Unbelievable piece of footage of Pieter Steph at half time. You can see him sitting there and the moment he just thinks to himself, 'F*ck This! Not on my watch!' and starts speaking. The other thing is that scrum where Ox annihilates Sinckler, you see the hit, and then the Bar Fridge gets plugged in and the power comes on. Unbelievable. That dude could shift the planet out of its orbit if he's not careful.

There was not a dry eye in South Africa for anyone who watched Episode 4 of Chasing The Sun... Bongi had grown men crying. That was real, authentic emotion which epitomized what every human being goes through in life... And as a South African, I had no idea what the Springboks had gone through for us ... And that goes for every person who plays for a dream or even just goes out to try to make it through the day

Bongi's tears, Coach Jacques sitting and talking him through it and the bear hug Oom Rassie gave him at the end says everything there is to know about the team culture. They can be brutally honest with each other, they expected to check their egos at the door and put the team first and they can be vulnerable too. PSDT said it best [translated as] "We're all scared, if you're scared, say so and we'll make a plan."

One thing that I picked up in this episode is that in the TV coverage, they don't film the scrums properly. The close-up video of the scrum training from Chasing the Sun really gets across the raw power of the scrum. From the sound at the hit to the clash of the unstoppable force and immovable object - the grass tearing, the sheer pressure on the front rows. I reckon with some small innovation to how scrums are filmed in live games they could easily make this one of the most interesting parts of the game.

I am watching this Doccie with my now 12 year Rugby playing son. We are South Africans. And I cant help to drill it to him, that if he ever has an opportunity to play for the Springboks, I want him to know on whose shoulders he stands and shoes he fills. The honour and respect those boys brought to our Country by not only by how they played, but how they conducted themselves in and outside the field. The pride in us as a country our Ubuntu this Team represents well. I am so proud of them. I have goosebumps. I am so happy and appreciate this Doccie, the depth it brings on the stories behind the victories and defeats. We didn't know the internal battles they were fighting to give us this hope. Thank you Springboks. Everytime i am tempted to be discouraged about life's difficulties and want to give up, I think of them, their sacrifice and thinking about us, when tough times came. Wow. Also, my son is a big fan of yours. Hope you experience only good of what our country has to offer when you come. Thanks for the love and respect you've shown us South Africans. You are so genuine and authentic. We appreciate your content since the Rugby World Cup. Oh I agree about Owen Farrell. May your channel continue to grow.

Excellent work! I am rather humbled that you appreciate what rugby really means to South Africa, because it is really bigger than any individual. The difference in the townships, where you see kids aspiring to be the next Siya. It’s a magical game and it suits the magical country of South Africa. It’s the very glue that keeps us together, and it prevents us from falling apart. Rugby is a game for everyone, any size, shape, length or colour! It has no language, only spirit. A spirit that we express in our daily lives and as a collective. I would like to pinch my favourite Shakespeare line, but instead of “ if music be the food of love - play on “ If rugby be the food of love and Ubuntu - play on and on and on! Viva amabokkebokke!!!!

Just a minor clarification: “Rip the *kak* out of them”, I think is what Rassie said. That is the Afrikaans word for “sh!t” - but can also refer to someone who has been full of sh!t - and Rassie now wants them (the players) to now pull that out of them. Have been looking forward to eqch episode of your review. Been brilliant so far, and also sad that we only have a single episode left. Cannot wait for you to experience South Africa a bit later this year! 👊🏻👊🏻

Salads don't win scrums!! Ox is the man, wow! Watching Pieter Steph's talk in the changing room was touching, the quiet one telling the team what they needed to hear. Bongi crying made me cry...so much weight was on his shoulders. We joke in SA that Springboks tackle bulls on the farms for fun lol. You are going to love the Craven week, maybe I will catch you at the Loftus Ireland game, I'll be there. Job well done again!! I really think you are onto something with the Rassie quotes book! On Owen Farell(apologies for being blatantly honest) is that I lost respect when he was so arrogant on accepting the 2nd place medal in 2019, that to me showed zero sportsmanship. But I was really impressed at the growth I saw with his interviews in 2023, he seems incredibly humble and a great sportsman, so I can give him that!

"Almal is fokken bang, as jy bang is sê. Ons maak 'n fokken plan" 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The language is so simple, but the Afrikaans has a much stonger meaning than any direct English translation can explain. My best effort... We are all scared here, admit it to yourself and then lets make a plan to fking fix this mess.

I agree with your view that this is a special rugby series. This team should be given the task of making a series like this for the next workd cup but with all the teams. They have shown they know how to sell the rugby story like non other. Honestly not a Farrell fan but it's because one of his high tackles cost us the services of one of our bok flyhalves. What was good though was showing how England were growing in confidence as the game proceeds. The combative England is clearly visible, palpable even. The back story of Ox is also the contest between football and rugby for the youth. Bear in mind Rugby was the Afrikaaner nationalists sport focus. Football has always been the focus of the rest of the population, but the World Cup victories from 1995 onwards have gradually won universal support across the country. The racially integrated team where they are genuinely close and not just window dressing. These things matter here. A rural guy in the freestate province to is is a statement of how deeply the rugby heros reach is into the psyche of our country.

Again, this is an awesome insightful review. Something Rassie point blank said in the first season of CTS: sometimes he doesn't have all the answers so he needs everyone to pitch in with ideas and taking the lead. So its great that you picked up on that. I definitely agree with you about OF, all the tackling issues aside, its a pity noone really know him as a person and he isnt as accessible in that way. It's a PR oversight imo. I've seen the English media and public tearing him apart on a personal level, and it's sad. With our boys, we get to see who they are, whats important to them, their struggles etc, so we a lot more forgiving when they don't perform sometimes and will go "toe-to'toe" with any other team's supporters that bashes them because its as if we know them. As much as they care about their country, their country cares about them.

Farrel was on absolute fire in this game, Steward was brilliant in the air and the way the England team pinned us in our half and bullied us physically spooked the Boks like I've never seen. After PSDT's speech it galvanized the boys and the subs made an impact. The belief returned, the scrum set a platform to spring off of. Pollard's experience and ice in his veins won us this game at the expense of the English. I really felt for them, after all the heartbreak they've had over the years this was the closest to the perfect game against us. The combined coaching effort of the Boks resulted in the right choices at critical times which in the end was the difference. Bongi sitting alone in the changeroom was powerful and later being hugged by Rassie was a massive moment in the whole series. A few people already believe he is the new captain, it's possible as he is based locally, he has captained us a few times so it could just be a matter of formality. As Rassie says the captaincy isn't very important, we have many leaders in this team. Siya is still massive for this team and SA but so are the other senior players. I do feel that Rassie downplays Siya's importance to bring out the best in him though. Will be fascinating to see how things play out in the much anticipated Ireland series! Thanks again for quality content, I know a lot of Saffas that don't have access to DSTV appreciate your breakdown of episodes that they are not yet able to watch. Cheers!

Tim you are such a legend and we love , value and respect you much in South Africa as a fair , honest , insightful and passionate rugby lover . In a previous comment after the final , I suggested that you really spoil your wife the next few years to ensure she gives you a “ pink pass “ for next RWC. Thank you …Thank you .

Hi Tim, When you come to South Africa do yourself a favour: try to go on a tour of the battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu war with a proper guide like Rob Caskie. The stories are deeply compelling and the landscapes are unspoiled and spectacular. See you at the game in Durban!

Tim, go see the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria too, the Vroue Monument (Women's Memorial) in Bloemfontein too, supposing you have Mandela's Statue at the Union Buildings and the Apartheid Museum pencilled in already? No, we'll understand, you will not have time for all this on two trips. Book more trips! Even if it takes 8 different airlines! 😊

I just watched the episode and then immediately jumped on your review. What an episode! That QF was just insane! High octane, brutal and action packed. I loved the fact that they focused on the scrums so much. The scrum training footage was a visceral experience. These men go hard! I find it ironic that England used SA's much-criticized 2019 tactics against them and had a lot of success. Ox Nche is a special scrummager. He just dominated when he came on! That scene with Bongi at the end brought tears to my eyes. Bongi is one of the toughest players in the Bok camp and to see him breaking down is so powerful. He was under enormous pressure. Thanks for the review, Tim!

Great episode as always Time. I'm a saffa and I see Owen Farrell like I do Bakkies Botha. I hate when we play against him but I know if he was playing for the boks I would have loved him.

Thanks to your wonderful summaries of each episode, I finally decided to figure out where to watch it and have found it every bit as inspiring as you have said it is. The final scene of Bongi in the changeroom was quite incredible. The series has managed to capture those small moments of raw emotion so well. Really love your content. I heard you make mention of a possuble visit to a game reserve while you are here. Please be sure not to miss out on that. I am sure you will love it. Would recommend Sabi Sands as a great place to get the best possible game viewing in the limited time you will probably have available.

Mate I am so grateful for you as an individual and gentlemen. As well as Alfred R, you both have such a balanced assessment which is not easy to find, especially as a born South African (I have lived in the uk for nearly half my life over two decades, and my grandfather fought in the First World War), so I am first a springbok, but 100% England too unless against the boks. Your channel and your critical analysis is welcome and refreshing!!

Another great review. I’m a South African living abroad. Was fortunate enough to attend the World Cup and love to see your international perspective on the series and the springboks. Thanks for showing the boks and series the respect it deserves. Unfortunately the springboks back to back World Cup win hasn’t been as well received by many in the northern hemisphere

If you are keen, I can share a contact to help you along with a booking? Maybe give a recommendation or so, myself?

I think something we dont give enough credit to, is how England used our own tactics against us. They were incredible this game especially after being written off by everyone. England and New Zealand have been our biggest competitors in World Cups, and both teams really pushed us to the limit this last WC

Ok, well, I love the Boks, but this documentary posibly makes everybody love them. Not only the hard men we South Africans are as players, but it shows the humanity in us. A view the world never see of us as people. It shows our struggles and how we always rise pass it. It's shows we are just not thick bown heads, but we can do our homework and out smart the world in work effics. Chasing the Sun 2 really shows the world way we can be proud of being South African. We hold great human values, fact ❤
