This covers the basic principles well enough, but the circuit probably looks a bit strange to most people. In a negative earth vehicle, the emitter is usually connected to ground and the primary of the coil is wired between the collector and the positive battery feed. Thanks for doing this series of videos.

When you are right , the shown schematics is called common collector also known as emitter follower. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_collector

So this system still uses points. Some systems which are very similar don’t use points. Are the pointless systems as good as those with points?

Not working causes: - capacitor across primary to increase spark efficency; - safety zener to prevent voltage spikes across base and ground; - circulation diode across collector and emitter. Diodes and transistor must be at least 2 times bigger in voltage and amps. This due to the spikes that the coil in combination with the capacitor go to resonance (but this is a general case, you need to calculate it). The design is not working. I tested it in real life and it blows up in half second!!!
