The test should have you go around the aircraft at a radius of 30m to detect any potential signal blind spots. specially with large scale planes with large gas motors.

Dave, your videos are very helpful and very thorough and clear. Thanks so much. There is something probably very simple that I just don't understand on dual rates. I have a Spectrum DX8, I typically use switch C for rates, which has three positions. On a fresh new model assigning switch C for rates, usually everything works as it should, meaning when the switch position is at the top it displays the curve for position zero, I move the switch to position one and it shows curve one, I move the switch to position two and it displays the curve for position two. Everything as it should be. But after I monkey with things a bit, sometimes, somehow it all gets scrambled. I don't seem to be able to unscramble it. Now, when I physically set the switch to position zero, for example, it displays curve 1 instead of curve 0. Said another way, the physical switch positions do not correlate correctly to curve zero, curve one, and curve two. Dave if you understand what I'm trying to say can you please help me understand this problem it's happened on several models. However, many other models I've set up with no problem. Thanks again, your work is much appreciated.

I have done the programming as you have laid out but I'm having second thoughts. I am a fairly advanced pilot but I am venturing into a jet. In the section of the flight engineers for switch selection I set it to standard as you indicated but does this have safe on all the time? I would like to have the same switch as you have indicated as all off in position one AS3X on in position two and safe and AS3X in position three. To me I think I should have loaded the safe select behavior from the Transmitter side of the Switch set up. What is your recommendation here?

I know this video is 4 years old now but, does making the special XT60I to IC3 cable do anything for you as far as the smart battery tech is concerned? Will this auto set itself if you add a spektrum smart battery using the special cable?

Your tutorial appears to only address use of an ACRO model (power plane). However, many of us fly sailplanes with Spektrum radios. If we create a SAILPLANE model with flaps, the Function List item called Flap System does not appear and apparently there is no default input (switch, stick) that will operate them. So there must be some way to specify the input and then the % and direction like in an ACRO model. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. jgiles

Hi Dave, I've searched your channel and many others for an answer to this question. I'm hoping your knowledge of the Spektrum system may have some insight. I've acquired a full-house 4m glider. It has separate ailerons and flaps. I'm trying to create and set up a SAILPLANE model in my NX8 Tx and have encountered something I can't figure out. If I create an ACRO model and designate 2-ail, 2-flaps, the Function List will now show an item called Flap System. In that item I can specify which switch or stick I want to activate the flaps. If I create a SAILPLANE model, there is not such Function List item and when I bring up the Monitor screen, there is no switch or stick that operates them by default? I have to be missing something? If you can I'd greatly appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Thank you! J Giles

Not expecting a response but at least I’ll try have my very first plane and I got it used and ESC was broken so I bought a new one the 40 amp E-flight. I’m using a spectrum DX6i. I tried doing this calibration technique and it doesn’t do that first series of beeps it does something a little different. I think it’s like three beeps and then a funny tune to these switches that say flap. Jyro or gear or F mode and so on are those all supposed to be set to zero or on one all the way forward all the way back I do have my trim set all the way down to -100% my throttle button is inhibited I don’t know what to do. Thank you,

I have a DXe and a AR637T. The servos travel in the correct direction and the rudder and ailerons gains are correct, but the elevator gain direction is opposite, i.e. if I pitch the nose down, the elevator should go up but instead it goes down. Reversing the orientation of the rx fixes this problem but then the same will happen with the ailerons and rudder. So far the only way I find to fix it is reversing the elevator channeñ and mount the servo arm the opposite way, though it wil interfere with the rudder servo arm. Is there any way I can fix this without a programmer and by using the trim or sticks menu in the DXe? The same happens using a DXs. Thanks!

So I had a TDR18 binded and working fine on one plane after doing the firmware update, then I switched over to another one, did all of the set up taxied the plane to fine tune the steering and next day nothing, blue light flashing as usual but no servo action Tried to register it and bind it again, took me forever and once finally binded still nothing on the servos Expensive servos that never let me down so it’s not 7 servos that all of sudden died but looks like the Rx got some issue. Also after disconnecting the Rx and trying to turn the TX off I get the message “Rx is still on “ That after 30 seconds being disconnected.. Any thoughts?

Hello, I realize this was posted 3 yrs ago, but hoping you may still monitor and/or respond to comments about it. I'm trying to configure a 2M RES sailplane using an NX8 Tx. My plane has a single, centered wing spoiler that is plugged into the Rudder receiver port. I have read, fiddled, read, fiddled, watched videos, etc.. so much my fiddler is sore. The Spektrum "Servo Setup / Travel" screen seems to be beyond my understanding. In watching your video, you demonstrate the example of adjusting travel for the Aileron "stick". You explain how to isolate the 2 display travel numbers in order to have different left/right values. You then proceed to scroll across the other channels and at 3:57 you go past the "gear" channel where only ONE of the numbers is highlighted? Something is different there, but you don't address it. You then proceed to the next setup item which is SubTrim. Sorry for this long comment, but my question is about what you didn't explain. I want to control my spoiler by a 3-position switch, not a stick, as you might with a gear servo. I can't for the life of me figure out the programming there so that I can select the right amount of spoiler up on the 1 & 2 switch settings (0 is all the way down). It's kind of making me crazy - it seems random but I know it can't be. If there's any way you could explain what Spektrum has in mind and how to configure the travel of a 3-position switch, I would be most grateful. Thank you for sharing!

Hello Dave: Thanks for these videos - I learned so much! Not sure if you still answer questions, but I have one... I am a beginner and use SAFE for takeoffs and landings. I discovered that with SAFE on, the throw of the elevator is greatly reduced - so much so that I am having trouble taking off [I am flying on floats]. If I turn SAFE off, the elevator has enough throw. I tried adjusting the priority in Spektrum programmer in the hopes that when I have the elevator at full stick the SAFE on elevator would not be active, but that didn't work. the throw is still reduced. What am i missing? Thanks, Paul

Could you mount it in a leveled airframe and then calibrate it? That way if the mounting spot in the aircraft is not level you would not have to add trim. I am currently mounting an AR636 in a foam airframe and the mounting surface is definitely level to the airframe. Unfortunately I don't have any other choice.

In the old day the throttle trim was mechanical and you could just go to full up trim to the bottom. Do you know of a way to make the electronic throttle trim move more quickly. Someone said you could make the trim essentially a three position switch. Do you know how or where to look? Thanks

Thanks but for some reason when I transfer the SRM file into my AR636A rx (done exactly the same way as you have demonstrated) it does not import the SMB settings as the flight mode switch makes no deference, nor does the panic button. I have reviewed the settings on the Safe Model Building tool and the settings are definitely there but when I import that file over to the Spectrum Program and load the new file into the rx I only get the settings that I set from the Spektrum Programme and not from the SMB tool. Help would be very appreciated.

Excellent video! I know this is an older post/video, but I think you may be able to help seeing it's related to telemetry and the NX8 transmitter. I'm having a problem using my NX8 transmitter with an Apprentice STS 1.5 and the Spektrum Remote ID. I'm trying to get the Spektrum Remote ID to show the data on the NX8. The Remote ID light is on, I went to telemetry on the NX8 and put in gps, scrowled to the gps screen, but there's no data showing up. What am I missing here? I would appreciate any help and suggestions!

Help please For some reason my ailerons (on a Y lead and selected as such on the Spectrum Programmer) works fine when I move the aileron stick but does not move at all for AS3X or SAFE functions/when I role the plane side to side. The elevator and rudder both work fine and move as they should. My gains and priority are set exactly like yours. The aileron servos even do the dance when the rx is turned on indicating that they are initialising. I cannot understand why the ailerons are not working as they should. Help would be very much apprecited.
