I Spent 28 HOURS on Gran Turismo's Longest Race. It Was HELL

I raced SOLO for 28 hours on GT7, the longest possible race on Gran Turismo 7. 200 Laps of the longest circuit, the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. Doing this completely solo, through the night, in the rain with no support was the most gruelling experience of my life. Enjoy!

Just amazing - was there at the start, for many hours during day one, when it was raining, when it was dark and then for the last 50 laps - after the depths of the lows to see the reinvigoration when the boys came in was fantastic but then to see the likes, subs and ultimately the concurrent viewers just grow and grow was exactly what you deserved. I have been playing for two years now and I’ll be so fkn honest when I tell some of you who don’t play that often That I get tired after an hour or at the max three hours. I can’t even comprehend how Rory has done this race. Man how have you learnt the track that well. I recently took my personal car an E63s to the Nurburgring, i didnt do any competitive laps just leisurely with a bit of pushing and best i got was a 12min lap. I have to admit i was not pushing hard as i didnt want to break my car or eat my tires or burn my brakes. I did 3 laps and called it a day but it was sooooo much fun. Best 45mins of my ownership of the car. Luckily it was a warmish 23° day so no rain just sun and smiles. Good job on the 200laps.

Wow what an achievement, having taken part in real world 24 hour races I can only appreciate the mental strength it must’ve taken you to go for so long, drivers are typically done after 2/3 hour stints (obviously the physical challenge is different) but those night stints in particular are more brutal. Time 22:20 I spent over 20 years in the US Navy. I missed 8 Christmas days, many Easter Sundays and countless Birthdays and Anniversaries. I did that for the family. Free medical, free College etc… Looking back I’m not sure it was worth it. I missed so much of my family’s growing up. Now I am out and I only have one child left at home. I do all the things with her I wasn’t able to do with her siblings. She is getting all of my time now but the other children didn’t get near their fair share of me. Do what you can now while they are young because they grow up so fast. Don’t blink or you’ve missed out on something else.

Endurance racers usually only spend three hours on the track. Then they switch drivers and continue. As much as I love GT7, I have to say that I can only last about an hour and a half in the game at most. After that, I just don't want to play the game anymore. Endurance racing is hard. One lap of the Nürburgring takes eight minutes. I calculated that it would take at least 26 hours to do 200 laps without rest. It would take longer if you include pit stops.
