The best way to learn a musical instrument is not to focus on being the greatest or bestest player at the beginning session of your practice...... Just learn or practice because you genuinely love the sound of it and enjoy playing and not because you think it will make you look cool or stand out from the crowd.

Summary of tips in this video: 1. Practise slow and mindful 2. Keep it interesting 3. Practise hard parts first 4. Imagine 5. Process learning Great advice, that I've personally seen really benefit students in practice. Great video - thank you for making. P.S For anyone interested in the 10,000 hours 'rule' concept alluded to in this video - I HIGHLY recommend reading what K Anders Ericsson (the academic whose work was the basis for Gladwell's moniker) himself writes about it in his book Peak: How All Of Us Can Achieve Extraordinary things. It's pretty critical of the idea that Gladwell popularised.

What helped me at the very beginning was listening to songs I like the most and that sounded easy to play. I wrote all the notes down, one by one, since I couldn´t find music sheets for them. This way I already learned a bit the rythm and which notes I need to play. Starting with songs you like is very motivating.

I can sing, play some drums, piano, and a tiny bit of guitar, bass, conga and recorder. I do something with all of them every day, and 10 minutes is better than no minutes.

I personally just do it earlier. 10 minutes is better than zero. And keep a notebook: what I did, what I learned and time in a row on the side. The notebook helped and getting up earlier.

well, you have to practice slow too but you can not not play the thing you are working on fast as well because if you don't, you will try to walk really fast instead of running later, when you have to increase the tempo. different movements....

Im forced to play an instrument until the 11th grade, 2 years left. I probably chose one of the worst instruments, oboe. I dread online lessons so much i cant enjoy my weekends without worrying about my lesson next which is literally on tuesday. How do i get motivation to make the best of this? I cant just be like this for the next 2 years.

It seems like bodybuilders work out and then take selfies. They work out hard and get reward which is taking selfies, getting likes, looking their muscles etc. They work out satisfying their eyes get fame from their social media accounts everyday. And then get on a stage for their fame from satisfying other's eyes and making people jealous of themselves. Dogs just work for their rewards.
