One year later… Did we make a mistake buying our Winnebago Travato??

I own and travel in a 2018 Travato 59G...also have an electric bike but went with folding bike to be able to store inside so less worry about theft. Also carry a folding ORU kayak on the roof, a Brava Oven for cooking, wet suit with snorkeling gear, switched out tv for Apple computer with versa mount, Starlink with extendable flagpole, and almost never use campgrounds. Current trip is Key West, Fl to Banger, Maine then up to Newfoundland, Canada, across to Deadhorse, Alaska, down to Homer, over to Skagway, then to Miles City, Montana and back up to Glacier National Park and currently outside Libby , Montana. So far I have only paid for 3 nights inside Glacier NP at $10.00 a night.

@@EECCTravels I do very little planning and never make advance reservations allowing me to travel at the speed I want. If I like a place I can spend more time for example I am now staying at a Corp. of Engineer Campground called Blackwell Flats outside Libby, Montana for free for 2 weeks. I use IOverlander app almost exclusively.

As I seen another couple 1st rented a van went to amazing places before getting a 5th wheel then settling with kids home schooling etc. To another couple i follow just recently checking out these campsites and last minute just to see what they could find. They found all they needed on 4th of July weekend. Was told most all always have a availability for drop ins coming by there way. They used apps also. But didn't gey free. agreed. Particularly now with all the threats of hidden cameras etc. I agree the 'wet room' logic is not ideal, I'd likely forego a closet for a separated toilet / shower in the van.

We LOVE our Travato 59KL with the Lithium. We've had ours for almost 2 years and never had to plug in to electricity. We use it all the time for day trips. Lots of dinners at the beach in Carmel CA.

We downsized from a Class-A to a van. Love the rv lifestyle! A B-class makes traveling so much easier than an A-class. Chose the American Coach Patriot MD-2 w/lithium package. I’m tall (6’4”), so needed the king size bed and lithium package so we could boon-dock easily.

We enjoy our 22KL after nearly 3 years now. Had a few issues early on, mainly with the Volta lithium but all was taken care of under warranty and in a timely fashion. Hard to find a rig this small that when you make up the large bed with the 2 twins it's just shy of a King. We don't have acrylic windows and happy for that, they do have some issues with other owners. The fact we can park this in our driveway that has some slope was big, as was the fact it gets decent gas mileage and doesn't break the bank to drive. We've had it at 11K ft in CO and the 6 speed drives nicely. We're not campground people and often use golf courses that have tons of open parking at night and normally in good areas and quiet. We park anywhere and everywhere with the Lithium and rarely plug in. Bathroom in the back of the KL is nice, can shower outside if you want commode is as far away from living space as possible. So far so good for us.

Winnebago >>> Thor in every way. We bought a used small Winnebago Class C on Mercedes chassis, downsized from 30' travel trailer. Do you leave your chairs and stuff out at the campsite when you need to leave? We are still finding that balance between vehicle and camper.

We bought a 2020 trivado last year took off went South. We can get around easy on gas. I pull my 6 by 12 motorcycle trailer. And I'm ready to go again now. I'm waiting for a knee replacement and my 3 dogs. Already to go and I have to wait. What a bummber. Absolutely I could live in a van....the PLUS is all the places that would be easy to camp in off the grid! We have been fulltime in our RV for 8 years now, living the minimalist lifestyle is so amazing but it is not for everyone for sure. In fact we may someday have a 2nd rv and it would be a van for weekending because towing our 39' toy hauler isn't always easy to get into certain mountain locations. Glad you are enjoying your Winnebego, they make a great product!

Whenever we camped Tent or RV we used showers at campgrounds. Truck stops these days have nice showers also always available.

If you need a shower just ask a truck driver for one of their extra shower credits at any major truck stop. We get them for free when we fuel.

This was a VERY helpful video for my husband and myself. Since 2018 we have been camping in a Winnebago Towable (2500FL) and currently have it up for sale to see if there is any interest (Live in FL). We’ve been thinking that a van would be more versatile for us to travel in at this point; especially since we now have a one year old puppy and would also be using it as a daily in town vehicle. We have been watching a TON of videos on various Class B’s and this helped us hearing what it was like to downsize to a much smaller unit. Also, really got me thinking about how I don’t mind going to a campground bathhouse when taking a shower as you’ve stated. Have been a little hesitate when thinking about going into a van with a wet bath, my concerns have been lifted. I wonder if you had looked at the same floor plan of the Coachman 20RB when you were looking (since it seems to be exactly the same layout)? Any one else want to chime in on the Winnebago Travato 59K over the Coachman 20RB? It would be very helpful as we try to make the best decision for us moving forward. In closing, I know a lot of it comes down to personal choice and how ones travels, I certainly get that. Just love seeing what other people’s experiences are when going from a towable, Class A, Class C, etc.. to a Class B. Me and my wife purchased a new Entegra Ethos Li with this same floor plan and we love it . Having just gotten back from a 3 1/2 week trip and we used the facility showers when we could. I actually showered outside the back door a couple times when we were in secluded spots.

I would option the acrylic windows if I owned the K model. I love awning windows. One thing a B van allows you to to is just open sliding door and let the weather and sun into the van. Can't do that with C class. I have an Embassy Sport on the Ford Transit 350 HD dually chassis with the Ecoboost engine. Big power. If I didn't have it, I would have the KL.

You mention road noise...I have a Winnebago EKKO and hate the road noise. The only reason I don't jump on the Travato is the Ram front wheel drive. I drive to WA in the winter, through CO, etc and lots of snowy situations. Do you have any input on the front wheel drive aspect as opposed to AWD of a transit based van?
