Pigeons, like most domesticated animals, have the trait of returning home in the evening or during feeding time after being kept in one location for a week or two until they become accustomed to it as their home. It's not necessary to confine them to tiny cages from the time of their birth until their death, because they need exercise since they're creatures of the sky. I too used to keep pigeons. When they first arrived, I would lock them up for a few weeks, then release one, if it returned I could then release the others. They have never once caused me to worry about one going missing.

Pigeons, like most domesticated animals, have the trait of returning home in the evening or during feeding time after being kept in one location for sometime until they become accustomed to it as their home. They need to exercise and have active wings because they are AVIAN creatures designed to fly thousands of kilometers without stopping, so they don't need to be kept in small cages from birth until death. I too used to keep pigeons, when they first arrived, I would lock them up for a few weeks, then release one, if it returned I could then release the others. They have never once caused me to worry about one going missing. Unless they die naturally on the electric wire, I'm positive that they will all return to the same small cages to rest and roost as long as you feed them on a regular basis, and they won't even bother farmers and run the risk of becoming poisoned.
