@@SailingJoy Hola Ed, going with the square top main, self tacking jib, and a gennaker from Incidence Sails. May wait to decide about a code 0. Will be sailing the new Lagoon 46 in Maine and the rest of the east coast if we can get the boat shipped in June 2022. If not, I am enjoying you videos from Espana!

Awesome set up Briggs. I really enjoy the gennaker from incidence, it made the difference for us ! Used it on a very wide range of angles all the way to almost 160 degrees. We just got our code zero and it will help us next season with low wind days in the Med. I will let you know how it goes. I am here for You if you need anything in terms of questions about your new boat ! Congrats on the new boat , I think you will really enjoy it. Best Ed

Well explained decisions for option choices. Being self sufficient on water away from land requires many things. After watching countless Sailing videos and not having Sailed, I’d probably want to Charter a trip to see how I liked it first. A Sail Boat is viewed as a Structurally built Craft with added functions to offer self sufficiency. It’s very obvious they require continuous maintenance inside and out. Strictly followed Preventive Maintenance routines are vital. There appear to be many unassuming to attend to. Hence carrying spare parts and tools are required. Evolving developments in technologies pushes the need for Electric power even to elimination of needing a large generator. Over all weight effects speed especially when your live aboard is fitted for comfort. There are trade offs to maintain balance for all. Buying new or used along with how old is another question. What is the Half Life of a newly built Catamaran? Plus what is the determining factor for Half Life? If buying a 450, intense structural repair would be required while at the same time upgrading Systems and adding comfort features. Buying anything that creaks requires investigating where the noise is coming from. Don’t believe any boat is immune from possible problems.

@@SailingJoy Have Question? In Demasting video, it was mentioned looking into actual measuring for tension methods rather then accepting Rigging Worker to “feel” for proper tension. There should be Tension Gages available to make measurements. Best is an in-line gage but it may not be practical for this. Alternate types of Gages for measuring Tension would work but not be as accurate as an In-line Gage. Just my thought! What did you end up doing? Certainly, any Tension for positioning the Mast puts pressure on the Bulkheads. As the Boat structure yields to Tension, added forces during sailing encourage cracking of Bulkhead bonded areas to produce or increase creaking noises! Thus Creaking Noise is a valued sign of potential problems. Like using a Tension Gage, monitoring and/or determining level of Creaking can indicate structure integrity. It may be repair is necessary with all boats! Just my thoughts...!
@SailingJoy2 жыл бұрын
@@MartyDidier Hi Marty ! We did find out from friends that are sailing the Caribbean that they have used a gauge to measure their mast tension. We will do the same as we revise the rig soon. Agreed with all points mentioned. Thanks for taking the time and for been so caring with your message. Super appreciate. Best Ed
@MartyDidier2 жыл бұрын
@@SailingJoy Having an enjoyable conversation with you... Be careful with using gauges. Just because it’s called a gauge doesn’t mean it’s accurate for the application. The best and most accurate would be an in line tensile gauge, but considering the application it wouldn’t be practical. Inexpensive Tensile Gauges aren’t available as the environment would corrode it quickly. An alternate gauge of what you may be referring to would report tension but wouldn’t be as accurate as an in line. 👉The question is, does it matter? Maybe tensioning the Mast lines to a Ball Park rating is accepted? This brings up another point... 💥What are the force limits of the Bulkhead joints? The combined structure resulting forces with worst case Sailing forces is what breaks Bulkheads and Bonded Joints. Well demonstrated in 450’s and others. Two boat hulls will result in a lot of structural twisting while sailing. 👉So does accurate tensioning matter? It really depends, doesn’t it?

Do you have a list of all the factory options you ordered on your Lagoon 42 and are there any aftermarket items that you would install rather than buy them from the factory if you were doing it again (ex generator, water maker etc) Are there many items that would be considerably cheaper to have installed after delivery?
@SailingJoy4 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. I will look for that factory options for you. I am travelling this week but I believe I do have it on of my HDs. Do you want to send me an email on our channels contact email address and I reply to you, or you prefer for me to try to create a link where you can download and I put on the description of this video? Let me know. IN terms of the options installed after delivery it will be the same options we are getting for the L46 and I will publish a video in the next week or so about this subject and will include a downloadable list of evey possible item needed and the ones I picked for myself. What was the total price? Is the lagoon made in one place and transported out to the dealers or is it made in different locations?
@SailingJoy5 жыл бұрын
HI Daveybb ! The total price with all optionals was 730k euros but that will still fluctuated because we have until february 2020 to make any changes on the optionals. All L46 are made in the same place in France and then transported to Les Sables de Olonne, France (check out our first video where we took delivery of our first boat and you can see where it is and the launch). Then usually there is delivery cost depending on where you will want your vessel delivered, and that can vary a lot. In our case we will take delivery of our new L46 in Les Sables so no delivery costs for us. Check out upcoming videos where we will cover the rest of optionals from factory and talk about all the extras you need to have on the boat besides the ones you can order form Lagoon to have the boat ready to sail away. I hope I have answered all your questions! All the best, Ed
