Great to hear, I have had a couple a goes at the guitar too. On previous attempts I started being able to play a few riffs with single strings but always came crashing down with chords - especially C. I feel like I have fat fingers (but that doesn't seem to stop many famous guitarists it seems) and so far a few weeks with a couple of sessions a day has not been enough to get a consistent C Chord but this time I'm determined to get it! I know im pretty late to this video, but I have just started guitar lessons, I have to admit this chord was causing me a lot of problems as my third finger kept killing the string below. My guitar teacher recomended pushing the string up slightly so that you only just touch the thickest string. This kills the sound of the thickest string incase you accidently strum it and also lifts your finger that little bit heigher so you no longer touch the string below. I hope it helps someone :)

Soooo, I’m an only child and my dad has worked for Fender for 26 years now, therefore I have a ridiculous amount of guitars for someone who doesn’t play. He plays quite a bit but was never taught “correctly” as he says, since he just learned from watching a friend play in his 20s. There’s been so many times he’s tried to teach me to play but every time I get to the C cord I struggle and I mean I struggle bad. I have tiny hands and fingers and it’s just so damn hard for me, I’ve given up every time because of it. I’ve been practicing again since being home for COVID using the Fender Play app but that C cord got me again and they don’t really go in-depth about it on the app. Well I finally pushed through the frustration and I can now play a C with confidence. Your video was the BIGGGGGEST help out of all the videos I watched so thank you! Gonna surprise my dad soon and show him I finally learned and now we can jam together! Just thought I’d let you know even though this video is 2 years old. Hopefully you see it or someone else with a similar issue comes across my comment and pushes through cause it really did help me! Thanks again!!

I to have a Yamaha. I've been playing for about 18 months. I was at 6 months before I could play a "C" fluently. The Yamaha necks are a little bigger. I still can't mute the low E with my thumb. (Index will slightly touch high E) I had to learnt to adjust my strum angle to miss the big string. It can be done. Also recommend playing the G chord with middle, ring and pinky fingers, when learning. It make the G-C switch much easier.

I found it helpful to reposition the guitar neck including rotating the neck along the longitudinal axis while holding the chord to and find the least straining position on the wrist. Your video is great and is helping me a lot with the C Major chord. I bought an electric and acoustic in November of 2022. I am learning on the acoustic and apply what I learn on the electric. I am at the stage where I can make the C chord and nail it but am slow to transition from the other chords. When I am practicing chords it is not that hard to transition with a 4 bar timing. When I am trying to play a song like 'last kiss' by Pearl Jam is when I am slow to transition. I'm putting in the practice and I know it will come. I have one more hard chord to master after the C and that is the F chord. I will be looking for your videos. Thanks for posting.

Thank you! I was shown how to do the chord, and I got it ringing clearly. The issue was transitioning to it and away from it. I think I am pressing down too hard, my 3rd finger keeps semi muting the neighbor string; always frustrating since it seems I do no movements and it rings clear one at a time, but as a chord, it mutes and I can hear the muting when I play it again. I guess I'll just have to practice and get a better neck hold.

Hey there! Thank you for the lesson - tips, tricks and avoiding pitfalls. I am brand new (less than a month,) learning for personal reasons (no ambition to be a performer,) to challenge, stretch and work on the health of my brain. I have been attempting the C cord for several days and it sounds nothing like the "true" sound. I have my tuner so as to learn when I get it right, but I've been attempting for just about a week. I keep practicing the fingering, ensuring I am avoiding those beginner mistakes and such, but I'm feeling defeated as I'm not sounding any closer to the "C" as I was on day one. Most often times, when I strum (thumb, not pick,) with the fingering, the tuner picks up a "D." I haven't yet mastered placing all three on at once, but I'm at a loss as to how to move forward if I am doing all that I can, but have not yet mastered the 'C' chord. Does anyone with any experience have any suggestions?
