I have the PowerPro battery installed. Flexboss going up later today along the Gridboss. I've hired an Electrician to wire the grid and breaker panels but I'm wiring the battery to Flexboss and Flexboss to Gridboss.. Love to see some install videos as this is my first installation of this type.

The unit is very new and hasn’t proven itself yet. It better to see it up and running with hours to prove it worth buying. Just like anything new with all modifications and needs to run for a while to get all the bugs fixed

@@bearupfarm1818 I agree. I’ve talked to EG4 about how much testing they’ve put this through also. And it’s built on the 18kpv architecture so I don’t foresee it having any significant issues.

I just received my FlexBOSS 21 yesterday and the GridBOSS the day before. I'll be mounting them soon inside my big shop as well as the 40 410 watt panels. Hooking them up to 3 battery (300 amp hour) banks for a total of 900 amp hours! I'll add a 4th soon. I'll also hook up the 15 Kilowatt generator I have. Also, will be hooking up the new style chargeverter GC when needed.I love this stuff! ;-) Keep rockin' down there in Texas... maybe I'll join you some day! 🤓

I agree the Flexboss seems like a good alternative to the 18kPV. It will be nice once they add a screen option, I prefer having a screen backup along w/ the app. It is curious that the MPPT efficiency from PV to battery and PV to grid is less efficient than the 18kPV though?

Added as a sub so I can hear your take on the GridBoss. Looking at the EG4 site online that unit looks to be PERFECT for a hybrid setup that tries to be mostly off grid. As you might guess from my user name, I have to plan for a little bit more wintery weather than you and @WillProwse do, so being able to add more panels is ALWAYS a good thing!
@unpluggedtexan5 күн бұрын
Yeah you nailed it. The gridboss is made for people like us who have the grid as our backup only and want to remain offgrid as much as possible.
@michiganengineer86215 күн бұрын
@@unpluggedtexan Herself would prefer to be completely off grid, although she still wants gas for cooking (go figure). Just noodling a bit and (assuming I played the right numbers) a pair of the Boss21's with maxed out solar and battery for each with a Gridboss, being fed by the two FB21's, plus rooftop via micro's, big generator and the grid would probably be around $100k (plus install). Like I said a wet dream IF I play the right numbers LMAO
@unpluggedtexan5 күн бұрын
@ yeah that would be an enormous system. But getting one gridboss and flexboss with 30 kwh’s of battery storage and solar panels would get you not reliant on the grid much, and you can always expand as your budget allows.

@@michiganengineer8621 If you have natgas/methane coming to your house, I'd keep that. Electiric for heating/cooking can chew through battery. If you are on propane, still may be worth keeping that for heat/cooking.
@michiganengineer86213 күн бұрын
@@roslynandbobchauvin2378 Oh we'll be keeping gas, even in our "win the lottery build". Probably a big, buried propane pig primarily for cooking, but also for a genset since we likely wouldn't need a monster sized one. Heating (inc. hot water) and cooling will be geothermal heat-pump.

Another great review. Thanks for all the information. I was going to do the 18Kpv, but now I'm going to install the BOSSes. My Grid and Flex are going to be separated quite a bit. The batteries will be near the Flex. I understand there's only one cable that needs to go between the Flex and Grid. Will you cover that in your review of the combo setup?
@copisetic11045 күн бұрын
I don’t sell back to the grid, does it have sine wave matching from the grid so it will bleed power in as needed to supplement power supply if needed.

@@copisetic1104 yes. It will operate just like the 18k Pv where the grid will assist when needed without issue.

Thanks for the review. I am curious if the application can work only using wifi, i.e., no internet connection. In a regional grid down scenario, this would be a concern since there is no longer a display. I am looking forward to your schematic, especially since your prior video discussed placing an inverter bypass switch in place for system maintenance. I believe this would perform that function.

Thoughts on if theres room to install a din rail and a Tigo RSS transmitter inside the flexboss for a rooftop installation? Also, i see the manual recommends a PV disconnect but whats that knob on the side then? Would you recommend an external disconnect?

@@simon359 only specific EG4 inverters (18k PV, 12k PV, and Flexboss) at this point. There has to be closed loop communication between the inverters and gridboss. Maybe they’ll add other brand inverters down the road, but I doubt they will. Just my opinion though.

My house has two smart meters. One for two geothermal units. The other is for the rest of the house. Anyway a FlexBoss/GridBoss combo can take some of the load off both 200amp panels as needed?
@unpluggedtexan5 күн бұрын
I wouldn't try and feed 2 different 200 amp panels from one gridboss/flexboss. I would rather put two separate systems in. That being said, you could put a 50amp breaker inside the one 200amp panel that the Gridboss/flexboss is feeding, that 50amp breaker can feed another 50amp breaker inside your other 200amp panel. Then that 200amp panel would have access to share power from your system. You would need a lockout switch to make sure both the grid and the gridboss/flexboss aren't feeding power at the same time. Those are the two ways I would do it. But disclaimer, I'm not a licensed electrician, so it would be best to get their opinion on that.
@justlikeyouful5 күн бұрын
@unpluggedtexan Sounds reasonable. The thing I would need to avoid is back feeding the grid during a power outage if I setup something too complex. I'm going to hit up some DIY forums and then ultimately a licensed electrician once I have a rough idea of possible configuration scenarios.
