Glad you included all the classic techniques and not just the ones legal in IOC rules! Great job keeping traditional judo alive!

I think if your knees are on the mat (any of the knees) this is called seoi otoshi. I think in this video the seoi-nage is wrong. In seoi nage you remain standing on our feet.
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 2 жыл бұрын
You mean the technique that starts are 0:40 ? Yes, you are right, that clip comes from our 'Reverse Seoi-nage - Demo' its more of a modern variation that can be done standing or on the ground, in this case we simply called it seoi-nage, but it would be more correct to call it a seoi-otoshi in the way we performed it.

@@EfficientJudo yep, this is the one. Thanks for the video. Learned the names of the seoi otoshi variations and their names kata hiza and ryo hiza. For the japanese people this is really easy, but for us it is a quest 😅.

Aka "things that don't work, and also the uchi mata counter"
@EfficientJudo

Huh? Lots of scoring techniques here - variations on seoi, tai-otoshi, te-guruma and other leg attacks when the rules allowed.
@SeanWinters
@SeanWinters 2 жыл бұрын
@@EfficientJudo Yeah the first like 8 techniques though, straight up just pushing people down. Obviously the seois and tai otoshis are more than proven... But I've never seen an uki otoshi work. Ever. I do like the modified kata garuma though, very nice.
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 2 жыл бұрын
@@SeanWinters I disagree, a lot these 'just pushing people down' are valid techniques when the opponent off balances themselves - they often get fobbed off as 'oh, he threw himself' but fundamentally tori capitalizes on ukes off balance and finishes with the hands - uke wouldn't fall over without toris hand action. They're used more than people give them credit for.

What do you mean Mountain Storm
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 3 жыл бұрын
Most judo techniques are named based on the mechanics used, but a few have more poetic names, yama-arashi means mountain storm.

Yama arashi is like a big question. I really don't know what is the difference between yama arashi and a harai goshi. 🤔
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 5 жыл бұрын
Remember that Yama-arashi is a hand throw, Harai-goshi is a hip throw. The grip is slightly different, but importantly with Yama-arashi the movement of the hand gets uke moving and the leg is just to finish. There is no lifting with the hip like there is with Harai-goshi. Hope that helps.

For technique demonstration in judo it’s a collaborative work between tori and uke. Wouldn’t be a brilliant video without brilliant work of both.
@ilyassnejjar6195
@ilyassnejjar6195 5 жыл бұрын
@@hyperhippyhippo Both are good, but usually for demonstration purposes Uke does his own jumping movement and goes with the flow to make the technique look even nicer. Here it looks like he was entirely relying on Tori to throw him, and somehow his reflex was less than smooth. Not to take anything from the perfect executing though.
@hyperhippyhippo
@hyperhippyhippo 5 жыл бұрын
I’d hate to see the jumping. It makes the whole technique look theatrical. It’s not kata presentation. In my view there is a good balance and uke doesn’t distract from what’s being presented. Each to their own I guess
@EfficientJudo
@EfficientJudo 5 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree that uke should jump in any way. Judo is designed to work against resisting opponents, to have uke jump in the demo would discredit both the technique and the legitimacy of the instructor. A good uke for a demo should neither resist nor contribute to the throw, they should be at '0'.
