@gglovato
@gglovato 10 жыл бұрын
Re pricing on the options is retarded, if you add 2 or 3 of them you go over 1K easily, for SOFTWARE additions -_- i mean, 197$ JUST to enable the memory they purposedly disabled(why not release it with 24mpts and be done with it?, the HW is there!, they could shake the market with that!, but nope...) serial decoding?, 174 advanced trigger(whatever that does its not specified), 191 more! WTH MAN, that's highway robbery For some ~30$ more than the DS1104Z you can go to the DS2072A with 2chans at 70MHz and that one has 500uv/div, it's a shame they didn't make a 2 channel Z model

swifterik Just lets you observe the voltage of a given connection, and over time; its 'sampling', so taking readings so many thousands/millions of times per second, and giving you a window to scroll back and forth over this value. So you essentially ahve a graph of voltage on the vertical axis, and time on the horizontal. (And many more topions.) You can zoom in to very detailed levels, and set up triggers to capture when certain events occur, etc. If you know software, than an oscilliscope is the debugger for hardware.

it's like a multimeter that let's you measure voltage. but instead of a digital reading a few times a second it plots the voltage on the vertical axis of a graph, and does that really fast alsong the x axis. this let's you see waveform in a circuit. a waveform is just a fast changing voltage though.

I have the 1074Z which was the cheapest in the 1000Z series until this came out. I can't recommend it highly enough! This scope really can't be beaten at the low end of the market. The DS1000Z series is the first low end DSO that I've considered to be worth buying for an amateur compared to a second hand CRO. At only £286 inc. VAT in UK from the official distributor Telonic, it's the exact same price as the DS1052E it supersedes. People seem to still be paying that price for Owon or Siglent or GW Instek scopes which are about equivalent to the DS1052E - Crazy.

hehe, don't feel bad, i know it's 2 years later, but i literally just saw a guy on ebay in melbourne selling a DS1052E (non upgraded) for $460 LMFAO hmmmm, is someone looking to screw someone else over so they can buy themselves a DS1054Z....hmmmm I THINK SO... hehe he's probably sick of the small screen and wants the big screen with the 4 inputs i personally have a DS2072A, fucking awesome, i've had it for 5 years, at the time of buying it , it was a choice between the DS1052E and the DS2072A the difference in price being like $800 or $1,100 i took the more expensive AND BETTER option, didn't regret it one bit but that sux that you just bougth a DS1000E series and the 1054Z had come out did you end up getting rid of it or returning it.. or what ?

Gave up when he got to the PSU - no way I'd buy this. CapXon? Are they serious? When the DS1052E used Nichicon? Talk about a major downgrade... pathetic. I've replaced a lot of CapXon capacitors, mostly in LCD monitors and PC PSUs, because they were all blown! CapXon are absolute garbage and their 105 degree rating is some kind of joke. Then it gets better: the CapXon HP primary - that series has a history of failing (sometimes even shorted) and destroying the hot side of the PSU. No wonder the thing's so cheap! Forget it...

'3904's in the signal path of a scope front-end? AND it actually works out to 100Mhz? I certainly wouldn't have called that, but I suppose I shouldn't be that surprised. FM broadcast radio goes from 88-108Mhz, and you can build a perfectly useable FM radio using pretty much a single JFET, a bunch of 2n3904/3906 transistors (around 7 i think?), and a pile of passives. Well, at least it certainly makes finding replacement parts for the front end a bunch easier, if something unfortunate does happen to them.

At 399 it's a pretty nice scope. I browsed around a bit around European webshops and (well apart from the fact they're all not in stock), the prices have HUGE differences in them. I saw them as low as €360 and as high at €699 for the exact same scope with the same accessories. Definitely pays off to look around before you purchase this oscilloscope in Europe.

Maybe the dig potentiometers and the quad opamp placed on the same layer are for the trigger... I was thinking to buy one and modify it at will for some personal extended functionalities. The cost is the reason why this one instead of a big 2GHz/40GSps! BTW, what do you think of the DS1074Z, so a bit more bandwidth and above all the logic analyzer part? The code generator for the DS1000Z (non-MSO, non-S) has been out for something like a year and the DS1054Z uses the same codes. The analog front-end has over 120MHz of input bandwidth, which means you cannot trust this scope for accurate waveforms when using three or four channels if your input may have content beyond fs/2 due to sampling aliasing.

ARM9 at 454Mhz?, that's not a beast, that's 2003 vintage obsolete CPU architecture(ARM v5), try OLDER than "iphone 1"(which is armv6) vintage.... not even dual core!. For example the i.mx31 has a ARM11 core, this is even smaller! The minimum acceptable for this nowadays would be a Dual ARM cortex-A9 (Armv7) which would give an order of magnitude boost(more than twice the IPC per core, more than twice the clock), like the freescale i.mx6 dual!(albeit it costs 28$ in 1000u vs 7 for the shit imx28)

minimum acceptable? I don't know where you got that idea from, but in large qty. consumer product scenario, whatever meets the spec at the lowest price is the one you go with (especially when they're all readily available). And as others pointed out, considering all the hard work is done by the FPGA/ASIC and this processor would mostly be dealing with the UI, For this purpose, this proc. is indeed a beast/overkill to some degree.

Hi Dave, those Chinese characters are the colors of the cables that should go there (for the assembly) and I think they have been installed correctly, color corresponding to character so that's good!

Definitely a must-have scope, I have the DS1074Z-S since January, did some firmware updates and hacked it to 100MHz. Working fine (well, it still has some bugs, but can live with it) I am curious to Dave's in-depth review :-)

Hello! There was a question on buttons "Source". The model DS1054Z in this model does not have the Source button on the front panel, as I understood the button is, but it just is not displayed in the interface part. Is it possible to use a generator? (for example, output it) Logical analyzer button, but in this model there is no chip on the board from which it is responsible for this functionality

I must ask about temperuters, you guys who are happy enough too live in warmer than me who lives in Sweden. My small little hobby shed is placed in my basement which isn't heated during wintertime, how does these DSO coop with temperature variations? In the summertime it's about 10-15 degrees and in the winter it can drop below 0 degrees...

I think they use the resistors to enable/disable the logic analyzer and the signal generator functionality. Would be cool to mod it some way to add signal generator functionality. Any DS1000Z-S teardown?

Surprised to see some many TL07X op amps. I know they're inexpensive but you'd think the noise would be a little high but it sounds like they're not doing anything critical.

13:05 LoL sorry for all you bird people out there. As a representative of the community for equal rights for land challenged vertebrate or "bird people" as you announce, I would like to say that we no longer use that term. We accept the politically correct name of "Land Challenged Vertebrate" to not offend our feathered friends and to be more accepting of their challenges.

I'm dissapointed about the Crapxon capacitors, but I suppose to get that nice price you have to make sacrifices. Well, at least I have a lot of experience changing Capxon capacitors.

In another reply to a similar comment, Dave mentions that Rigol have no doubt done the proper engineering to use the capacitors properly. In the monitors I repair, that is obviously not the case. However, even they lasted a while. Time will tell.
@teardowndan5364
@teardowndan5364 10 жыл бұрын
The main reason capacitors fail is because they are under-spec'd. With the number of CapXon caps in the output filters and the meager 20-25W power draw including power supply losses, I seriously doubt those caps have enough AC current ripple on them or heat around them to kill them any time soon. CapXon might only last a year or two in a 300-400W PC PSU but in a 30W PSU with so many caps presumably in parallel, I would not be surprised if it lasted 10+ years.

Daniel Sauvageau That would be my guess too, likely not a problem. Rigol would know this and would care.
