Seven years ago, Michael Harris began helping B4U-ACT create a therapist referral program for Minor-Attracted-Persons (MAPs), seeking therapists equipped to work with MAPs without succumbing to falsehoods and commonly used labels. For the last six years, he has been helping develop and administer that list of therapists and referring nearly 250 MAPS yearly worldwide. The workshop explores some of the ways B4U-ACT's signatory therapists are screened, what qualities B4U-ACT looks for in a therapist, and effective methodologies for working with MAPs. It will consist of a 20-minute presentation followed by discussion with provided questions and small group activity. The desired outcome is to help those attending to 1) Consider what constitutes effective therapy, particularly with MAPs 2) Help those seeking therapy to better advocate for themselves and know what questions to ask a potential therapist. 3) Provide resources. It will be helpful to MAPs, their families and friends, and also to therapists, researchers, and advocates who want to learn more about Minor-Attracted-Persons.
Michael Harris works with B4U-ACT and oversees Indiana Voices, a NARSOL associated state group, and Crucible 21 Ministries, which seeks to use media to change mindsets.
