Coolest light show feature IMHO is where the tail light goes RED as you are descending, GREEN as you climbing....and WHITE as you are maintaining your current altitude. Very handing in night gliding to have "visual variometer" !!

Yep, that is an awesome feature. Also pretty slick how the lights will start to light up the whole plane the higher you go, and when you get past 400’ they start turning orange. LoL whoopsie! Thanks for bringing that up though Kevin I forgot to cover it in the video!

Dave, thanks so much for the awesome review! I would like to point out that we have firmware version 1.2.4 available. If you are running firmware 1.2.4, please do not change the endpoint throws on your transmitter. Version 1.2.4 introduced auto sensing of the signal range, so after you power up, simply roll your transmitter knob from low to high and the controller will automatically set the endpoints according to your signal.

a great suggestion is do a video of your own to install it and give extensive details for the install. Im sure if you did that it would be a great video!!!

@@DronemanJoeRc It doesn't really matter what order you do this. You can go ahead and bind up your radio and make sure everything is working there first, then install this. That way you know the radio link is working correctly before connecting any accessories. Your order is in the next batch to be shipped. All this attention has really swamped me, and I'm trying to keep up with the orders! LOL

Wow, what a great video. Thank you! Made installation a breeze. Hint; the light wire going to the back that has the choke on it, is the tail; the other is the fuse. Unfortunately my night Radian came with defective light strings in the vertical stabilizer and the right horizontal stabilizer. they light, but not correctly. Was hard to identify when I first got the model.

I got mine a few days ago and was waiting to get a positive response from Amainhobbies on my new Night Radian right wing light array not working out to the end of the wing. If they don't fix it for me I'll install it anyway and just adjust the lights to fit my needs. This is the best video for this install by the way. Just the facts and no fluff.

I finally got mine to work after 3 wingnut controllers and faulty led strips its running right. Brian at wingnut was awesome he stood by his product and HH sent me 2 sets of led's bc the first box was faulty and after about 40hrs of messing with this its finally working. I was about to give up. I also noticed that I saw more light displays with the stock controller than with the wingnut, correct me if im wrong and I got the latest firmware upgrade mod.

Yes the stock controller has more shows but it does not have nav lights with strobes and the ability to change in flight.

Thank You for compiling this instructional video. Followed your steps, works like a champ!! I do need to fix part of my left wing LED light string - there appears to be a disconnect about 2/3 of the way out. Not an issue with the controller as the same thing happens with with factory controller. Any suggestions on how to fix that are always appreciated.

I just ordered the Night Radian. When using the balance lead for the lights, I guess I won't be able to use my lipo buzzer? So I have to use Spektrum batteries? That's a bummer.

Just installed mine but it doesn't work. The Wingnut site says it doesn't work on BNF Night Radians without doing some programing. Apparently this requires a special cable and some software. Looks like you have the 631 receiver that comes on the BNF version. Did you have to do the programing?

Thanks for the vid Dave 👍 I’ve had the Wingnut controller for long time but haven’t fitted it because I I have the Flite Test Radian where you have to get a program cable and unlock a channel on the receiver that Horizon had disabled . Looks like with the new one you don’t have to do that.

I had to cut out a faulty LED pixel in the middle of my RH wing (brand new purchase) to get the display to work. While I was at it I reversed the nose strips so the LEDs faced outwards and not at the battery. Although I have not counted the number of displays yet it seems the std setup has more "shows" than the Wingnut some of which I will be sorry to see go.

I want to give some advice so you know what wire is the tail and what wire is the fuse. plug a battery in and pull each plug out and see what is which and label it with some tape so you know what plug is for the tail and fuse. just a helpful tip

Great video Dave. Was the extra channels on the reciever ready for use or did you have to program it so channel 5 would work. I don’t think my extra channels are “hot” so to speak. Thanks

On the Night Radian 2.0 I was able to use channel 5 just like Air Marshall. It is the gear channel. I assigned the control knob to channel 5. I did not have to do anything special. The Wingnut site mentions you might have to update your receiver and unlock it but I did not have to do that. Safe and the light controller work fine.

Dave, when I go to the monitor page and turn my knob the gear, Aux 2 & 3 all show motion. When I get to 100, my rudder kicks hard right. Any ideas?

Ok, for some reason, aux 2,3 were also assigned to the rotary knob. I turned them to inhibit. My lights still glitch so I plugger them into channel 6 of the receiver, which is good, and the lights all seem very happy. The rotor knob is assigned to AUX1 and works great. Go figure

But I could use some help also just bought the new night Radion I like your idea being able to control the lights with the transmitter so I bought that wingnut as well the number on it is 131 have everything hooked up lights come on blinking red blinking red have everything hooked up exactly the same way you did but the red lights are blinking I’m at a loss don’t know what to do it’s a shame nowadays you try to call somebody up and all you get is a machine I tried to get a hold of wingnut see what advice they would have and that’s not working out either also have the same receiver you have the local hobby shop how to program the failsafe in the receiver I’m sure they’re getting annoyed with me every time I have an issue with this plane going back to them maybe you have some advice thanks Steve

it took me 3 mods from wingnut to get mine to work, I emailed Brian at wingnut and he actually called me to walk me threw it bc of all this issues I was having. it seems to be working now, but I noticed that there are more light displays on the stock controller than you get with the wingnut and I also have the 131 version. I spent about 40hrs working on this and I was about to give up, but im just going to accept what its doing bc I like the idea of controlling it threw the trans.

It really doesn’t matter. It might actually be easier before you bind it since you have to rip out all the old stuff and connect the Wingnut controller to the receiver.

Bud help me out the system seems to be set up for Aux1 channel 6 bc gear 5 switch A is reserved for safe and as3x normally on most set up's so why did you choose channel 5 and not 6 aux1?

Only in rare instances are you truly locked into a specific channel for SAFE/AS3X mode selection. Like UMX planes, you’re pretty lock-in in there. Any plane with the AR636/637/631/630 you’ve always been able to assign SAFE Select to whatever channel you want. So I put SAFE Select on Switch B, assigned to channel Aux 2 to free up all the PWM outputs. This lets me assign whatever I want to the servo pins, like this light controller for example. And I still have Aux 1 available if I want to use that for something else.

Not completely, no. You can cycle through all the different modes, and one of those light modes is everything off, but the navigation lights with the strobe stay on all the time if you have them enabled.

I have spectrum dx8 gen 2 , i did everything you did with the stock receiver and channel 5 and i get zero output to the light controller > it has stumped my guys at lhs ! it works fine with ar610> with out safe i wrecked the night radian (pissed) > so gluing back together i still would like to know did you use night radian safe receiver ? did you do a foward programming to get channel five to work with the new light controller ? by the way ! plugged into channel 5 the light controller works but only manually !

Are you using one of the new Night Radians with the AR631 receiver? Or one of the Flite Test Night Radians with the AR636 Receiver?
