I used to install drop-down ceilings and there were times I had to shoot the support wires into concrete slabs above our head and I used a device that was loaded with cartridges that were essentially 22. rounds. Resident Evil: The Final Retcon would be a more appropriate title because… what is actually consistent through this whole franchise, beyond Alice’s goddess status? From memory, we first have Jorah being upgraded from lowly scientist guy to one of the leading board members of Umbrella. Why? Well because Ian Glen went and got himself all popular on Game of Thrones, silly, so they had to capitalise on that fame while it lasted. Then we have Wesker going from Alice’s dubious ally to “betraying” her in DC meaning Alice had to leave the city. Why? Well because the Red Queen is now played by Paul and Mia’s daughter which means she’s the good guy of course, silly, which also contradicts the earlier claim the Red Queen was based on Angie Ashford but consistency, what’s that??? Then there’s Alice’s adoptive daughter going to live with Chris, Claire and K Mart in Whocaresville because they’re not important for the story, only Alice matters, silly! Then there’s Alice being special because of her superpowers or whatever because she’s the original and Umbrella can’t clone her, but nope, the original Alice was one of Jorah’s fellow shareholders, meaning there should be nothing special about Alice at all, right? It’s like the movie expects you to remember things, vaguely remember other things and forget other things ALL AT THE SAME TIME! There isn’t even an attempt at consistency here, and if Paul was ever trying to write real scripts for these movies, this was when he just completely gave up and devolved into unadulterated FanFiction of his wife. I’d say that was fine so long as they’re happy, but a stunt double lost their life while filming this movie. Nothing about this was worth a person’s LIFE.

Concerning how the last movie turned out with certain characters missing. In short, contractual problems and they pissed off a bunch of them. Probably the weirdest and worst part of Wesker's death is how I genuinely don't think it would've caught an average person, much less a supersoldier that has reflexes to dodge bullets and speed that basically lets him teleport over short distances (and that's putting aside a healing factor that lets him survive getting the contents of his skull blown out the back of his head). Seriously, I think a normal person would just jump/flinch forward slightly, and then be perfectly safe. Wesker had to not only stay in place, but then A) drop to the ground like a clumsy moron yet stay in the exact same location as he'd been standing B) stick his leg out like an even clumsier moron and C) not pull his leg in. And y'know what also might've been handy? If he had some sort of healing ability that let him restore himself from otherwise fatal damage if he had somebody nearby to eat...like Alice in old man makeup, sitting right near him, and gloating about how she's responsible for his death. Seriously, was the ending rewritten because Paul WS Anderson wanted to do more with Ian Glenn? Because having him just get squished as a result of corporate layoffs in a ripoff of the Robocop ending followed by Wesker fighting Alice and then dying to her and Red Queen-assisted defenses working together actually makes sense and sounds like the start of a decent idea. ...wait, nevermind. It sounds like the start of a decent idea. All of the movies up until now, not to mention Ruby Rose being her, should have told me that anything described as 'the start of a decent idea' has no place in this film.

It genuinely makes me wonder what the point of bringing Wesker back for this film was (game references aside due to most people who would recognize him knowing the films have nothing in common). If you wrote him as dying along with everyone else at the White House and just left all the evil-man stuff to Scientist and his Clone, nothing about the plot changes and it arguably becomes (comparatively) more coherent.

It also says Wesker survives this so make of that what you will.

I know there are sometimes entries in series that aren’t as good as others and people say you should skip some but Retribution is the first example of where it’s REQUIRED to skip it to have a better experience. Really, if you just start off from Afterlife and assume some tisms happened in between the boat getting destroyed and The Final Retcon, everything lines up SO much more than Retributon’s story where Wesker tried to save Alice from the Red Queen only to betray her because the RQ was actually the good one? It’s not just that it doesn’t make sense, it’s that Retribution has no point BUT as buildup to The Final Chapter, so when that payoff isn’t there, the whole movie is rendered pointless as a result. Again, plenty of movies have bad entries but all of them have a point even within bad series and bad stories but Retribution stands out to me as the only example of a movie that you could cut and gain in writing quality. I don’t know how Paul accomplished this but by god he found a way.

I still remember going to see this movie and immanently being confused then pulling out my phone to make sure I didn't miss a movie, this one felt like two movies squashed into one with how fast it goes on top of skipping one. Also got to love the fact they recycle the plot of the second movie with Alice now having Angie's backstory.

At least this film had my favorite game character: Dr. James Marcus. Too bad he doesn't get to become The Leech Queen and get his revenge though. Don't know if anyone knows this or not, but the original draft of Afterlife had Albert Wesker become The Leech Queen. Leeches are the reason he was revived after the Osprey crashed into the Himalayan Mountains.

Rags' explaining the series felt longer than it actually was, it was hilarious. Still amazes me how little ANY of the set up Rags gave actually mattered for this film. Regarding the "Why aren’t they wearing any armor against zombie bites." thing. I always love to mention, “Train to Busan” this random South-Korean zombie horror movie with a comparatively small budget did that better than the massive Resident Evil movie productions. XD I think they tape thick layers of sports magazines to their forearms and use those as shields.

so i was never a "just edit faster it's not that hard lmao" type but I must have, deep down, not actually believed it was that hard because HOLY SHIT i just had to put together a ten minute video and all the footage was already shot. I just had to add transitions and re-record some audio and it's taken me hours just to get a few minutes done. it looks like ass, it sounds like ass. this is mostly just a comment to vent about something new I'm trying to do, but, to MauLer, Meme Repository, and others who edit EFAP material; as well as to all the content creators who do their own editing, just the biggest shout-out you guys are great and i hope i never have to get as good as y'all.
