Kerry knew about the format of the 'Fame Game' part of the show which usually started with the birth and death dates of the person in the question, so he learned those dates for a wide range of historical people and was therefore able to answer long before the other contestants. Daphne picked up this tactic and did the same so that on her return to Australia she was also able to do the same. She used the same tactic when she appeared on 'Going for Gold' in the UK where she won a trip to the Olympics. You might also notice that they both 'buzz' much earlier than the other contestants as they know that the question master is about to add the most relevant fact that usually gives away the answer. It's a skill you can learn when you do a lot of quizzing apparently.

I’d forgotten what a natural, funny (and beautiful) lady Alyce Platt was/is. I was only a kid in the 80s, too young to be very interested in women, but I thought she was wonderful. As a much older chap now, I still appreciate her down-to-earth nature, as well as the qualities I wasn’t so interested in way back then!

They have to anticipate every question.

Yes, Daphne competed in the first two World Championship Series in 1987 and 1988, respectively. She discusses her experiences there on her official website.

I'd like to know how exactly they got that Holden Piazza there. I didn't think it would fit in that little piece there in the middle of the set.

Interesting how they had the car in front of the doors at the end of the show (not something you'd really see in regular episodes)

Both Cary Young and David Bock would go on to win "Sale of the Century World Championships" (Young won in 1987 and Bock won in 1988; Young also won the Masters tournament in 1990).

David had Spider's in his pocket when it came to opting to buy in the gift shop and in the 1998 Masters showdown and the 2001 masters david still passed buying in the gift shop.

I could be wrong, but I think Barry Lee, who Tony was just talking about was 1 of the 1st champions of 1986. Unless he blew it all on the final night.

Those guys didn't even let him get the questions out before they buzzed in - made it very hard to watch and actually get involved with the quiz... much prefer the British version of this show.

My maths teacher in New Zealand was banned from all Quiz shows. Mr "McNamara was so successful the British/commonwealth quiz circuit banned him. At least he is a multi millionaire from these shows, but sad he got banned like a card counter in Vegas for being too intelligent. He woulda eaten these players alive.

Ok, I want to say a couple of things. First, these players got some itchy trigger fingers. Especially buzzing in with very little information to the questions. Second, why didnt they make the instant bargain prices all the same at 6,9 & 16. They could have mixed up the prices for the tournament. Lastly, did u noticed that Stevie Wonder for 2 of the 3 nights had the money card behind him & nobody chose him. Why is that?......But overall it was a great tournament & great post by criticalmass999.

He might have stopped the clock during his run, we just haven't seen it yet. Besides, it's important for the host to make sure an answer is acceptable or in time. Also, one thing Jim never did during his version was give the correct answer immediately after a wrong guess by a contestant. He gave the missed answers at the end, or not at all if there was a big win.

Tubewings true he didn't do that but he went back to check after the time was up in the speed round, but they tell him if they got it in on time anyway by adjusting the score correctly so he didn't have to do that
