This is THE best interview of Nassim Taleb by far, she asked questions from all over his works, not from some quotes or references from the internet, and I think she has actually read his books which itself is skin in the game for conducting the interview.

People think he's an asshole because he sometimes snaps at interviewers. He just has no appetite for 'corrupted souls' - his bullshit antennae is always set to the highest sensitivity. He was at my company giving a talk on one of his books, an incredibly beautiful and generous person.

dilanka It comes down to how you use his ideas in your business and life. You have to remember that a fool with a tool is still a fool. One guy reads “Hero with thousand faces” and makes billions the other guy reads it and writes a short review on Amazon. Its all about how you process information from a big and how you go about putting into use. I have read Anrifragile 4 times and every single time I get something useful out of it that I can apply in my business and life. Which book took you to next level? I have made shit ton using his ideas so for me its been helpful.
@MosesMatsepane

I read it several times and recommended it to most of my peers. As straight forward as the book is to me, it tends to be a bit too technical and philosophical for most people. It's only ideal for personalities that are inclined to think like Taleb. Most people simply don't understand the INCERTO.

clear interview ? "If someone comes with an investment proposal that looks like an investment proposal and is well elaborated, don't invest because they're trying to take advantage of you". Seriously ? Maybe at some point Taleb did science or anything solid, but now he's just doing sensationalism.

@@PavlinMavrodiev that is nitpicking....focus on the big picture
@PavlinMavrodiev
@PavlinMavrodiev 5 жыл бұрын
@@micw8443 The big picture is that due to Taleb's arrogance and sensationalism, he has found it useful for his personal fame to continuously engage in disparaging broad-brush dismissal of whole branches of science. Coupled with his extreme ego claims that allegedly he has found a way to revolutionalize our societies, make him simply unbearable to me. I say this as someone who has met him, attended his lectures and dare say possesses the math skills needed to understand his math. Not that a lot of math skills are required for that, but it helps. His exposé is always the same. Start from a very narrow domain (financial trading), tell a few stories of clever trading strategies that basically constitute risk hedging, draw a few sloppy curves with unreadably small annotations, and .... and that's it actually. What follows is a broad over-generalization and speculation about all aspects of life sprinkled with academia bashing. Anyone heard of any practical examples for how to build/design/improve our current political, economic and social systems so that they are 'anti-fragile' ? Is that even possible or desirable at the most fundamental levels of existence ? Is life anti-fragile in its nature ? But Nassim is above pondering on useless philosophical questions. So we then get the S-shaped curves and the ceramic cup that doesn't like earthquakes, but how can we use this in 'real' life, except in the domain of financial trading ? Can we at all ? These are questions that a real thinker of our time would strive to answer.

Pavlin Mavrodiev Just because he doesn’t give a step-by-step guide on how to create more anti-fragile systems in our lives, doesn’t mean he can’t. That’s just WYSIWYG. The What You See Is What You Get fallacy. If anything, I feel that he already gave the big picture for how to create more anti-fragile systems; all it takes is some extrapolating to your own life. I’ve got skin in the game towards facilitating more anti-fragility in my life, so all I can say is, “all the information you need to take action is already there”.

My point should be obvious when you consider the lives of great men - most of them suffer in obscurity for decades until 'chance' finds them - this is true from Academia [Hume, Ramanujan] to art [DaVinci, Gauguin etc]. Me, I'd rather be lose with a chisel and marble but until I find the courage and|or means I must grind at my 9-5. Sure I could endure homelessness and 'pursue my passion' but I'd rather sleep indoors. Its not terrible but I know what he means by eating away at ones soul.

He says very clearly in his writing that he doesn’t write for people like you. He is disgusted by people who say things like “I’m sure his books have an editor” with no evidence or consequence for being wrong. The books don’t read well on purpose! It’s the message that’s important. Sorry you missed it.

He is actively giving examples from the medical world. It just seems to me, this guy has actually not observed the world in its entirety.
