Bet you can't wait to get your hands on some 3 core & CAT 5 SWA cable 😂😂😂
@webluke2 жыл бұрын
One of the cooler cables I worked with was for an internet radio tower. It had a 16AWG dual core for 48VDC, a Cat-6 cable, and 8 fiber strands. The 48VDC powered equipment up on the tower, the fiber was the high capacity back hall, and the Cat-6 was a backup and management link. It was obscure to find for an obscure use with a high price. That EV cable is not used a lot but is more of a common thing now. I could see using the cable for an outbuilding and splitting the data Cat-5e from the power cables to have networking at the outbuilding all in one go.

But... I was always taught to run Data cable separate to power 🤔
@mrbadger99205 жыл бұрын
The power cable is double insulated from data by the inner sheath and insulation so that ticks the safety box I guess the data cable within is screened so interference isn't an issue. Better segregation than you get in pvc dado trunking. I can't see many uses for it unless you have a direct buried run as it will be awkward to terminate and connect back at your router end.

@@mrbadger9920 The impression I get from whatching electricians on youtube is while it could be used for Data, it's more often used for current transformer hookups.

Loved watching this compared with the old cable manufacturing from the 1930s and 40s on the british Pathé channel... amazing how much has stayed the same vs changing! The lead covering has changed but the rest would be instantly recognizable to a historical worker from 80-90 yrs ago! I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it

Has cable got smaller over the last 20 years. As when I started I remembered that a 25 mm lug was tight now they seam to be loose
@efixx4 жыл бұрын
You might want to compare the weight of the lugs also. On serious note you can get higher purity copper which allows manufacturers to reduce the CSA - Or it may be a "fake" import and the manufacturer has shaved a bit off to save money - *BEWARE*

Great video again fellas. You should visit other manufacturers of electrical equipment such as consumer units, switches, socket outlets, pvc conduit, even MFTs and screwdrivers.. Cutters etc, The world's your lobster 😁 interesting stuff. I used to work for a company that has their own cables manufactured for atex approved CCTV equipment, it was very expensive. But it had multicore and rg59 coaxial cables, and data cables, alongside mains cables. Similar to this EV swa, but braided instead of armour. In fact Doncaster cables factory looked very similar to the place I worked lol.. Strange 😎
@efixx5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your detailed comment and yes we will be visiting other manufacturers and the next one is not in the U.K...
@NiKo-ig2td2 жыл бұрын
Question why is a specific cable created with network and not using the functionality of network over mains cable? Since there would be minimal data over this network part it does not need to be high speed (CAT 5 100Mbps) and so existing network over power cables is more that enough, surely?
@efixx2 жыл бұрын
Lots of reasons - the cables are often used to connect not just data but also current transformers.
@leogrande99773 жыл бұрын
Is there a test done on multicore SWA cables to see the effect of the electromagnetic forces on the SWA during short circuit? Is the SWA strong enough to hold the individual conductors within the multicore cable? I am looking forward to see a video of that test.
@tommymack32102 жыл бұрын
What do you think happens when you short circuit a 2.5mm cable? Or even a 6mm? No movement at all is what happens
