@EpicJasonX90003 жыл бұрын
A) that wont happen since it lost money. B) why would we want films to be dumber & even more ridiculous? when you force a sequel to an already funny movie, you get unfunny garbage like Dumb & Dumber To & Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. comedy films rarely ever make good sequels, and even fewer manage to be better than the 1st film. and C) any good bad film that is in on the joke, ruins the point of what makes it a good bad movie. it defeats the purpose. it's the cluelessness of the director that makes it funny, that's the appeal. case in point: The Room, Troll 2, Birdemic, Suburban Sasquatch, The Amazing Bulk, or hell any Neil Breen film. when you go out of your way to make a good bad film, you get Sharknado, and that dumb pile of garbage had numerous sequels. the mystery of James Wan's intentions is what keeps this movie relevant for the time being, we shouldn't ruin it by asking for a sequel. like a lighting in a bottle, it never strikes twice.
@cinnamonplays14483 жыл бұрын
@@EpicJasonX9000 IF James Wan was genuinely trying to make a good horror flick, then the second one could be just as funny bad, like the resident evil movies, they believed they were making cool action zombie films each time, so each time they created a great funny bad movie, excluding the 3rd and to a degree the first one. If James Wan is dumb enough to think his writing was good in this movie, and carries that confidence to a sequel, it has a good chance of being hilarious.
@EpicJasonX90003 жыл бұрын
@@cinnamonplays1448 and that's what confuses me: what was his intentions. say what you will about Halloween Kills, at the very least that movie had a consistent tone. Malignant is just too silly to be taken seriously, it's too reserved to be a straight up action movie, and the intentions behind James Wan makes it difficult to judge. if it was meant to be a parody, then I think it has failed. which is why you need the "I meant it to be a serious film" approach in order to make the parody work. the way a movie is supposed to be considered as a good bad movie is if the director, like Tommy Wiseu & Neil Breen, weren't in on the joke. it's sad that I have to explain these things and get some rather dismissive and condescending comments from other people in a community that should be above this sort of thing.

@@EpicJasonX9000 Its a gamble I know, on one hand we get James Wan trying to purposefully create the funny bad and we get boring drag of a movie, but on the other hand we get another funny cancer tumor superhero movie. I'm willing to possibly waste 2 hours of my time for the chance at another hilarious sequel, personally I'm with Fringy in that he was trying to create a well written, scary horror film but just failed miserably. Also idk if you were referring to me being "dismissive and condescending," but its the internet so I wouldn't have such high standards for other people online, but maybe that's just cause I have a bad habit of expecting the worst out of people

Part of the reason for the spatial-differences ("TARDIS effect") in the buildings/fog-mist everywhere/occasionally-wonky-colors and plot elements doubling-back-on-themselves is that (apparently) James Wan wanted to create a homage to Italian horror/giallo movies. Few of which ever make proper sense and rely on "dream-logic". When you look at some of the Fulci movies, that seems legit. None-the-less, despite liking Dead Silence by Wan, I'm glad I didn't sit through the non EFAP version of this film, and to the credit of The Faptastic Lads, this was easily as entertaining as Best of the Worst. Fun fact: The crazy underground segment seems to be based on an actual portion of Seattle that was built on top of older segments because they were regarded as a fire hazard. So they built large stone structures around the old buildings and built on top of the old structures. You can tour some of the better kept areas while others are in severe disrepair and are extremely dangerous.

Magical electricity manipulation? Never explained Complete ligament damage from reversing a persons joint functions? Intentionally ignored 10 story tall gothic style building? Left abandoned for multiple decades Blond woman seems literally random until half way through where we learn she's the protagonists sister. Surgeon-lady called conjoined twin a "cancer" as a red herring at the start of the movie but also makes Surgeon-lady look really negligent and callous towards a patient in retrospect. Multiple people moving into arms reach to use firearms. Including a cop that literally stuck arms throw prison bars to shoot at someone. This film has a 6.3 on both Metacritic and IMDB. No where is the movie listed as a parody. Considering James Wans previous works, like Aquaman, Insidious, Saw, I feel safe in assuming its just hot garbage. The movie may have cost 40 million dollars to make but the real lose is my faith in humanity.

@@loyal-tf-fan couldn't agree more. they mostly go with the rinse & repeat mentality by just repeating what everybody else has said, which leaves out a lot of interpretations and/or details in some films that some may have missed or overlooked. since we talked about the Halloween films, a good example of this is the whole multiple timelines mentality, where they claim it as a choose your own adventure franchise. and I don't really see it that way since it makes things too confusing. which is why I actually took a deeper look at the franchise and came down to just 2 timelines in order to actually have it make sense and allow 2 consistent continuities from the main series that most fans, even die hard ones, could at least agree with.
@loyal-tf-fan3 жыл бұрын
@@EpicJasonX9000 I’m going to assume their casual fans who’ve never tried to catalog and organize all this crap. As a Transformers fan I’m fine with multiple timelines/universes as they mainly keep to themselves and avoid “universe hoping” to the point they retcon a character (Unicron) being a multi-dimensional being. Since it’s also a toy franchise, Hasbro does have nice cataloging in order to make it easier on collectors, which then goes to my point about how organizing all this stuff can just turn off casual to hardcore conversion, thus hindering a hardcore fanbase. So to sum up, I don’t have a problem with multiple universes in a franchise but I have a feeling we are going to get a lot of bad examples of how to handle it with the cinematic side of Marvel and DC diving into it.
@EpicJasonX90003 жыл бұрын
@@loyal-tf-fan oh yes, and I tend to prefer the Burton films. the only time I can safely say that continuity in the DC universe has been handled properly in terms of adaptations were the animated shows from the 90's & early 2000's. a lot of films in recent years has ruined the whole multiple timelines angle, especially with Terminator Genisys. from 2 onwards, it all goes downhill from there. the only sequel I tend to defend when it comes to Terminator is Salvation since it finally did it's own thing and didn't copy & paste the same exact plot & structure for the 3rd time in a row. which is despite my stance on Salvation, I would argue that only The Terminator, the original film, is the only one that holds up the strongest. it's a perfect stand alone movie. same thing with Alien.

This movie has the same major flaw Aquaman has in that it really is a Frankenstein’s monster: there’s just so much misshaped shit stitched together in this movie. It works generally better here since A) it sticks to just being horror (as opposed to Aquaman which changed genres every 30 minutes) and B) there were some decent shots within the movie. It was REALLY fun to laugh at (especially with you guys), but it’s functionally broken.

except it all falls apart when you consider the intention and the inconsistent tone this movie had. it's too silly to be considered a genuine horror film, and it's too restrained to even being called an action movie. if it was supposed to be this way on purpose, then I think it makes it worse as a film to be honest. if you want an example of James Wan making a horror film that at the very least stayed consistent with it's tone and still did a commendable job, go watch the original Saw.

@@dodojesus4529 yes it can, especially if the parody is badly executed. in this case, the parody angle doesn't work if it was intentional, especially if you're looking at it as a good bad movie. the whole good bad movie appeal is based on the director not being in on the joke. because it would fail in that regard because A) it defeats the point of it even being considered a good bad movie and B) it would feel too crafted. regardless on their recent opinions as of late, they have mentioned this many, many, many times. if Tommy Wiseu intentionally went out of his way to make The Room a parody, then it wouldn't of been funny nor would it have the same impact. what makes a movie like The Room a good bad movie, is that it's funny BECAUSE it's bad.

Birdemic would be the example. that's why we love good bad movies, that's the appeal. so, the real way you should enjoy this movie is if it was unintentional.

@@EpicJasonX9000 nah cause if it wasnt intentional then it would be worse because they would legitimately be trying to take this shit seriously, and its not bad enough to be enjoyable ironically (as is the case for birdemic). But if its intentional then the things that don't makes sense don't make sense because its a joke. The sharknado films suck (despite being intentionally bad) because the comedy in them isnt very good and they still arent terrible enough to be ironically bad. Take the scene with the hookers in jail. Why is there a 70's leopard print giant afro hooker? Because its so out of left field. (kind of like the sight gags in parody films).
