I got caught a few years ago by foolishly buying a couple of those 'miracle' air-conditioning boxes that supposedly cool down a room in minutes for a virtually negligible expenditure of electricity. Once I received the items my own (limited) knowledge of electrical engineering told me that they were not just useless but highly dangerous. The UK importer/distributor in West London didn't respond to any correspondence (neither did the Scottish firm who processed the card payment) and my local Trading Standards office just 'made a note' of the fraud but did nothing else as far as I'm aware.

I'm a mechanic and have come across quite a few scams. The most common one was the "tornado" which was a fin installed between the intake tube and the throttle body. It was supposed to create a vortex that somehow increased air density? But the worst one was a 2 piece magnet a customer wanted me to install on his fuel line. I've seen quite a few of these over the years and most claim to remove "containments", but this one claimed to stretch the gasoline molecules so that you needed fewer to generate combustion!

it is materially impossible for a device connected to the OBD2 port to control fuelling and other parameters (eg. turbo pressure) in real time. You can remap VIA the OBD2 port but that is very very different indeed. The OBD2 protocol and other associated CANBUS protocols are for diagnostic and service functions. They are not real time protocols for the purposes of modifying the engines base and overlay maps during running.

I legitimately work on this stuff. Everything you said is practically correct but to expand on what you said, it's impossible to purchase anything that plugs into a CAN bus and auto learns like it claims. Each automobile manufacturer has individual ECUs that are specific to them, the car, and a number of other variables that are simply not released to anyone outside the company. Folks who reverse engineer an ECU are basically reverse engineering something called XCP. XCP is, essentially, a memory map inside the ECU where variables are stored and no two ECUs have the same memory map. There is no industry standard that states, for example, all auto manufacturers have to use some standard memory map. Hope this helps to squash the bullshit. Keep calling them out Dave!
@DFX2KX5 жыл бұрын
I was about to say "Wait, don't you have to replace the ECU with a programmable one? or at least remap the stock one? And can't leaning out the mixture damage the engine without other adjustments to accommodate??"
@Plexico415225 жыл бұрын
@@DFX2KX Leaning out a fuel mixture is pretty pointless and can be damaging. additional fuel economy by programming is usually achieved by cutting back on emission settings. limiting throttle plate action (example if you limit the throttle plate of a car to say 85% itll have reduced power but likely save you a bit of fuel. or limit it based on rpm say under 3000 rpm it only ever opens to 50%(most manufacturer does this to some extent)) another way is to adjust shift points in a automatic transmission because basically the more time spent in higher gears the less fuel the car will use. but also the less responsive it will be. pretty much all things that you can control while driving the car if you think about how far your pushing the gas peddle. now real reasons to reprogram a car would be if you added major performance parts like changing the cam or adding a super or turbo charger, you can disable some emissions things to gain more power. (which should only be done if its legal where you live) a big one for dodge is disabling the mds which in my opinion only really helps if your doing a lot of idling and disabling the limits on low rpm throttle action. this while it doesn't actually add any top end power. makes a car a lot more responsive.
@revealingfacts4all5 жыл бұрын

This is up there with the corrosion protection devices for cars that were being sold a few years ago. The claim is they worked by a mechanism along the lines of impressed (anodic or cathodic) protection. Downside is even if the device worked the vehicle would have to be fully submerged in water, which would make driving it tricky.

This device just started popping up on my Facebook feed. It reminds me of the magnets you were supposed to put on your fuel line going into your carburetor back in the day. They would "rearrange the molecular structure of the fuel" and increase your fuel economy!

O come on. Have some heart. I mean, how can an invention invented at it seems the same time by two DIFFERENT people ("James Dawson" as per 1st video, "Christian" as per 2nd video, with different credentials ("engineering student" vs "ex-programmer" who "worked in the ecology department ") and oil-company fiascos ("an oil company approached offering millions for the rights...big oil companies are fighting to sue it into oblivion" vs. no such offer + "sued by two big oil companies") and that ended up with the exact name and design and color NOT be magical? I mean, think of the odds of two inventing the same thing! Believe in magic. It's got to work man. Buy it! My guess is it got produced in parallel universes by 2 different youths; what's your guess? im confused because i plugged one of these into my 1996 chevy express van and it increased the time the fuel lasted for a good bit, almost double.. I dont know, maybe these actually work on really older cars or something? because ive actually tested it, driving to a destination a hour away and back, and without the eco thing i lost more fuel.. idk how else id have gained the fuel advantage unless these work in some capacity.. unless someone can explain why my fuel lasts longer with this in my van.. also tried out with my 2009 chevy silverado and the same thing.. the fuel increased.. but maybe its messing up my car or something?

@Panthera The automotive industry is insanely competitive. The various departments, engineering, styling, etc. are under intense pressure to gain a market advantage. Mileage is *SUPER* important to consumers, investors and governments alike. They would jump at the chance to be able to brag about a 4mpg advantage over the competition. Diptane? what's that cost? What does it do to O rings and seals? What by-products of combustion does it produce? Humbug. You can run a car off of water too, if you add prussic acid. A really, really bad idea, by the way.

Well I'm telling you guys right now, mine worked like a charm. Saved me about 10mpg, on a fill up; it was great 👍. I drive a Camry and I drove it around the country on about 2 1/2 tanks & then things faded out & I woke up to realize that I over slept & it was time to go to work.

But in the end the people are always the scammers themselves, driving some hundret kilos of useless plastics, scrap metal and atleast four empty seats around for some hundret meters and then spend money on bullshit to save gas, some of them even just to show that scam is scam, and not to forget about the gym, live like pigs and complain about the consquences, truly advanced society.

Fuel saver scams are as old as cars. I remember seeing ads for mail-order plans for a "100mpg water carburetor" and other secrets that "big oil doesn't want you to see" in the back of magazines as a kid. There's no way a simple universal plug-in device could change engine parameters. A custom firmware tune can do it, like you said, but the manufacturers constantly change the factory-installed firmware, so universal devices are categorically impossible.

Well my friend, I have 2 older ones with re-set button on outisde, THEY WORK!!! consider myself well experienced, 50 years mechanical, auto sales ect... own a 2003 Yukon Denali... I measure my gas consumption as you should: fill tank, drive milage, fill again on same gas station,, gives you e x a c t milage! My yukon used for several years 30 liters to 35 liters per 100 km!!!! Had my Eco installed but not re-set for years, nothing changed, then I re-set it and what do you know? I now uses exactly 21 liter per 100km..checked it many times, still 21liters, a big difference!!! So, purchased 2 new ones like you show, they dont work as you said... the old one DOES WORK!!!!

Hey Dave. I opened one and it only connected to the power and ground pins. It had 3 leds. Two that were only hooked to power through current limit resistors and the 3rd that went to a two transistor monostable blinker circuit. The reset button just stopped the monostable for a second. The markings on the side of the device was "Ultra Fuel Saver"
