Eevee is also great if you're using Blender as a modeling tool for game assets for example, it's close to what you'll get from the game engine anyway since any real time engine will be using similar tricks to fake global illumination, transparency, shadows etc.

@@OllAxe certain games, not all games in general
@OllAxe3 жыл бұрын
@@denierdev9723 I didn't say "all games". It was a generalization. Nearly all modern 3D games use rasterization because it's very fast and it's what modern GPUs are optimized for. Even RTX-games use rasterization as part of their rendering pipeline, because path-tracing a scene in real-time on consumer hardware with reasonable speed and quality is still unrealistic (even on the most high-end RTX cards), though combining noisy ray-traced lighting data with rasterized rendering methods and a good denoiser can get very close
@denierdev97233 жыл бұрын
@@OllAxe Could you give examples of such games?
@OllAxe3 жыл бұрын
@@denierdev9723 I can, but I don't really see the point, since rasterization is the foundation of real-time 3D computer graphics. Instead, check out the first 20-30 minutes or so of nvidias RTX launch event, which has some great info on rasterization vs ray-tracing and how RTX implements a hybrid of the two. I also know there's a presentation from DICE about the rendering pipeline of Battlefield V and their implementation of RTX. There's an example! Some more if you need them are Minecraft, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Portal 2, any game made in a commercial game engine such as Unity or Unreal, I could go on for a ridiculous amount of time. Even Teardown uses rasterization as part of its rendering pipeline, a game with its very own non-RTX ray-tracing implementation. Either way, there probably are some very specific games that don't use rasterization for one reason or another (simple ray-tracing demos or games that implement non-euclidian geometry for example) but they're the exception and that's my point. Not utilizing rasterization in your real-time rendering pipeline is leaving preformance on the table, therefore all modern commercial games do, and RTX does too, as Jensen Huang states during the RTX launch event. And as someone who's studying advanced computer graphics and shader programming right now, I can with confidence that he's completely right.

I am not sure if I understood you guys right, but doing lookdev approximation in Eevee and switching over to another renderer later on is by no means the correct approach. You can perhaps do it for personal hobby projects if you don't care about realism, but once you enter a production environment or have to match realism, then you wouldn't want to switch between render engines. The differences in rasterization and path tracing are enormous and you would have to redo the majority of your shaders and ligthing from scratch. What initially seemed like a shortcut, would just come back and bite you in the butt in the other end. The lookdev should ALWAYS be done in the renderer you finalize your shot in. It doesn't matter if its Eevee or Cycles, but switching between them won't save you any time. Atleast not if you work towards a realistic look.

something like E-cycles is significantly faster than normal Cycles that Blender comes with, so as someone else mentioned in the replies, saving the money on more expensive graphic cards and other pricey renderers, you can speed up the already decent rendering speed in Cycles by investing in solutions like these. And the creator of E-Cycles has said that some of his patches will be submitted to the main Blender team in 2020 to integrate into main Blender branch (or trunk in this case) which shall essentially make Cycles faster for everyone! More so, when RTX cards become a lot cheaper in the future, users can shift from CUDA to Optix and get even faster results, it's already being demonstrated.

I really want to have the Cycles rendered image as Wallpaper.
@scottlee385 жыл бұрын
I will be building a youtube channel after i finish coding an addon to address so many misconception about Blender.. Lol In a nutshell. Cycles is king. It has photorealistic features that people don't even know about yet. Very few engines can output the power of cycles with a small input.

Cycles is really fantastic! We're so impressed with it.

@@FlippedNormals Do you guys use photoshop with your pipeline? If not. Definitely give it a go. Cycles and Photoshop are like Bro and Sis

scott lee what photorealistic features are you talking about?
@scottlee385 жыл бұрын
@@leecaste So the way cycles mix nodes work are like photoshop. I won't give too much away, but if you apply your texture maps to your shaders the same way you use "blend modes" in photoshop, you can get detail that syncs perfectly with any organic textures on your object!

I like eevee. There are issues with light leaks. When i did the light saber the red light is getting everywhere but it looks good in this case. But what's annoying is that the boarders gwts leaks as well.
@GaryParris5 жыл бұрын
watch Andrew Price's (blender GURU) and others who have talked about the light leak and show you how to resolve that and there are multiple ways out there to tweak EEVEE and cycles, dont assume until you go look for the solution, it could already be out there. i think this is where the difference comes with these video's it can miss things other blender people already are aware of and/or know how to tweak and change things.
@AIRpursuit5 жыл бұрын
@@GaryParris I did watch Blender Guru and I did not assume.......look at the comparison of the two images in this video. Look at the tip of the light saber, where the red light is. In cycles, the light is contained within the cylinder where as in eevee, the cylinder glows red. I modeled and rendered this myself with the right settings and the same result comes out. The glow works in this case as it adds some drama to it but this is the issue of eevee render.
@GaryParris5 жыл бұрын
@@AIRpursuit that's good you checked that out, not everyone does, I've seen a couple of videos including Andrews, there are definitely others finding ways, that's just a general tip for anyone coming to blender following videos on 2.80 re: my reference to assumption, apologies if it came across as I was singling you out. I can't remember the others I watched who addressed this issue. 🤔 I'll post it if see it again.

increase sample count(will dramatically increase render times) and/or go to compositor and add a denoising node. for even better results turn on denoising data and plug the extra thing in.
