I feel like the point of Pinkie saying not to prank Fluttershy wasn't that Flutters is too special to be pranked. It's just the show's way of showing that Pinkie cares genuinely about her friends and to contrast the way Gilda treats them. Similar to her asking if Spike's ok. I don't agree with everything in your video, I love Flutters, love the sleepover episode, and find some points to be nitpicky. BUT I love the depth put into this retrospective and it did make me think of stuff regarding mlp that I hadn't before. Also even when I disagree your delivery's hilarious

weird thing but dang the early episodes made equestria feel really small, like compare how nightmare moon intrudes on a tiny ass gathering in a tiny ass town to literally any other major villain in the series going on the attack. she's surprisingly small potatoes for being literally the princess of the night.

Back when season two was airing a lot of people brought up how "small" the first season was, not just literally because it was confined to Ponyville, but the season 1 episodes almost always involved Twilight and one of the mane six, or the entire mane six in some way.

I think I can excuse the first season for feeling small. It was where the show was finding its footing and setting the stage. It’s okay for it to start off basic to ease people into it before it starts introducing them into its expanded world and lore.

14:30 I think that alot of them were left out, because, later into the series, its revealed that they were only there for the apple family reunion, and even later in, it's noted that not all the entire family tree was there, because granny smith implies this when she was shocked when applebloon announced that ALL of the family tree was going to be there, meaning that the first episode reunion was NOT including all the members.

Yes. It’s not that serious. But illfinger did bring up something valid. To my knowledge special treatment means unfairly giving someone an advantage over something because of bias and/or favoritism. That was Pinkie being considerate of Fluttershy, doesn’t seem to have anything to do with favoritism. Might be hard to differentiate in this situation, but I think it’s how the other pranks are that extreme but not taken seriously because of the fact they were going for slapstick that whole episode. Plus, that Pinkie refusing to prank Shy scene may have been trying to help drive home the difference between Pinkie and Gilda, and give us another reason to support Pinkie as she’s actually considerate of Fluttershy unlike Gilda.

u misunderstand twilight in look before you sleep. twilight is incredibly knowledgable at everything BUT friendship, she’s never had a slumber party with friends before and wants to do it correctly by the book, she isn’t being out of character. we know twilight is a perfectionist. and in terms of dragonshy, fluttershy didn’t WANT to go. they forced her! and then all her behaviour afterwards was not voluntary, it was uncontrollable anxiety. we even see her wings shutting which resembles people freezing from anxiety. she did nothing wrong.

The thing I love about the earlier episodes of MLP (and to be honest, never noticed much about it until I rewatched the season myself): Twilight never actually had much raw power, or intent to use her horn until Boast Busters and later seasons. She would be flipping books with hooves like an earth pony. And yet I still wonder why I used to think unicorns are overpowered when it's specifically stated that only with years of practice they can only master those like teleportation, transformation, levitating themselves and others🤣 I'm also looking forward to your retrospective on Winter Wrap Up, Sonic Rainboom, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Stare Master and Party Of One and all the other episodes in between.

The nitpicking is a little much, although not unbearable. With everything interesting there is to talk about in this series, I just don’t really care about a book spine facing different directions from one shot to the next or Spike having a pen & paper in one shot and them being gone in the next shot. Now narrative inconsistencies, plot holes, or even weird animation choices like Twilight’s carriage-pulling ponies galloping while flying mid-air are all interesting talking points! But pointing out every little detail that just isn’t perfectly executed gets very redundant. Otherwise, fantastic job!! Your delivery is really funny and entertaining, and I do like a lot of the points you made.

Musical numbers starting with Pinkie, then seeping into the general population makes sense if you follow the theory that Pinkie getting hold of Grogar's bell let her rewrite reality backwards and forwards in time. Pinkie WAS the only one to burst into song, until the ripple in time hit and everypony started doing it.

Fluttershy in dragonshy warned of danger of black clouds coming from mountain to town and how awful things could if ponies don't resolve it, but she didn't anticipated that she will be the one who will go fix this issue. She wasn't whining during whole trip and talking how steep mountain is and refuse to budge or jump or fly over. She was was very scared and was having anxiety panic attacks, which made even simple things 10x more scarier, harder and the anticipation to meet the scary grew stronger she started to think less and less rationally and make excuses to chicken out. Why she was suddenly brave when dragon came out and kicked ponies to the ground? Because they were in direct and immediate danger that kicked her out of her stupor and gained enough adrenaline and emotional rush to overcome her fear/shyness to protect her friends.

CMIIW but I’m pretty sure at the beginning of the series, teleporting was new to twilight, and she is clearly woozy after using it against NMM. And if she was exceptionally skilled with teleporting like later in the series, teleporting out of the darkness probably wouldn’t have worked because wouldn’t she need to envision another place of the forest to teleport to in order to teleport? She couldn’t see any lighter areas when in the dark, and the thrashing from Steven Magnet was probably obscuring the other side of the river and couldn’t see how far across it was. Also the bridge was foggy and she couldn’t see the other side, what if she misjudged the distance and teleported halfway across, and then fell? The cliff, I guess you could argue she was panicking and didn’t know how far down it was to stable ground or she couldn’t find a stable surface to teleport to in her line of sight.
