One thing French players need to look at as they get more comfortable with the Royal Institute....is the pace of their tier 3 tech. What I'm seeing is that they will often rush the RI as fast as the guild hall...but then they have no resources to pick up the unique upgrades. I feel like the French player has to commit to their tech path. Its better to use fewer villagers for the tech up (even though that might cost you some relic control), and have those villagers on gold so that once you hit age 3 you are getting the upgrades very quickly. Ultimately the goal of the RI is to end the game in Castle....which means that relics are not as major a factor as they would be in a long game, so I think a slower tech up is absolutely worth it to actually have the ability to get those upgrades out when the building finishes.
