I listened to this man in disbelief, and his complete bias views about the Russia/Ukraine conflict, and the "double standards" used by the EFF. Ukraine is a sovereign nation, which as an independent country can do what they wish to do (without consulting it's neighbours for their permission). The USSR (Russia) controlled this country by force for almost 45 year (since the end of WWII) and Ukraine finally got their freedom & independence sometime after the fall of the USSR 1991. Here is why Shivambu's remarks are contradictory (when compared with his party's own political views - I will SA as a comparison): Like the Ukrainians, South Africa (SA) was controlled and governed by an oppression regime (the apartheid regime), similarly Ukraine has been under the control by the USSR. We celebrated the end of our oppression in 1994 much like the Ukrainians did after 1991 after many once foreign nations split from the USSR. So, why does Shivambu not see this as EFF double-standards? Would he be okay if the old regime resumed here in SA? Obviously not, yet he speaks against a country that wants the same, their sovereignty (which they once had)...so why the EFF double standards? We have our sovereignty, why can't they have theirs? The EFF complains about the Donbas region, a region inside the Ukraine that is backed by Russian separatist that have been fighting Ukrainians since 2014 (maybe ever earlier) - this land belongs to Ukraine and is inside their country (this is similar to SA's own version of Donbas - Oranje, the tiny area where Afrikaners have stated they want their own independence. The EFF policy is critical towards this request stating that Oranje "belongs" to South Africa and they or the South African government cannot consider this a legitimate request by those people. So why the double-standards with Ukrainians demanding the same with the Donbas region which is part of their country?). The Donbas region has Russia's living there demanding their own sovereignty, in a part of the country that "belongs" to Ukraine (how is it that the EFF complains about Ukraine's refusal to hand-over a part of their country to Russian groups but refuse to see the similarity with Oranje, which they reject?...again, these are EFF double-standards). As for the "genocide" claims by Shivambu, where is the proof, he just accepts Russia's claims. Russia has made many claims about Ukraine e.g. "denazification" of the country, yet they have not provided a single shred of evidence for these claims. They also claim they want to "disarm" the country...based on the current situation in Ukraine it is evident that Ukrainian "arms" and not a threat to Russia and nowhere matches that of Russia. So what disarming is Russia talking about? This sounds more like Russia wanting the Ukrainians to be defenseless, so that Russia can at will force their opinions on a sovereign nation. What about the NATO issue? As I already stated, Ukraine is a sovereign nation who should have the right to "join" whom they will without interference from their neighbours. Besides NATO has many times turned down Ukraine's request to become a NATO member because of Russia's concerns. Okay, so what are Russia's concerns really? How does NATO fit into this? - Russia is one of the world's largest nuclear powers and they claim their concern is having a NATO "armed" country right next-door to them. Ukraine had nuclear weapons before the USSR split, but Ukraine turned these all over to Russia in the 1990's, so Ukraine presently has none. Again Russia assumes NATO will arm Ukraine with nuke's yet they make claims without evidence...if Ukraine had joined NATO and this was happening then it is understandable for their actions, but no proof exist to suggest this, so this is just Russian tactics to control another country. What about Ukraine's Western influenced policies? This is by far the biggest concern for Putin. Why? because Putin rules Russia as an autocrat and he fears that the Russian people living so close to a "democratic" country will get ideas about democratic life-styles and demand the same from their Russian government. All of what is currently happening against Ukraine has to do with the Russian people's possible future demands on their own country when they compare it to a westernised Ukraine. Putin has ruled as an autocrat for over 20 years and has no real political opposition and more than anything else wants this to be the status-quo in Russia...his worst fear is that this could change someday. This is surely the biggest "least obvious" reason for his aggression against a sovereign nation like Ukraine. After this war, which of Russia's other neighbours will be the next concern?...and if this war with Ukraine goes Putin's way, there will be others...For this reason the world needs to reject Putin's war on Ukraine, now. We as South African's wanted democracy for a long time and now that we have it, it is undoubtedly something we would not give up easily, yet it is disappointing seeing South African's like Shivambu who has this liberty, not wanting other's like the Ukrainians to have similar. South Africa's allegiance: Which ever way we look at this conflict between Russia & the Ukraine, Ukrainians are the under-dogs and Russia the bully (we have seen this happen before as with the USA & Iraq and the consequences of this bully tactics - much of the world condemned it then, as we should now do with Russia). Least we forget that it was not the help from the USSR in the days of apartheid that finally freed SA from it's oppression, but rather from western persistent sanctions. When we became a democracy, Mandela visited western nations for assistance & fund raising, not Russia or China. So it is unfortunate that the EFF claims to fight for things like liberty for the South African people but it's policies contradict this in many of their actions, and we see this first-hand now with their bias allegiance with Russia (who has never really done anything for SA - if you disagree, show me the proof otherwise?). South Africa should be on the side of righteousness, not political gain (the victors of the last 2 world wars proves that it is important to be on the side of righteousness).

Not the west but rather Russia, based on their fears of western ideologies like democracy spreading eastwards. That has always been Russia's fears since communism started, yet their ideologies they spread after WWII to include all of those countries that later got their independence after the USSR fell, these have always been Russia's double-standards. The bottom-line is, Putin fears westernization because it removes autocrat's being in power for as long they want to be, so this has nothing to do with the Russian people but rather dictatorship as that currently enjoyed by Putin.
