So she was not the highest scoring contestant, i believe the Scottish Minister Bill Mckaig beat her score in 1999 as he scored 433 with his three lives also still in tact. Well done Daphne all the same!

Eggheads' Daphne Fowler - Sale of the Century - 1983 0445am 29.6.23 as regional tv is sadly nigh on defunkt i wondered if Anglia tv is 1: still in existence 2: still got it's tin foil knight on horseback? yeah, i know it's not a tin foil sculpture per se but it used to make me laugh when i was a child to see such a thing ie: a tin foil knight atop a potters wheel rotating.. ummmm. ok i had a childhood invested with lack.... i aint from east anglia so aint been able to sample tin foil life.

This was just so much fun. Cary Young and David were my 2 favourite players in the history of Sale of The Century and this episode showed exactly why. Cary's skill at answering the Who am I questions just from dates of brith and death was exceptional. Sometimes he'd have to wait for the first clue because he knew more than one answer to the given dates.

Jim said they filmed 2 shows in a day. After 5 darts in the end game the contestants had 94 so the producer halted the filming. Jim said the Star Prize was a 3 piece suite abandoned not suitable for a contestant in a wheelchair. As first show they swapped the Star Prize from the second show. Jim explained to the audience they stopped for a tech problem. Player threw final dart and won the Star Prize - Skiing holiday - oops!

My maths teacher in New Zealand was banned from all Quiz shows. Mr "McNamara was so successful the British/commonwealth quiz circuit banned him. At least he is a multi millionaire from these shows, but sad he got banned like a card counter in Vegas for being too intelligent. He woulda eaten these players alive.

Those guys didn't even let him get the questions out before they buzzed in - made it very hard to watch and actually get involved with the quiz... much prefer the British version of this show.

Eggheads' Daphne Fowler - Sale of the Century - 1983 0502am 29.6.23 is she still featured on eggheads? i wouldn't know as i only see it fleetingly these days. i know ch5 and the BBc seem to be airing the show now - which is odd. and the team is gradually morphing into a completely different set-up. i think big chris is still there... as for daphne i think the only show she didnt feature on is bullseye... p.s oh she has - errr featured on bullseye. strange... maybe she missed out on win lose or draw???

I wonder if not getting the star prize stayed with her like Gallipoli did with Churchill, and made her want to always win at further game shows? Although, i think £300+, a bendy bully, a tankard and a set a darts is a great prize in itself tbh!

It's funny really, it was later revealed that the producer of the show had a deal with a speed boat supplier. If the contestants didn't win they would roll out a car, but if they did win they would roll out a speed boat instead. Daphne said later that this revelation did make the loss a bit more bearable but it also gave her the desire to work harder and win the next show she went on - Sale of the Century where she absolutely cleaned up in a big way. Her appearance on the British version of SotC also led to her being asked to go to Australia twice to play it over there for much better prizes.

It used to be good when Link/Getting On, Farming Outlook, Weekend World, University Challenge, The Muppet Show (in ATV days), Sale Of The Century later Bullseye,, Winner Takes All, and The South Bank Show were all on ITV on Sunday's.
