 1984-1988, and 1992-1996. He discusses: his decision to not seek a fifth term as governor; his 1985-1986 trial in federal court against United States Attorney John Volz; the murder of his brother Nolan Edwards; his interactions with the press; assassination attempts made against him; and his relationship with his wife, Candy Picou.

By far the best Louisiana governor ever with Bel Edwards being a close second. Edwards selling Louisiana character and Bel Edwards solving complicated issues. I first saw Edwin campaigning near Provosts restaurant downtown New Iberia while I was eating a bowl of hot chili. This was before I left for Nam in 1967. Yes, I'm a Republican...😎

EWE had Democratic-controlled State Legislature during his 16 years. JBE had to deal with hostile Republican-controlled State Legislature during his administration.

I am a Republican in Texas. I grew up near the Louisiana state line. He was elected governor when i was in 9th grade. I followed him much of my young adult hood. I think he was a pretty decent gentleman and a very effective governor for Louisiana. RIP Governor.

Edwards has survived nearly all of his contemporaries. Even Gus Weill, who was several years younger than Edwards, was survived by Edwards. He's looking to go on until age 104.

@sboudreaux27 Right! Blanco was 15 years younger than he, too. He also outlived Elaine Schwartzenburg Edwards, one of her siblings; all of his siblings, two of whom were younger; his sister-in-law Aline Luther Edwards along with her two sisters; also, Gov. David Treen, and Lt. Gov. Robert Freeman. His eldest two children are near or at age 70 as are two nieces by his brother Marion. If Edwards reaches his goal of living 104 years, it's a near certainty that he will survive at least one of the older children and nieces. The only one older who is still alive that I can think of is Jimmy Fitzmorris.

@sboudreaux27 oh yes, it'll draw crowds from near and far. His 90th birthday party was a huge turnout for someone who has served four terms as governor, served a stint in prison. His personality and energy are magnetic.
