I owned both the EFX and the black series helmets. I sold off my black series, not because I didn't like it, but because I only ordered that helmet when I thought my EFX order was cancelled, and I didn't think I could reorder at the time. But I gotta say this... For all the cheese helmets released in the last 4 decades, the public finally gets something very close to screen accurate for around $99 USD, and I find that simply amazing, even with the cheap paint job, they just slam dunked the industry with that helmet, play value off the charts! Hats off to Hasbro this time. For the price point, it can't be beat. You just made a shit ton of folks very happy! Don't like the paint job, repaint it yourself, don't like the ear piece, make another, at least you get your foot in the door at a more than reasonable price.

It's like these two goofballs forgot Rubies and Don Post were the last affordable helmets available to the general public. And they were complete trash; rubber construction, half t-visors, paint thst looked like silver sharpie. Hasbro Black Series is a godsend to the average, non rich, fan. Looks better than the old Don Post Deluxe fiberglass and Altmans fiberglass helmets... the only things better are EFX, MR, and non licensed custom helmets. Guess the high end guys not longer have a strangle hold on a decent helmet and it bothers them.

I know this is necroposting, but Im taking the bait anyways. Basically, the Black series is proportionally off by a lot; and also was made symmetrical, also it has a pretty bad paint job, so if I wanted a good helmet I would go efx, but then again I only have a black series, and honestly its near perfect to repaint as an rotj hero version, I could have someone 3d print a new ear; and buy an ople props visor, add some damage to the base, and then have an amazing helmet. Honestly, Black series is greag for repaints, for any version of the helmet, but is is still not as good as the high quality high price of the likes of custom builders like those on the dented helmet, mandomercs, or really any other group. Its not really to good, but yes for 100 and some work its great, but many of the customs are vasty siperjiszs
@jarrarwinks84702 жыл бұрын
Randomly found this comment while watching random videos, must say I give black series helmet a 8/10 for customization that is possible, I have model some new ears on my computer, repainted it to rotj mostly, and it’s such a great way to do it, for rotj or a cheaper helmet, especially customs(get the one with no dent though)this is the way, holy shit it cleans up so well.

I was expecting some really good close up shots of the helmets, showing the detailing of the metal parts, paint and scaring with maybe constructive criticism. What I got was 35 minutes of waffling and trash talk with some helmets on the table. I have a lot of respect for RS and what you guys do but come on, not everyone can afford £500+ for a prop replica and are proud of their £100 helmet. It’s come a long way from the Don Post or Rubies helmets and none of them were particularly cheap. I’m still waiting for you to offer an ESB Fett helmet as I don’t personally like the ROTJ paint scheme.

@anechoicchamber32374 жыл бұрын
I respect what you do at RS - the Hero I have is amazing, but you need to balance your opinions. You talk about lineage, but the Hasbro version is scanned from an original, so while Hasbro have stylised the original and made it symmetrical, and then compromised on the paint to make it possible at that price point, it does actually have some lineage, and is an amazing deal for the price point. Remember RS - you don't make anything original, you copy other people's work, then go on about being authentic. Love what you do but get some perspective.
@vaiman77774 жыл бұрын
Scanned is hardly lineage lol. That's like saying my laser scanned F1 tracks have lineage. I do agree with you you on perspective, all these helmets are just toys. The higher priced one's are just toys for men with more money... still standing in their bedrooms going 'pew pew pew'
@bikerscout74674 жыл бұрын
I think for the price point, the Black series is an amazing representation of the screen used helmet! Of course if you look up close, it doesn't compare as well with the higher end/custom made versions out there, but sitting at a resonable distance away, I honestly can't tell the difference at all! I generally don't tend to sit for hours on end staring at the paint job up close to my eye on these things or other collectables, so things like paint application are not usually a major issue! It is like watching the movie, even on high def, you can't make out that the visor on the actual prop is aysmmetrical. I don't think the harsh comparison is fair considering what the Black series helmet is going for. Since most fans don't have £500 to fork out on a helmet, I think the Black Series helmet for what it is and it's price, has to be really appreciated and commended! It's the first reasonably priced, screen accurate helmet available to Star Wars fans. That is a great thing!

I think it’s a matter of apples and oranges. You guys have the POV of screen accurate props. These helmets are not targeted to people who are trooping or looking for true screen accurate reproductions. Getting a proper fiberglass caster helmet costs as much or more than the EFX. Then the cost of supplies to paint yourself or have someone paint it for you. It should be rated as value for the price. Not accuracy for the price. Obviously the Hasbro one is a “toy” and some of the value is a detailed interior and electronics. Where as the EFX is in the better looking “paint” on the bucket, metal ears but no interior and not much better plastic used. Is the value worth the price difference? These can’t compare to a fiberglass bucket cast with lineage and a proper paint job. Those two things for collectors give increased value and with that a higher price.

I’m seeing this two years late as I wasn’t a Fett Head two years ago. I have both helmets and the EFX is hands down the better helmet in comparison. The paint job is spot on and the damage is pretty much the same say missing some cheek weathering, rabbit ears and added weathering on the dent, the “Nike swoosh” on the back left panel, the thumb print and smudge on the back red mandible, and smudge on killstripes. I added these details and used Testors Matte on it and it looks like it’s been painted and the improved the texture. You guys should try it … I know it’ll look and feel better. I’ve purchased a lineage from MF to paint up so I’ll have a better helmet once it’s completed however, the EFX (now that I’ve modified it) was a quick way to get approved. The one thing I hate on the EFX is the little seam in between the dome and upper red mandible.
@rogerchallender63524 жыл бұрын
I agree that a more expensive helmet does give you greater quality but is it really five times the quality? I would argue three times the quality. At least here in the US I don't see a $300 price point as something you can buy for the EFX helmet. And $120 US is a decent value for what you get for the Hasbro helmet. I do agree a $300 helmet at the EFX quality would be outstanding. Again as I have said you just can't get that cheap.

I bought the Black Series helmet. It is the "good enough" bucket for people who cannot justify spending three times more for a more accurate replica. You can't even touch a decent kit for less than US $200 unless you want to risk Etsy and some 3D printed pieces shipped from somewhere in Russia. The paint could be better on the Black Series, but...it's a mass-produced toy. It should be only about US $60, but Mandalorian armor is hot now, and the Mouse needs to be paid. If I paid US $300 for the EFX, I would feel ripped off. The thin plastic and general feel of the helmet does not reflect what I think I should get for the price. If I was really able to spend $300 on a helmet to sit on a shelf, I'd probably just get a Wasted Fett kit and paint it myself.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. This video is a comparison of two helmets that on paper should be comparable due to the materials used and manufacturing process. With the Black Series version, I wonder what the X shaped piece of plastic that's at the bottom of the visor is for. One of the first things I noticed when taking it out the box. I keep watching every review, but still no one's noticed it, or either I've overlooked that. I guess it's for keeping it stable during transit, but never saw a Fett helmet that had that piece. I still need to see if I can remove that from mine without damaging it. Such a strange thing indeed; cause I'm certain it's not cannon...like the interior details.

It's to splay the visor so it keeps the gab, bearing in mind they are shipped all over the world and temps. I respect RS Prop Masters for the items you guys offer. But its very very pricey. You guys offer high end pieces and it seems here you let it go to your head. Dont act all high and mighty and blow off lower end pieces as complete garbage. Since when has Hasbro offered a replica piece that has lineage? Never. This is brand new and a game changer for the toy end of the prop market. And ill be honest the paint looks the same quality on all 3 when looking at them on video. Hasbro mass produces theirs in a way to set the price at $119.00. Hand painted fiberglass ones are over $500. The hasbro can easily be repainted if one knows how and is inclined to. The EFX is like a $100,000 Accord, while the Hasbro is like a $25,000 Camry. The EFX has marginally better paint apps, the more accurately longer rangefinder, and the more accurate T-visor; but it's what's under the hood that majorly makes the difference for me. Unbiasedly, it's like comparing apples and oranges to me. There's "equal" pros and cons; and my discriminating taste prefers the Hasbro. But I totally can see many others preferring the EFX. Although totally illogical to consider either one not a beautiful work of art. Maybe the ppl that don't like them would prefer the Don Post or Rubie's deluxe versions lol. Those are two examples of non-toy Fett helmets for collectors on a budget.

You guys are reviewing these helmets through fogged lenses. You are professional prop makers. The Black Series helmet was designed and made as a “toy” helmet...given as a Birthday gift, a Holiday gift or whatever. Twenty years ago, as a costumer, this “toy” would have rocked and had been more than acceptable to troop in. And it’s a “toy”. Kids today are drooling over this helmet...for crying out loud, collectors are loving it. As for the EFX helmet...for a straight out of the box Boba Fett helmet...it’s gorgeous! I get what your saying about picking up a solid fiberglass screen accurate pull with solid lineage but you are going to pay a heavy price not to mention wait several lunar cycles to get it in hand and if it still needs to be painted. Don’t hold your breath. The inside? I don’t know any maker that decks out the interior. Would at least a liner have been nice? For sure, but it’s not a deal breaker. As a collector of props and prop making...if I had the money and time to wait for the “center piece” to my collection I’d be looking you guys up or connect with one of many very fine artisans on the RPF or TDH. I’m just saying, for where we are in 2021 in this highly evolved hobby these two helmets are really tight and worth every penny. IMO. Cheers!

You guys are spot on. I like what you said about the damaged box, as a collector I don't want to have to store a damaged box which I paid good money for. Too bad a lot of retailers don't understand that. As for the quality and price points, I totally agree. The price of the EFX is a massive rip off, especially in the UK. The Hasbro isn't so bad for what it is but again it is overpriced. I ordered two of the Hasbro and they were both badly damaged despite being unopened. They had huge scratch marks and dents all over from what looks like really poor handling during production. I've honestly never seen anything like it. I didn't expect such low standards from a company like Hasbro. Both are going back.

They're both very comprable. The EFX has the better paint apps, the more accurate narrower T-visor, and the more accurate longer rangefinder. The Hasbro has the texture, the better LEDs, the decked out interior, and a fraction of the cost. Even if they were the same cost, I'd go with Hasbro. Even though I'm not displaying the interior; just the fact that it's there elevates the premiumness. And it's certainly not a toy lol, neither one. But I definitely don't consider my '96 Don Post one a toy either; although that one looks like a money's asshole compared to either of these.
@Peacefrog354 жыл бұрын
The LEDs better in black series? Do you mean you prefer those more? The LEDs in the EFX are more screen accurate.
@Chalor.4 жыл бұрын
@@Peacefrog35 No, I literally mean what I say. But then last week I was informed that the faster blinking lights like the EFX one are actually more accurate. So even though we don't get to see that in the movie, I'll take their word the rangefinder lights worked like that. So now, I have to retract what I say; and yes, you're right...I just prefer the Black Series one blinking slower. Something I was thinking about the other day is how no company I know of has made a ROTJ replica helmet. With Hasbro making a prototype version, surely we'll get a Jedi one at some point. They'll definitely need to produce an entirely new bottom half. I'd certainly snatch it up, despite preferring everything more with the Empire costume and weapons.

@@Peacefrog35 Okay, so I now remember the time I saw the rangefinder lights blink on an official Fett costume. It was the '78 screen test footage. So comparing the two to that, Hasbro's more accurate. Albeit a bit too fast, but closer to what was shown. Which I'd think the light pattern would be the same on the screen used helmet (the rangefinder just transfered over to the Empire helmet), but maybe not?

There's a difference between cheep and afordable. The black series boba helmet is afordable but it's not made out of cheap materials. Its a pretty sturdy helmet with electronic functions and deco inside the helmet. Paint job is a direct scan from the origional prop. It's not exact but it doese its job pretty well. They allso have a blank white prototype helmet if you wanted to paint it yourself. All in all for the price this thing goese for I'd say is more than worth it. Not every body is willing or even has athousand dollars to spend on a boba helmet. Truthfully i think you two are a bit snoty and cockey. What's really horrible is your lighting and camera.

I really appreciated this video. As a prop maker in a different genre I fully understand where you were coming from. Currently on my shelf is an RS Hero Stormtrooper helmet, an EFX PCR Vader helmet, an Anovos Kylo Ren and a Black Series Mandalorian that I modified. I would love to get one of the RS Bobas but last I checked they are sold out aka, not in production. I ended up getting the EFX simply because it at least has SOME lineage to the original. A minor amount I am sure but it is at least there. I wanted something more than a toy and the EFX fits the bill. The Black Series helmet I simply wouldn't respect. To explain... If down the road I didn't want it anymore I would either give it away or toss it out. I literally just gave away my Black Series First Order Stormtrooper helmet. The EFX Vader isn't my favorite piece but it is worth more than giving it away or tossing it. One thing I do like about EFX's PCR pieces is they are worth more than Black Series as well as being more accurate... but I don't worry about damaging them. If I had a custom painted Boba or a fiberglass Vader helmet I would always be cautious when handling them. My Vader helmet I have let my daughter put on and goof around in. But it still makes a great display piece. It all depends on what kind of collector you are. I am a casual Star Wars collector. Maybe someday that will change but for now I am happy with what I have. If I upgrade the Vader or Boba... there is a decent market for the EFX stuff even if it is the PCR line.

I'm really sad that I missed out on the Boba helmet run this time. I 100% would have done everything I could have to get my hands on one of these from RS. They're amazing. I can only hope they do it again in another couple years.
@rjallen703 жыл бұрын
The people who collect the black series helmet also collect Funko pops and action figures. I would argue that that helmet is more accurate than either one of those. They're collecting a property. It's the license that makes it collectible.

Lost a bit of respect for these guys. Seriously..they're comparing apples with oranges..bagging on the BS lid...it's a toy, a very affordable toy for people who always wanted one and didn't want to pay a high end price. Really disappointing attitude, expected more from these guys.
@historex54tamiya4 жыл бұрын
I do think the black series Boba is ok for a stand off piece, and let's face it the money we save, I personally spend with RS. It's not that bad and a win win rather than the days when we spent a fortune in a cast and would have cost £100 in paint and upgrades

Wondering what's up with the loud beeping. I've just never come across a collectible video where they *_beeped_* out certain words. Like, this was originally on network TV. Plus, the many commercials. Never come across that either with any of the hundreds of reviewers I've watched. I'm leaving so many comments cause this is such a fascinating and perplexing video.

What a couple of pricks, don’t forget to say “do you want to see my helmet” a few more times, the black series is £100, it’s great for the price, I’ve collected some great fett helmets over the years, spending thousands and think for the price it’s fine...it’s not really aimed at serious collectors.

Im a serious collector and i have the BS version to represent Boba in my collection. Not everyone can afford to spend thousands on every piece in the collection. My thousands spent go towards Vader as I prefer him. My point Is the BS works even as for Hard Core collector such as my self.

I was so blown away by the Black Series version, I ordered Vader. And that Vader one is an amazing three piece, all the details, bells and whistles helmet, _especially_ for the price. No other replica has recreated all of that. And I'm saying all this as a middle-aged, old school Star Wars collector/artist...that's super picky. Definitely, they could've giving it more of a neck, and gave it the two-tone look on the mask; but it's still stupendous. To say it's horrible is extremely asinine. Really not trying to be rude, it's just a ridiculous adjective to use for that piece.
@niersebastian24424 жыл бұрын
To be real,the Hasbro is the only accurate Vader Helmet on market.All others are David Prowse Masks.In the first two films you dont see the cut between the upper and lower peace of the mask,so it is unrealistic:).Hasbro did a vader helmet between return of the jedi and the revenge of the sith.And i want the dark lord in all black,and not the gun metal grey oh there is a camera and the light could be bad anakin.
@jeremydrew12273 жыл бұрын
To be honest the overall sculpt on the BS Vader is extremely stylized. Its absolutely nothing like its screen counterpart as its still under 1:1 and the proportions are all wrong. The reveal detail also has been compromised as well. There are fan made versions of the reveal that are much more accurate but they do cost triple the price. The value to detail ratio on the BS is very good but the overall look killed it for me.
@Chalor.4 жыл бұрын
lol, I really can't tell if you guys are putting on a show; as in playing sarcasm seriously. I just get a kick out of you calling the Hasbro helmet a toy lol. I would've paid $200+ for it. Coming in at $119.99 is a steal. And we all know this ain't for kids. But if it's a toy, then the EFX is even more of a toy; with the interior not matching the Star Wars visual dictionary. I could see you doing a video with some Threezero, Hot Toys, Blitzway, etc. figures; calling them dolls and saying they're not worth more than 15 quid. So I know you consider your custom helmet to be the best one; so I'm really curious with what collectibles produced by a company you'd consider super high quality. Your commentary is so peculiar, akin to Anthonys Customs. I'll have to check out more of your videos.

Lmao. These guys never have anything good to say of other currently active company’s SW helmets. EFX has made BY FAR the best most accurate boba fett helmet ever produced. You guys are completely biased due to the fact that 2 years ago RS planned on making a BF helmet of their own. Complaining about the box it comes in, the inside of the helmet being bare, it being labeled “not a toy”; sly, sarcastic comments towards EFX. This isn’t supposed to be worn, but is supposed to be displayed. The inside of the helmet shouldn’t be an issue. This item being mass produced shouldn’t be an issue if the accuracy is there. This is the only video on KZbin complaining about this EFX helmet lol. Not one positive word from you guys towards this helmet without sarcasm. I’m tired of your biased videos. Get a license from Lucas Film/ Disney. Then talk.
