Love the insight into the engineering and design process Dave gets into these teardown videos. Awesome.

I have 2 mid grade JVC's. They have been through so many mud bogs in open trucks. So many times, I thought they must be ruined, all covered in thick mud. Now years later, one finally quit. It got mud in the zooming mechanism. The second one still works but recently got too close to my hand grinder and burnt little pits in the lens. Remarkably, it still records clearly except when the sun is facing the lens. JVC's are awesome! Nice to see the inside, thanks.

Usually year and month (or week) of production. AFAIK they are not part of the original mold but moveable inserts that can be changed around so the date can be changed without having to produce a new mold.

I work on a systems integration team for a company that makes electromechanical chemical instruments for medical diagnostics. We have 5-10 of each: mechanical software electronic engineers and chemists and scientists. Getting all of them on the same page requires a special type of engineer. I'm a bioengineer which is the perfect discipline for that

36:10 you might want to disable auto-focus on your main camera if it supports it. I noticed that it was trying to compensate for your adjustments to the camera lens assembly during that experiment.

13:07 Notice that they've punched holes in the (I'm assuming) hot/signal trace of one of the mic's! I assume this was a mono model,then? I assume they must use the same microphone assembly in more than one model? Why not just remove (omit) the unused mic in the first place? Save a whole 20 cents each! Curious.

They would start with the basic rectangular design then put the hole into the plastic where necessary to accomodate cables. Most models have a similar shape and design, so they can use them as a basic template. I would imagine they would use CAD and 3D printing of prototypes all the way too.
@isashach11 жыл бұрын
Although I'm sure that JVC sells lots of models, I'm guessing they're all very similar - the differences may be in the external housing + a few extra buttons here and there and some features unlocked on the processor. The TV industry does the same thing to obfuscate their TV's (especially Samsung, they literally have a model number per retailer) so that if one model number starts getting bad reviews or bad press, the rest of their business won't be affected as much I guess.

In regards to the lens and the manufacturer. A lot of cameras will advertise on the lens or in their brochures things like "Ziess Lens" or "Leica Lens"... For the most part, even on professional fixed-lens cameras, all Zeiss, Leica, Konica do is engineer a "lens pattern" and maybe do some manufacturing. The camera company actually builds the lens. So really it should read "Designed by Konica/Minolta". Canon may be the only one that this doesn't apply to since they are also a lens company.

I have a JVC thatI have, and I dropped on Easter morning video my kids Easter hunting. it was a raining day. so I put it in my pocket, and it fell out of my pocket. now it will not focus. but it looks like it did not damaged it, only time i dropped it and was not on at the time. help help how to reprogram to focus. if I did not brake something inside I hope.

JVC Camera's aren't what they used to be… back in the day they were the leading camcorder brand behind Sony of course, these days Sony is your number one followed by Cannon, Panasonic and JVC would be last in terms of features, build quality and general video quality… it's unfortunate… but it would explain why I had a few JVC digital HDD camcorders break down after a couple of years

Just to let you know. I purchased a JVC GR-850U camcorder in 2008. It worked fine since 2012 after my family & I came back from Key West in March of that year. It sat on a closet shelf for several months, then when I tried to use it again I got an 0E3 error message "in safeguard mode". JVC has known about this problem for years and has done nothing to fix it. I got ripped off! I thought that JVC was a reputable brand, but I will never buy another thing from them because they are crooks! But, If YOU might be smart enough to figure out what is broken, then please share!
