At least Warhammer 40,000 takes existential threats to all humanity seriously. After Thanos everything should have changed. Humanity should've set aside their petty differences to work towards nothing but planetary defense. Every bit of technology and magic secreted away by Tony Stark, Wakanda, Kamar-Taj, Ant-Man and whoever else should've been forcefully seized and widely distributed by any speedy means. But no, comic books must always take place in the modern day, no matter how many world-shattering events happen on a monthly basis nothing is allowed to change, ever, and when too many significant events build up to ignore, just restart everything from scratch! Comic books would rather throw away entire universes than progress the story in any permanent fashion. The MCU has simply caught up to where comics have been for as long as I can remember. Loathe as I am to admit it, eternally static stories like those in comics do have a place in society and they could've maintained that place if they hadn't decided to start changing characters into "better people" while keeping the status quo constant. Either allow change or deny it, doing both will not get one to that eternally-distant oasis called "the wider audience".

You know, going back to what you said at the start of your reply, it made me remember the Infinity Conez ice cream shop gag from... I think it was Love and Thunder? It's a dumb little scene taken on its own, but it's a pretty obvious symptom when taken in the context of this deeper issue that nothing is really treated with any degree of gravitas any longer. Thanos at one point wiped out half of all life in the universe, untold trillions of lives ended in an instant, countless additional people no doubt died in the aftermath or were traumatized for life by the loss of loved ones... And shortly after all this they open a tongue-in-cheek ice cream joint referencing this horrific genocide like no big deal because hey everyone's fine now. I can't imagine the response would be the same if you went to the former USSR and opened a gulag-themed soup restaurant, but this is happy silly funny comic book land where nothing has consequences or matters anymore, so there's no stakes. No reason to care or get invested. @1630

It stuns me the lack of agency Loki has at all times in both of these seasons. Loki, of literally all the characters in the MCU, would display the most agency. He doesn’t really care about the goals of other people (especially at this point), and even if his goals aligned he would be the one to mess with them or even sacrifice that for a good laugh. Meanwhile this husk constantly stands in the background of scenes, reaching out and looking like he wants to act but just refusing to lift a finger. Why does this show even exist if they don’t want to use the fun/interesting parts of Loki.

It addressed the "Loki in an alternate TVA" question by revealing he's in the past - and allowed the present day storyline to continue by having him Time Slip. Also, anyone who likes concepts like that is going to enjoy it. Also, the recording with Kang and Ravonna hinted at a larger mystery box, as well as Loki Time Slipping to the future and the mystery of who pruned him - and the possibility that it's a scene from a future episode. Never underestimate the power of mysteries, answers, and new concepts.

When Kang talked about him first discovering the ability to travel between dimensions and timelines, I - I think quite reasonably - predicted a scientist in the far off future many millennia ahead of our technological progress and capable of discovering that kind of tech which isn’t fathomable to us in the 21st century. …Is this episode seriously trying to say that in a time where literacy wasn’t even universal yet that this random scientist man pioneered technology that the rest of the planet would not be capable of even prototyping for THOUSANDS of years to come because he found a guidebook when he was a child? I… I genuinely feel insulted from how stupid that plot point is. I didn’t spend a penny on this and I still feel like I want a refund. 😑

It is like sending a tutorial for building your own gaming PC to the 1960 and expecting them to go "ah, so if I plug in the CPU like this, attach the cables to the nVidia 4080 GPU and the make sure the motherboard is compatible, I can run Crysis at max settings." Ignoring the fact that they need a billion dollar of infrastructure just to start imagining how to create the chips that are used in the machine to create the CPU.
@Longshanks169011 ай бұрын
@@slaapt Nah, it’s significantly worse than that. In the 60s, computers already existed and were on their way to being something commercially available. I think the idea of video games would be perfectly plausible to someone back then and a mega genius would be able to conceptualise what this Gaming PC is no problem. The scale of the technology we’re talking about here is not realistically present for thousands of years because we literally have nothing close to it expect in fantasy/SciFi media. This is like dropping a PSP manual in the Iron Age and someone somehow makes a rudimentary version of a one with the tech available then. The stupidity of what’s being suggested here actually can’t be properly fathomed it’s so mind boggling.

Mentioned it in my own comment, but I specifically genuinely remember the explanation being that he was from the 22nd century, not the 19th. Really weird how very specifically they placed it back a century instead. Edit: I can't believe I didn't google it before, but it's such an incredibly massive and weird change. The prospect is that He Who Remains is the last one of many Kangs who somehow got on top. Almost all of which are implied to just as him be born in the 31ST century. So why is there a Kang in 1893 even on an alternate timeline??? Even if it's not the sacred timeline, there's absolutely no reason why there should be any branch that has him there.

Wait, I thought the threat of Kang was that he would eventually discover time travel, no matter what, and every branch had one. Why do they need to give the Kang Variant a TVA handbook? If they didn't give it to him, would he not invent time travel? If he doesn't, how do the others?

So Kang (a blackman) in the late 1800's (racism is still a thing) makes an omnipresent clock with the voice of a southern white woman (the south where they fought to keep slaves) and this clock is madly in love with him. Kang also hooked up with Ant man's mother in law (also a white woman). Is Disney setting up that Kang wants to destroy the universe because of his interracial fetish? Doesn't pair well with Jonathan Major's domestic violence allegations. What did Disney mean by this?
@Zephyr50311 ай бұрын
I thought Kang was from the 26th century. What does it mean to be a 'variant' of someone if you weren't born at the same time, to the same parents? Is Indiana Jones a 'variant' of Han Solo now? It's a lot easier to imagine a 26th-century man creating the TVA than this Nikola Tesla pastiche.
@preemptiveheat825410 ай бұрын
Being a "variant" is pretty pointless when they don't say what is or isn't a variant. It's easy enough in concept I think, but they dropped the ball so hard in representing them by making all the Loki variants be different races, sexes, and even a different species. And now you can be a variant at a different time. So now everyone else is just as much a variant to each other as they are to themselves

I'm honestly annoyed at the whole Kang thing. Because it's like someone accidentally said "he was born 1 century BEFORE the MCU" when the series I'm pretty sure stated he was from the 22nd century. Now sure that raises questions, but it's far more logical that he'd be someone that existed after most of the regular MCU timeline.

What is going on with Miss Minutes? The entire first season I assumed she was some personification of the TVA computer in that building... Is she not made of light? I mean that is what the effect seemed to indicate. But now she has like a physical form? Where did that come from? Why would the TVA have it work that way? Or is she not an invention of the TVA now? Did she just decide to join up because she was already an eldritch being in the form of a clock and thought that fit with the theme the TVA was going for? Why is this show so dumb?
